pro jared's lets play is honestly the best lets play i seen of this so far because he takes everything so seriously and was entirely blind except [sp]the knowledge of a twist, not knowing what the twist was though. watching him is like watching a unexpecting passenger in a roller coaster descending into hell.[/sp]

I've watched pretty much every mainstream YouTube take a stab at the game and so far I think Game Grumps are my favorite. Mostly because [sp]Dan is an innocent bean who needs to be protected at all costs and the game just fucks his shit up[/sp].
oh dear fucking god i only knew about [sp]the suicide[/sp] before watching a stream of this game
what the fucking fuck i did not expect any of this

i mean, i'm loving it, i love [sp]creepypasta[/sp] shit and this game has it just right

I've only seen the Game Grumps and Markiplier's playthroughs. I liked the Grumps playthrough better, mostly because [sp]Danny's spiteful declaration of hate towards Monika when Arin immediately went to delete her was cathartic[/sp]. I mean, at first I was a bit shocked and disappointed that [sp]they deleted her so quickly without even letting her finish her initial dialogue, let alone let her do one of her random dialogues[/sp] but considering how worn out they both were at that point I changed my mind and feel kinda guilty for being disappointed. That, and the fact that [sp]with Monika outright telling the player how to delete her[/sp], it shouldn't have been surprising that they'd up and do it.

The best part about people thinking [sp]the suicide is the twist[/sp], is that that's not even the big twist.
Nothing surprised me THAT much, somebody posted something that implied a [sp]suicide[/sp] in DDLC in LMAO pics, and it was really clear that it would be [sp]Sayori,
I actually expected to see her hang the first time we went to her room[/sp]. Monika's poems made it pretty obvious that [sp]she was self aware[/sp] from the very first poem iirc. I even knew in advance that they'd go the [sp]"glitchy" route [/sp] from a joke somebody said in LMAO pics too. Basically what I'm saying is that whichever one of you keeps making spoilery DDLC jokes in LMAO pics should shut the hell up
The [sp]sayori event was pretty easily telegraphed imo considering the atmosphere surrounding it and events leading up to it. You even get a door cutscene. I had to block my eyes before entering the door cause i really didnt want to see her hanging like that[/sp]
[sp]The first time you go to her house and have that build up opening her door had me on the edge of my seat. The second time, I kind of saw it coming. It was still pretty freaky though.[/sp]

I believe [sp]the first time you go to her they make that buildup as a red herring, to make you less prepared the second time around.[/sp]

As soon as I got the poem [sp]from Sayori about the bottles I pretty much knew at that point she was dealing with at least some form of depression[/sp].
Once [sp]she started distancing and isolating herself from the group I was pretty suspicious. After the whole "I wish I could just disappear" part I pretty much knew at that point that she was going to kill herself just because it was coupled with how much of a cunt the protagonist was being to her. Actually made me physically cringe reading "I know what's best for you" come from his lips multiple times.[/sp]
I knew [sp]Sayori was going to hang herself[/sp] the second [sp]I denied her declaration of love. I was wondering what the big twist was and thought it was, for those few short minutes, that every route ends in a different horrid outcome, such as a scenario where accepting Sayori's feelings will cause Yuri to go mad or something, but everything from act 2 on I could have never predicted.[/sp]
my favorite playthrough has to be SuperGreatFriend's mostly because for most of the game he gives the protagonist a really shitty boston accent
[sp]and then when shit gets real he's too enthralled in what's happening to remember to keep it up[/sp]
[sp]Seeing the suicide coming didn't lessen the impact any less for me. I was shattered[/sp]
it was pretty difficult to avoid seeing it before i played tbh because that shit was everywhere. it was essentially pressure for me to play so i dont get spoiled even more.
I was very lucky to get the game recommended to be back in October when it came out. The fanbase has gotten noticeably worse at not spoiling things over time as opposed to when I played.
[sp]Seeing the suicide coming didn't lessen the impact any less for me. I was shattered[/sp]
I knew it was coming because I saw some Blend-S meme of it before I played the game, but damn I still got chills when that happened.
[sp]his avatar is a glitching monika, antagonist instantly spoiled[/sp]
[sp]You're right, I apologise, I thought it would be a bit nuanced enough to not be very spoilery but I can see how it might be for others and I have changed my avatar to prevent any possible spoilers. I don't meant to be the fun police or whatever, I don't mind jokes/memes and whatnot as long as they're even slightly covered up but untagged pure spoilers should be a no go imo.[/sp]
Well I was 100% joking, its okay. I just think the whole [sp]Yuri holding a hand behind her back[/sp] wasnt a spoiler, someone pointing it out might make people go 'wait what?' but there was no indication [sp]that shes holding a knife behind her back and not a book or something.[/sp] So i just thought in that case its a bit stringent compared to some of the lenience in the thread
It's a reference to [sp]the scars on her wrists, not her holding a knife[/sp]. It's something that would warrant [sp]hiding in that regard, because Yuri pretty openly tells the protagonist in the "normal" route about her hobby of collecting knives. But even during that scene at the protag's house she's wearing long sleeves to hide the scars from him.[/sp]
It's something I probably would've caught onto if it were pointed out mostly because [sp]there's only so many reasons a person would hide their arms like that.[/sp]
iirc, there's even a part where you come back into the room, and[sp]she's quickly rolling her sleeves back down[/sp]
I'm curious now.
[sp]Do you think that without Monika's tampering Yury and the playable character would had been able to form a healthy relationship? Can we assume that sooner or later the most dangerous aspect of Yuri's personality would had surfaced big time and the whole thing would had ended in tragedy, one way or the other?[/sp]
Really though, I wouldn't mind another Katawa Shoujo-like VN about trying to get closer with a partner with a psychological condition you had to slowly understand and face for love's sake.
It'd be interesting, if anything

I doubt it.
[sp]My main reason being that whoever is the acting club president will always undergo the same (in Monika's words) hellish epiphany that causes them to spiral into insanity making them destroy everything/everyone if its their only means of getting to you. It's a vicious and unbreakable cycle.[/sp]
And never forget

[sp]I think he's suggesting if that curse didn't exist, like you just got normal girls with noone amping their issues up by 10. So if this was a normal VN dating sim persay, would someone like Yuri be able to have a healthy relationship?
I'd go so far to say that all of them would have had manageable issues simply because, in theory, the game was '''meant''' to be a normal dating sim with romanceable characters. I could see Yuri's spiral downward being a bad end if you act like a jerkass, but I think things would be fine if not for Monika.[/sp]

but then what about [sp]Sayori at the end? I thought the game itself was the problem.[/sp]

Pretty much what Darth_Toast said. [sp]The fault explicitly lies within the game itself.[/sp]
[sp]If you're referring to whether Yuri's tropes would be manageable or not, I can't see why not. Yuri was clearly friendly enough after Monika was purged at the end right before Sayori went batshit.[/sp]
IOW in another world, sure. I mean [sp]not every person that cuts themselves turns into a suicidal sociopath.[/sp]
Whether [sp]the cutting is something that can be overcome is entirely up to the player in that situation. There's so many different reasons a person cuts themselves and we're never really given the opportunity to delve deeper into Yuri's life or background. It's entirely possible she does simply get some sort of sexual gratification from it, but generally speaking it stems from separate emotional problems and is used as a coping mechanism.
There's some insight into this here: https://www.quora.com/How-and-why-do-some-people-experience-pleasure-from-self-mutilation[/sp]
Knowing her background in regards to [sp]The Portrait of Markov[/sp] it's pretty blatantly obvious why she would do that. But that hasn't been confirmed and is speculation at this point. It's entirely possible that [sp]in this hypothetical world that Yuri simply wouldn't cut herself at all because she never felt the need to.[/sp]

Could it be...? :sbhj:
I really like this game. I haven't even played it, since I figured that I was too heavily spoiled to bother trying to experience a fresh playthrough, but after watching a couple of LPs I can say that it's an incredible short story that had me hooked.
It got me to grab the fan pack on Steam, even though I'll likely never clock a single minute on it, I feel like Dan deserves my money and praise.
It got me to whip up a simple fanart, because it filled me with inspiration.
It got me to enjoy a VN, which my cousin has failed to get me into for a year (sorry man!).
Really looking forward to whatever his next project will be!

Please this. I love collecting figures and this would be a great opportunity.
They could have a ton of cute accessories too like Sayori and her [sp]noose[/sp], Yuri's [sp]stabby knife[/sp] and Natsuki and [sp]all the food she doesn't get[/sp]!
But who are we kidding, you really only need a Monika figure. Just Monika.
Seriously though, I'd buy these.
I'd buy a Monika nendoroid and put it on my desk and look at it everytime I use the computer.
And turn her around when I masturbate.
i'd sell my fuckin soul for a monika nendo

For what it's worth, he mentioned his interest in working with GoodSmile a few months ago, as well.
