....A beta for a select few is hugely disappointing.
Hugely disappointing and Salty for some people, but highly needed... (if those selected few do what they need to do in a beta: test, report bugs, learn, stream)

Hah, like that's going to happen.
people upset about how the beta is being handled are just mad because they want to play the game early

Took me like, 5 characters but I did it :v: Got both sets now.
I can't even motivate myself to do the SC ones, atm the game just reminds me of all the awesome QOL stuff that isn't in yet :v:
I'm so stoked for this expansion. Definitely going to be coming back. A new act is cool, but adding gem slots to the skill tree is amazing.

While it does seem very cool, it's also adding a huge layer of paywall and rng to the skill tree... which isn't a good thing.

On the other hand, I doubt they'd completely ruin every build just to cram in jewels. You'll probably be able to make do with found jewels, or even no jewels at all. I mean, even now you don't need x pieces of best in slot equipment to get through the game's content, you just will be less efficient. Hell, jewels may even end up power creeping and let more builds be viable than could be before.

It doesn't look like it's changing the tree much at all. You'll still undoubtedly be able to make all the usual builds-- this just adds a new layer to character creation, especially for those who have already been playing for a while.

Paywall? Do you have to buy the gems with irl money?
Paywall? Do you have to buy the gems with irl money?
Not unless you use a third party. Path of Exile is against pay to win, the biggest game affecting microtransaction you can get is storage space and character slots, everything else is cosmetic.
Paywall? Do you have to buy the gems with irl money?
Paywall to the effect of how expensive the small percentage of actual useful/good uniques are compared to the rest.

So everybody is going to use golems and every melee build is going to use rallying cry/fortify :v: You could probably do something with TS/puncture using bloodlust but I don't think it'd be worth the socket.
I felt a minor bit of satisfaction a moment ago when I used a single jeweler's orb to get a 3 link 4 socket pair of boots from its initial single socket. I then tried my luck for a 4 link and ended up using what little I had to get right back where I was. Oh well, it's still a net improvement.
Edit: I want that chaos golem.
Those socketed jewels are going to open up so much more build variety, I can't wait what people come up with

I really hope that nova feature isn't specific to that unique item. I want that as a support gem. I like Nova characters, but we don't have many Nova skills, so it'd be a shame to lock such a build-enabling power to a single, and probably very expensive item. I'm wondering about the viability of stuff like GMP, Nova, Arctic Breath / Fireball / Freezing Pulse. Anything with an AOE or the ability to "shotgun" could be super cool with a Nova skill to blast that shit all around you.

Question: If the nova staff makes a nova with 4 additional projectiles, can you link it to Vaal Spark and crash the game?
[editline].[/editline]
Oh god, imagine if there was a full party with each player having that staff + vaal spark + greater multiple projectiles + spell echo (if it works) and they all used it at the same time
I also wonder how it interacts with Fork. If Fork creates new projectiles when the projectile hits a target, will it also create another nova around the struck target? Could you create a nova of forking Fireballs that make every monster in a pack blurp out a new nova?

Vaal Spark with GMP, Nova, Spell Echo, and Fork to immediately crash server.

that boss fight [sp] was played in normal, and apparently Kaom is the first boss of Act 4. They also have confirmed they are 9 bosses total in Act 4. [/sp]
Finally, my first serious attempt at playing HC now yields results.

Now lets see if I can get the SC set in the remaining time without being careful.

[sp]Well he dropped a Loricated Ringmail, so I doubt it's in normal.[/sp]

That's a lot of health flasks :v:
Beta balance notes got posted and quickly restricted to only beta accounts, but somebody screenshoted them:

It says people shouldn't speculate over a single change but man, that shotgun nerf :v:
I'm feeling mixed about the minion change, but I might be biased considering I have 8 zombies out and put out 8 raging spirits in combat.
I like it all, the projectile change should make multiple projectiles more of an important choice, rather than something you take 100% of the time, and ondar's guile was also too 100% before because of the reflect immunity
I even like the controversial EB change, since it allows for more interesting interactions than just 'now I have unlimited mana from clarity and free AA'
not sure about the minion change since I've never played summoner
What happens when Closed Beta starts tomorrow?
So I guess they decided "fuck it" and posted them anyway.
I'm fine with most of the changes. Don't see why they're removing buff effect nodes though. The chance to attack skills sounds great.
Eldritch Battery and the shotgun projectile bit were effortlessly the most interesting changes. Also rip buff effect nodes.
