I think my favorite challenge league was Ambush, the one that introduced Strongboxes in the game. More loot, more enemies, and overall just fun stuff. Especially because you could edit the mods on the strongboxes. Most favorite leagues: 1. Ambush (strongboxes) 2. Prophecy (coins and prophecies) 3. Perandus (money and buying items) Least favorite leagues: 1. Rampage (killstreak bonuses) 2. Onslaught (monsters have +20% more damage and attack speed) 3. Nemesis (nemesis mods on rares)
My least favorite league (that I played) was probably Warbands. At least in Rampage the league mechanic was always there, in Warbands you could completely forget you're not in Standard if you were mapping and didn't go out of your way to do whatever maps the Warbands were in. Talisman was also pretty bad outside of Night's Hold existing. Favorite league was probably Perandus? Essence was nice but outside of crafting it didn't really do anything. Torment was fun once they finally fixed the ghost AI. [editline]22nd November 2016[/editline] Strongboxes are one of the best things they've added to the game but I didn't actually play in Ambush.
Cadiro's Bro Deals made Perandus a personal favorite. Ambush and Essence follow for popularity.
Rampage is probably my least favourite. Warbands had the potential to be really awesome and was awesome on paper but just wasn't well implemented. Rampage was just an overlayed shoehorned mechanic that I felt didn't contribute much or make the gameplay any deeper. Warbands at least brought a new way to play the game. Favourite is probably Prophecy. Prophecy just brought such an awesome mechanic to the game and an entirely new way to play and farm currency if you wanted to. Whenever I got bored of mapping I'd take all my silver coins I acquired and would just rush through prophecies and try to get good ones to do/sell.
Essence means I need to buy more stash tabs.. but yeh it's good at any point which is the nice thing, for leveling or smash together for end game. Perandus was the best by far though, bar having to pick up the coins.
ambush before the initial nerf was my favorite league vaal cycloning the 5+ strongboxes in every southern forest instance was amazing for levelling
Four new uniques teased in the latest announcement post; that amulet is fucking nuts and the early game uniques look sweet as all get out. http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1771475/page/1
So, it's one week until 2.5. What builds are you guys going to start the league out with? I'm personally going Explosive Arrow Champion as my league starter. Duelist is the only character class I haven't played yet.
I started playing PoE quite recently and went with Templar as I like STR/INT characters. I'm probably gonna fuck around for a bit build-wise but investing in HP and mana is a good place to start for everybody, right?

I'll just chance another Skyforths :vs:

Mana is quite meh unless you're playing a build that utilizes something like Mind over Matter and the Hierophant's 10% MoM Jr. node. What gems are you using?
Probably CI Assassin Blade Flurry, unless they absolute gut BF. Meta as fuck and the gear will be expensive, but it's okay... I haven't played Explosive Arrow since 1.1 and back then I only reached like level 65 before I quit the character. I really wanna try EA with all the new changes, ascendancy classes, elemental equilibrium and the new shaper flask.

I'm still super early but my end goal is to run around like a madman electrocuting and/or stabbing people.
Im thinking of a righteous fire marauder build. The new fire based uniques look really cool.
Also today's the "spend points to get a free carnage box day" I'm thinking of doing a Blade Flurry Assasin or pathfinder build.
I might do RF Scorching Ray Inquisitor. Or just Scorching Ray
Probably gonna do cyclone marauder. It’s a pretty fun no-brain farm all day build which lets me build up some economy for later if i wanna try something else.
I really hope Cast While Channeling is good. I want to see if Bligh+CWC+Contagion+IAOE works better than simply using Contagion in an ED build.
I've played a the game a bit, but don't really know anything about end game or gearing. What would be a decent build to use for the new league for a noob?
I've played a the game a bit, but don't really know anything about end game or gearing. What would be a decent build to use for the new league for a noob?
nowadays there are many gear independent builds you can use to build up currency. Flame Totem chieftain, Oro's Flicker Strike, Blade Vortex pathfinder (somewhat less gear independent but still cheaper than most meta builds) and so forth Personally any flame totem build you can find on the PoE forums will be one of the perfect new character builds so that you can start mapping and building up your currency. Clear speed holds primary importance even above magic find as the faster you're clearing the more you'll get, though whatever you can put on gear certainly won't hurt.
I've played a the game a bit, but don't really know anything about end game or gearing. What would be a decent build to use for the new league for a noob?
Just like Zonesylvania said, builds that doesn't rely too much on gear are probably the best builds to start a league with if you're new to the game. But really, most skills work well to a certain degree for endgame content. Don't worry about picking the most beginner friendly skill, since if you don't find your skill fun and satisfying to use you will probably not stick around. What I'd recommend is just pick a bunch of skill gems, play around with them and find the one you enjoy the most. Odds are, there are going to be at least a couple builds on the forums that are current and up-to-date utilizing them successfully in end game content. Unfortunately many builds on the forums are sub-optimal and some are just outright bad builds, and it can be quite hard, especially as a new player, to seperate the wheat from the chaff. If you find a build that you think looks good and fun, you can always ask someone here to take second look or jump in-game and ask someone in the guild who's online. Most active people in this thread have thousands of hours of playtime and have been playing the game for years and know more about the game than almost anyone outside the devs, we're always happy to help.
thinking about using the new low level bow, the signal fire quiver, and chieftains death's fury node with AoF for 100% phys to fire with 75% extra fire damage on shockwave totem I wonder if scorching ray can still debuff enemies with ancestral bond?
Yeah I'm pretty sure Scorching Ray will still debuff enemies even with ancestral bond. The debuff isn't tied to dealing damage.
Does increased cast speed/attack speed work with channeled spells? I know increased cast speed increased the speed of Flame Blast stack gaining, but would it work with scorching ray?
Does increased cast speed/attack speed work with channeled spells?
Probably gonna do cyclone marauder. Cyclone's more fun to use but EQ is just better imo
I'll probably wait til Act 5 is released.
New uniques and items announced. Vaal Breach seems neat. Those rings with doubled properties when in a breach seem pretty meh, but it's all going to depend on how often we find ourselves in a breach and how rare they are.
GGG said monsters from Vaal Breaches don't give XP, items, or souls for Vaal skills, so it seems like mostly a way of enabling your Breach rings and refilling flasks
I don't see the point of the uncapped resistance rings, you just get %inc for the current percentage you are under 75? so even if you go down to 50% res you're getting a pathetic 25% increased crit chance and you're taking double lightning damage? in what world is that viable for anybody

So if you have 200% Lightning resistance in normal, you will have 170% in cruel and 140% in merciless. So in normal you would have 200% crit and 170 / 140% in cruel / merciless respectively. Uncapped resistance = total resistance
