Posting a link to the planned skill tree for my bladefall trapper. Please let me know if I'm way off course here, because I haven't built a trapper and am pretty shit at the right sight of the tree in general. I would also recommend taking Growth and Decay since it's right there. [editline]3rd January 2016[/editline] Past of Exile - Early Alpha Screenshots Man, early PoE literally looked like a 3d Diablo 2 :v:
does he have to go poison though?
I didn't even notice he wasn't going poison, bladefall poison trapper is pretty popular so I assumed he was :v: I don't think you need to, especially if you don't have the money for a Bino's. Bladefall is good enough by itself, although even without Bino's poison is pretty good. For non-poison I'd recommend something like this. Picking up scion life wheel, frenzy charges, and life regen. You could also get Force Shaper for extra damage. Not sure what you would do for single target on a non-poison bladefall trapper. Bear trap isn't that great without poison.

Farming Vaal zones is so much more rewarding than Dried Lake. In only an hour or so, I've completed three Chaos recipes and found five Midnight fragments worth 5-6 Chaos a pop. I haven't ever made this much this quickly. Suddenly getting that Drillneck doesn't seem so difficult anymore!
566 hours in and I haven't gotten around to killing Atziri yet. I am not even sure what I've spent so much time on.
Do you just pop in the 1/4th fragments in to your map device and farm those?
Yep! It opens a random level 68 corrupted zone with magic modifiers and increased items dropped. You can run them very quickly because they're small zones with very linear layouts, there's a guaranteed unique boss at the end, and it's actually not too difficult to sustain your "map" pool. I only had, like, a dozen fragments starting off, and I got thirty or forty runs out of them because of how many fragments were dropping. Each run is guaranteed to have either: 1) A Vaal Skill Gem (seven and a fragment make a Vaal Orb) 2) Another Dawn, Dusk, or Noon Sacrifice fragment (Spin Again, basically) 3) Sacrifice at Midnight Fragment, worth 5-6 Chaos Orbs On top of that, you can still keep farming for those rare talismans and rings for your Chaos Orb recipes. It's quite efficient!

Still, an ex in two hours! I felt like I was shit out of luck on ever getting anything that cost more than a few Chaos.
I remember farming Vaal zones in The Archives for hours before they changed the layout, back then you could sell 6 midnights for an exalt :v:
been thinking about how viable an iron will whispering ice build would be all the WI builds I've seen are CI or low life for obvious reasons, but doing some really rough calculations it seems like with both str and int (say 750 each) you can do a pretty tanky mind over matter character, 5000hp for over 7000 effective hp is reasonably achievable uniques like astramentis and black sun crest help both strength and int and the combo synergises well with the high int and str requirements of the repentance gloves (free iron will) iron will has better scaling than WI's int bonus (1% per 10 int, 2% per 10 strength), but is that enough to beat icestorm's flat damage scaling? I'm generally inclined to prefer flat damage, but since both flat and % scaling give diminishing returns, it must come down to having some kind of optimal balance. with EB reserving all my mana with flat damage auras might help in that regard

I've burned through my stockpile of fragments and am having trouble getting more.

if I'm just farming for currency and uniques (not doing any crafting or selling to other players), is there a substantial benefit to doing maps above Tier 8? the only real benefit I can think of is getting regals instead of chaos from the vendor recipe, and I don't think the chance of getting the highest-tier stat rolls is worth the currency I would have to invest to sustain a high-tier map pool [editline]5th January 2016[/editline]
Interesting. if you can't do dipshit hard map rolls to sustain a high pool while still selling some of your high maps with no external map purchases i don't think it's really worth running anything past 8 [editline]5th January 2016[/editline] unless it's for xp, obviously

I've been making a similar map for The Fetid Pool, which is also quite easy. Not sure if I have the pattern down perfectly yet, but I've definitely noticed a trend! The corrupted zone always seems to spawn on the left if the entrance opens to the left, and to the right if it opens to the right/up. It always seems to spawn in the same location relative to the entrance, and the shape of the wall leading up to it seems to be a strong indicator on whether or not it will be there. Until I figure it out, the Fetid Pool only takes about a minute to run, so not a big deal at all to just do a quick loop and scan for the corrupted zone, especially since I have +30% movespeed boots, a +20% movespeed helmet, Haste, phase run, and quicksilver flasks.
Alright I am back to playing some PoE and have a naked level 85 witch. I've been wanting to do a build with a 50% magic damage Clear Mind Jewel but I haven't been keeping up to date with all the nerfs/updates. Looking for fun/whacky builds out there to try out.
Interesting. That only work at the docks?
Ye, merc. Docs is the right spot for frame time farming. Although, lately, I've been having more consistence in the Ledge. Take your pick: either run the quirky Docs layout, or go for the Ledge drivethrough. Notes on Ledge: - take the teleporter, run to one end. Start loading the map from one of the exits, not the teleporter. - weapon swap a 1.5 dagger with Whirling Blades - Faster Attacks - Fortify - whirl through mobs, get to the corrupted zone Farm about 20 useless fragments, then load 'em in the map device and open corrupted zone that way. Sell "full sac. sets", farm with the rest of the fragments.
It's funny that they haven't fixed frame time farming after all this time.
Honestly I hope they never do unless they change how Vaal zones work. It's pretty painful to farm sets without doing it.
It's funny that they haven't fixed frame time farming after all this time.
I consider it a "feature" of the SHITE limited game engine, a memory hogger that forces me to run PoE in potato mode, even with i7 4820 and 32gb of ram. How else am I going to track those awesome rogue exiles, talisman shrines, masters, corrupted zones? (I always rage regarding the potato PoE engine)
it's pretty fundamental to how the world gen works... it isn't some flaw in the engine they can just fix

With everything maxed, at 60 fps. Not to mention my newer system which doesn't even dip below 60 when packs blow up. The engine seemed really solid to me.
Yowza, had some decent luck with dock farming with this method. Two more midnights, and about 20 other fragments to churn through the map device.
