I guess they have to pay for their golden servers somehow...
I wish they had a "try it on" thing so we could see what mtx actually look like in game. GGG are the best devs I can think of, but I have two huge gripes with them when it comes to how they handle prioritization of development and their pricing of mtx.
I do think 40-50 dollars for an armour set is quite expensive but you need to take in account that every single expansion released so far has been completely free and all future ones will be too.

I wouldn't mind spending that kind of money for an armour set if you could equip it on every character at the same time. They need a completely separate character equip screen for mtx instead of this "attach it to items" nonsense.

Chris even said on reddit today that we could expect MTX improvments at 3.0.0 launch
As a fairly new player, the prices seem a little daunting. Just the price to buy stash tabs, especially the special ones, is like the cost of a full game.
For the entertainment I've gained from Path of Exile, I've spent compareable little compared to what I would have spent in other games. Almost 3500 hours for under $1000 is pretty good in my opinion. I could have probably gotten away with spending a fraction of that if I just wanted stashtabs. I can see how people might think that $50 for an armour set is expensive, but in my opinion that price point is perfectly fine. It's entirely optional, it's not anything that's going to enhance your gameplay experience or give you an edge in anyway. Stash tab bundle prices are fine when they're on sale, off sale they're a bit too expensive in my opinion. But hey, you could drop $100 and buy 6 stashtab bundles when they're on sale and never have to spend another penny on the game ever again. Hell, even 3 stashtab bundles would probably suffice depending on how much you play the game. I hope they implement the MTX QoL feature soon, such as the ability to move around MTX in your MTX tab. Since when you get 3-4+ MTX tabs it becomes hell looking for stuff.

You might struggle a bit if you want to play the market game, or if you are a hoarder though.

For $60 I can buy a full on new game that gives me 100 hours of playtime pretty easily. Spending $20 on what are essentially QoL tabs seems kind of crazy for a normal player.

Compared to spending a couple hundred on Path of Exile over several years, which has give me thousands of hours of gametime. I've been playing Path of Exile for over 3 years and I have 3383 hours currently played on Steam, and during that time I've spent $480 on the game, about $12 a month or about $1 for every 7 hours played. I don't have to spend another penny on the game and I'm not sure if I'm ever going to spend more money on the game. Path of Exile is a comparably cheap game compared to most of the F2P trash and AAA junk being released.

Hey guys could somebody invite me to the FP guild? My in-game name is hoodani
Hey guys could somebody invite me to the FP guild? My in-game name is hoodani
Sent you an invite
Could I get an invite as well? Posted like a week ago but never got one. IGN Knamaa
Another bunch of shitty MTXs, this time Chrismas 'infusing': http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1795552 That yeti mask looks so retarded...
I'm disappointed as well. I was expecting reindeer pets, christmas tree hideout decorations, santa costume mtx...
That mask is $22. Yeah, I'll pass.. [editline]16th December 2016[/editline] If you're gonna make """exclusive""" MTX, at least make them good and don't overcharge... [editline]16th December 2016[/editline] Also those arctic wings looks way too much like D3 imo. Doesn't fit very well, I much prefer Essence Wings with the arctic set.

how to sell stuff in path of exile ? when you don't have premium tab
https://github.com/xyzz/acquisition/releases or https://github.com/Stickymaddness/Procurement/releases if you google 'procurement forum shop guide' you should get a good idea of how to set them up
You vendor half of it because nobody will buy it anyway, I don't think anyone will be interested in a 140 ES regalia even if it has some resists on it
At this point in the league, nobody's going to buy an unlinked chestplate that's not god tier. 5L are going for like 1-5c and you can get a decent base 6L for 1-2 Ex, maybe even less. Most unique items aren't going to sell for much. Pretty much just put lvling uniques in gstash and vendor the rest.
A Preview of Content Update 2.5.1 Someone finally made a Rigwald's Quills card.
I feel like I've hit a kind of wall in progress. My character is lvl 74, I'm in act 4 merc and up to tier 6 maps. I don't have enough currency to buy the equipment I want, but I'm too squishy to keep progressing maps. Is there some other grinding spot I'm missing or do I just keep running tier 4-6 maps until I get the currency to buy better equipment?
dried lake until your eyes bleed
dried lake until your eyes bleed
What makes dried lake especially good for farming?
High pack density, straightforward layout, easy mobs, and you can run it infinitely. Good XP until you get 80 then it becomes a bit of a pain. What's your HP? Are your resistances capped? What build are you running? Gear with life + resists on it is pretty cheap.

3.1k HP is pretty low for dried lake farming, let alone maps. How many life nodes have you gotten on the passive tree? Life builds generally want at least 170% increased life from the tree. (You can easily find out your HP % on the tree by logging in on the PoE site, going to your profile and then characters, then putting your passive skill tree link into something like PoEplanner) Do you have HP on all your gear (or at least most of it)? Rares with like 70 life and resistances are only like 1 alch - 1c. Do you have any other defenses? Basalt/granite flask, CWDT immortal call setup, blasphemy temporal chains/enfeeble, ect. You could link your character here and we could take a look at your gear. Have to make sure your profile isn't set to private under privacy settings though.
