I was going through act 1 cruel with my summoner when my inventory got full near the cavern of wrath waypoint, so I go to my hideout to sell all the junk I've accumulated, and head out. I get to Merveil and prepare myself for a possibly difficult battle since enemies earlier were doing a number on me (though that's entirely my fault as I'm just blazing through the act right now). The fight lasted about 10 seconds and I was like, "Wow, my zombies totally vaporized her!". I go to the forest waypoint. I find out I had ended up in act 1 normal when I left my hideout, so I have to do the whole fight over in cruel.
[sp]My zombies still ripped her to shreds. 30-45 seconds, tops.[/sp]
Goodbye to incinerate, flame totem...and almost every projectile spell :(

Don't see why they're removing buff effect nodes though.
possibly to not make the new buffs that reduce damage OP

The biggest boon to the shotgun removal is that it allows all ranged abilities to be more easily balanced around each other, and for enemies to be more carefully balanced around those abilities. Ultimately, I think this change will make a lot of builds a lot more viable than they used to be, and open up a lot more freedom of choice into others.

it would allow for more interesting skill gems to be added on later as well, as the devs mentioned, because shotgunning was crimping some of their ideas.
One skill tree jewel that I'm very interested in is the "converts weapon damage modifiers in this radius to bow damage modifiers" unique. I hope it applies to all bow damage, and not just physical damage. I want Poison Arrow to be off da chain.
I'm interested in their solution to burn proliferation, or prolif in general. Maybe elemental effects now degrade in strength if they affect more targets.

Oh that's cool
If anyone's interested, this is the character I submitted to Hall of Grandmasters. Back in the day it was Life based though, I changed to Low Life once I got a 6L Shavs, but it's more or less the same.
Swap out the Shavs with Lightning Coil and energy shield with life based items and nodes in the tree.

I'd suggest skipping minion life as much as possible at lower levels. Before A3M and a good +2 minion helmet zombies are just so dispensable. You should try to maximize their damage output before they die. Make sure you can summon new ones whenever possible, so you're not destroying your mana pool.
So switch the Minion Life at the Gravepact wheel to the Minion Damage at the Death Attunement wheel.

Nerfing things so hard that other things become viable isn't the way to do it.
Nerfing things so hard that other things become viable isn't the way to do it.
They're not just "nerfing" this mechanic, though. They're rebalancing, like, everything. Monsters, skills, equipment, etc. Some things will be nerfed, some will be buffed, some will be changed at a conceptual level. The end result will be a wider variety of builds that are viable throughout the entire game instead of just the same few cookie cutter builds that exploit the same few absurdly strong mechanics. The only way to make the end-game challenging for those players was to make it inaccessibly difficult for most others. So, this is a good and necessary thing. It translates into a mor level playing field that allows for a lot more diversity and experimentation while preserving a consistently ramping level of difficulty, especially with skill tree jewel slots opening up some really interesting new mechanics for character building.

It sounds more like they're changing everything. I'm sure they'll buff skills like FP and incinerate in some way to make up for the lack of shotgunning.

Thanks! Cool stuff here! Here are the highlights for others:
Q: FlamingRhino: Chris, serious question now.. Most builds aren't Atziri-viable, and very few are Uber viable. Will the coming update change that dramatically?
A: Chris: Flaming: everything is different now

Chris: The Coves is gone now
Chris: the acts have had their lengths adjusted
Chris: to fit Act Four and be less boring
Chris: Pruple: we moved Oak
Chris: wetlands is now not on the other side of the Vaal Ruins
Shorter Solaris Temple!
Q: EzMapsEzLife: Chris no more solaris then?
A: Chris: Ez: it's shorter
On fixing desynch:
Q: Flittercheeks: ***Chris is the lockstep ready?
A: Chris: Flitter: ~3 weeks
A: Chris: :-(
A: Chris: but it's amazing
Q: NursewithoutWound: Is there going to be very rare jewels, rare as mirror?

A: Chris: there are 100+ mods that can occur on rare jewels

Q: WoT_Seanchan: Chris will the vendors offer ALL orbs instead of some?
A: Chris: vendors actually offer gems in 2.0.0

Q: ThisIsMyMainOnSC: chris can you tell us some of the things vaal orbs can do to the jewells?
A: Chris: This: you should try it...
I'm super stoked. This is definitely going to breath new life into PoE.
lol this is so tense, you actually see the names of the people that are going to get a beta invite next on the countdown timer
Yeah it's funny, longest 5 minutes in the world for those people on upcoming invite :v:
Man, the guy that's getting one next has 5 characters total with the highest being lv 58...

they should at least make sure that they don't pick accounts that haven't played in more than a few months or something
Saw this on reddit, was fairly amused by it

Ye, basically. Now, if only it weren't for my fear that unique jewels will be rare and expensive!
Rip Prolif
30% less spell dmg, ouchies.

For as far as I know, plenty of beta streamers have already dropped multiple unique jewels.
The ones that will be rare and expensive are the ones you can only get from vaal orbing unique jewels

Somewhere, Chris said that unique drop rates would be increased in the beta because of all the jewels. I don't know if he intended that to say that it would only apply during the beta, for testing purposes, or whether he meant that unique drop rates would be increasing starting with the beta and continuing forever and ever.
Either way, I'm still broke as heck in PoE, and the massive inflation basically shuts me out from the super end-game content without getting a number of absurdly lucky drops. I just hope that PoE 2.0's sweeping balance changes and new mechanics will make end-game content more accessible for more builds at less cost. If jewels do end up being a very expensive thing, it could actually raise the cost of a character build substantially, which would be about the worst thing that could happen as far as I'm concerned!

Just play the challenge leagues if inflation is bothering you that much, everyone starts fresh and if you play it right and sell items at the start you'll be pretty rich.
is there an FP guild I could join? I'm new to the game and have dumped about 40 hours or so into it so far.
Post your ingame character name and I'll throw you an invite

I've actually never played a challenge league before. I'm not a hardcore player, so the whole "die and you're done" thing sounds frustrating, especially with the desynch issues that have plagued the game since launch. Hopefully those issues are about to be resolved with the lockstep system, though! Are there any ongoing challenge leagues right now?

You realize there's a softcore and hardcore challenge league right? You can play just play the softcore one which usually lasts around 3-4 months, everybody starts fresh with a clean economy.
The current challenge leagues are almost done, so no point in starting now. Unfortunately GGG hasn't stated what will happen once those are over, I'm afraid we'll have to wait for the beta to end before we get new ones.

deimind is the one I'm playing with the most at the moment, since my brother is playing as well. I'm not good with names.
