What build should I choose, I'm just starting the game for the first time now. I'm looking for a build which is easy to grind with, and is quicker at leveling than other builds.
Ranger
I use Flaming Arrows (+ Added Fire Damage, + Elemental Damage support gems) for single target damage
Lightning Arrows (+ Fork, + Lesser Multiple Projectiles) for AoE damage
Rain of Arrows (+ Healing per unit hit) if I need to heal myself, just shoot once in a group of +5 and I get healed to full health
Warlord's Mark as a curse, it gives me lifesteal and manasteal on cursed enemies, sometimes I get Endurance charges (bonus durability)
Blood Rage because it gives Frenzy Charges on kills (bonus attack and cast speed) and I have a larger cap on Frenzy charges so I can get a big amount of them, giving me a lot of bonus attack speed. It also gives me lifesteal.
Overall it is a pretty safe and efficient build, it doesn't have a special focus with any spell meaning I lack damage to kill stuff super fast, but it isn't slow. If you want, you could go for a full Flaming Arrow build and just get as many support gems for it as possible (+ elemental damage, + fire damage, + physical damage, AoE, lifesteal etc.) and get passive nodes that grant physical, elemental and fire damage.
Also remember to get some Gain Mana On Kill passives, otherwise you are out of mana potions constantly
Playing a ranger like this is somewhat more boring than other classes, but it is a good way to get to know the game a little bit.

Ranger is a pretty safe class to choose, especially if you're playing Hardcore or Nemesis.
I don't know if a Ranger appeals to you but I made a small Rain of Arrows build for someone else in the thread, I'll just repost it for you.

Skills: AoE Attack
4 Link: Rain of Arrows / Life Leech / Faster Attacks / Concentrated Effect
5 Link: Rain of Arrows / Life Leech / Faster Attacks / Concentrated Effect / Weapon Elemental Damage
6 Link: Rain of Arrows / Life Leech / Faster Attacks / Concentrated Effect / Weapon Elemental Damage / Blood Magic
Your Go-to Unique item is a Lioneye's Glare, on standard league a 5 Link sells for 5 exalts, and a 6 Link sells for 15-20 exalts depending on the rolls.
IF you get your hands on a 6 Link, you can drop the Blood Magic and Resolute Technique Keystone and swap over to this tree, note that it does require some additional levels so alternatively you could spec out of some extra damage nodes so you can get the reduced mana reservation nodes. These should let you run 2 60% auras of your mana while using the Blood Magic gem to cast your skills.
Skills: Single Target
4 Link: Frenzy / Life Leech / Weapon Elemental Damage / Faster Attacks (or Blood Magic if you dropped the Blood Magic Keystone)
5 Link: Frenzy / Life Leech / Weapon Elemental Damage / Faster Attacks / Added Fire Damage (or Blood Magic if you dropped the Blood Magic Keystone)
6 Link: Frenzy / Life Leech / Weapon Elemental Damage / Faster Attacks / Added Fire Damage / Blood Magic
These are your main 2 attack skills that you'll be using.
Other skills you want to use are Enduring Cry for survivability. Warlord's Mark is also a pretty neat curse to use for leveling, end game you can consider using something like temp chains or Enfeeble to reduce risks of dying.
Rain of Arrows is like, the cookie cutter build for Ranger. It doesn't require insane gear like Lightning Arrow does, but you can make it as expensive as you want. Obviously insane gear will make your character a lot better, but unlike Lightning Arrow builds, you can do fine without.
This build is also extremely tanky, so you'll have a lot of survivability. Perfect for new players! You'll get Blood Magic so also less Flask management in terms of mana problems.

Killing a Berserker Nemesis monster now completes the challenge item correctly.
Fixed some passive skill tree connectivity near the Falcon Claws group.
Fixed a bug where monster deaths from Puncture were not awarded as kills correctly.
Fixed a bug where the "Achievement Complete" text would sometimes persist in a faded state.
Fixed a bug where Rejuvenation Totem didn't benefit from passive skills that improved its effect.
Monster packs around shrines are now not spawned if they are too close to an area entrance or waypoint.
Fixed a crash related to Raise Spectre.

Hey, anyone interested in selling a Quill Rain? I'm bored with my current build, I want to shoot explosive arrows at a machinegun rate.

Thing is that all PoE's data is stored in a single 4GB file. So it takes some time to unpack, update and pack it.
So far I'm having tons of fun with my ranger, just get split arrow and you can kill groups of mobs very easily, at levels ~12 you can get lighting arrow, and then at ~16 you can get fork which makes it much stronger than split arrow.
Alternatively as my witch I went for fire spells + summon zombies/skeletons. Your minions tank for you while you deal massive damage, skeletons are important for when there aren't many bodies around (boss fights like Brutus at the prison). But this build is very mana reliant so make sure you got good mana flasks or throw some points in mana boosting passive skills.
I'm having fun playing Shadow, level 14 thus far.
I'm sure it gets harder along the way, only time I've died has been when I ended up getting surrounded by mobs in the fetid pool

I don't know why you would invest in mana boosting passives when you can get Blood Magic, it has so many benefits for ranger, especially while leveling. Maybe when you get a 6 link lategame you can drop the Blood Magic Keystone, but you'll want to use a Blood Magic support gem for your skills then.
Starting from the Ranger Area, you can pick up a lot of useful Keystones on your way towards Blood Magic, such as Iron Reflexes and Unwavering Stance (which is an amazing combination by the way). You can also grab Iron Grip if you have a lot of Strength.
A generic path towards Blood Magic for ranger would be something like this. It only takes 45 points to get there, and I also included some HP nodes that you'll want to get.
Not only does it pass by extremely good Keystones, but it frees up Flask slots as well since you don't have to manage your mana anymore. Generally I run 2 HP pots, 1 Quicksilver and a Granite Flask. With the 1.0.0 they introduced a Jade Flask which gives an Evasion boost compared to the Armour boost of a Granite Flask, but if you have Iron Reflexes you can use both a Jade and Granite Flask to get an insane amount of Armour during the Flask effect.

Good luck with Shadow, I can't play him at all.
Holy shit in the Slums at Act 3 I got a white robe that had good stats and 4 links so I used an orb of chance and got it up to an amazing yellow. It gives +270 evasion and a whole myriad of other stats wow.

So which reward do you guys recommend taking for the "deal with the bandits" quest?
I wish that I found something other than whites.
Seriously, I opened a 'LARGE CHEST' earlier in a level 30 zone and got nothing but whites.
Oh and one blue, thank god.
I got 2 blues and 3 orbs on my last Large chest.
Was pretty crappy, I got an achievement though.
So which reward do you guys recommend taking for the "deal with the bandits" quest?
If I remember correctly, the old man may give you the best reward which was an orb of regret or something. I may be wrong or that may have been changed, though.
Does anyone else pick up every blue item and sell it to get those orb shards? I've been doing it ever since I started the game and it's been really worth it. I wouldn't have most of my good orbs if I had not done that.

for "normal" you should pretty much always kill all of the bandits, to get another passive point
at least for a witch

i pick up all blue+, all superior items, all chromatic items (red/green/blue link)
sell the blues, keep the rares/uniques, sell large batches of superiors for quality improvement items, etc

There's a maurader leap slam build? I didn't know there was a build, but all i seem to be using as a maurader is leap slam and double strike (double strike is what i use to kill bosses, because leap slam is for mobs)
( i have bear traps, fireball and glacial hammer/ground slam (mallet) or enduring cry/decoy totem (which is useless)) for the axe. I don't use these often though... my axe is much better than my mallet and my axe skills feel useless. Fireball is ok for lazily killing escaping enemies and bear traps is good for running away.
I'm actualy getting a little bored of using only leap slam spam.
What good are these chromatic items? Do they give chromatic gems?
As long as the item has at least 1 red, 1 blue and 1 green socket linked to each other, you can get a chromatic orb.
I'mma draw a picture that explains, wait a moment please
[editline]dicks[/editline]
[T]http://i.imgur.com/AF0XlFA.png[/T]
Items in red box don't give a chromatic orb when sold, items in green box do.
Sometimes vendors sell items for as low as 1 Scroll of Wisdom, but you can resell the item and get a chromatic orb.
------------------------------------
You can also get Armorer's Scraps (selling armor), Blacksmith's Whetstones (selling weapons), Glassblower's Baubles (selling flasks) and Gemcutter's Prisms (selling skillgems) if their quality is high enough.
An item with 20% quality can be sold for 1 of the respective item, otherwise you need to sell multiple items that total for at least 40% quality.
This means if you sell a Glass Shank with 20% quality, you get an Blacksmith's Whetstone.
If you have Wool Mittens (18% quality), Iron Cap (6% quality), Lamerral Armor (11% quality) and Iron Buckler (10% quality) you can sell all of them to get a single Armorer's Scrap (because the total quality of the items is over 40%)
This means if you spot a white item with 13% quality, you might want to pick it up and collect a bunch of them to sell for bonus loot.
------------------------------------
Flasks can be "upgraded" as well. If you have 3 of the same size flasks, you can sell them to a vendor to get a single higher level one: 3 Small Health Flasks equal 1 Medium Health Flask.
Here's the Vendor Recipes wiki page, which I recommend you to use. Wikis are always your friends in pretty much every game.

So how is 57% magic find? I've been fumbling around with gold amulets/rings and that's what I'm at right now.
How do I know what's good and what to hold on to in this game? I assume most gear drop sucks (I'm only level 30), but what about Gems? Do people buy Gems or are they just trash, because I've held on to all Gems I've found.
People only generally buy quality gems. Otherwise normal gems are dirt cheap
So how is 57% magic find? I've been fumbling around with gold amulets/rings and that's what I'm at right now.
As far as I know (correct me if wrong!), magic find works like this:
If your current chance to find a Magic item instead of a white item would be 3%, 57% increased magic find means you now have ~4.5% chance to find a magic item instead of a white one. So while it is okay, no amount of magic find will ever feel like "holy shit 80% of my drops are rare"
How do I know what's good and what to hold on to in this game? I assume most gear drop sucks (I'm only level 30), but what about Gems? Do people buy Gems or are they just trash, because I've held on to all Gems I've found.
Keep all mid-high level gems, low level gems aren't usually very valuable so you can gift/toss them, or sell a gem + iron ring to get a new ring.
Generally speaking it is a good idea to keep at least 1 of any gem, if you want to try a new build for a new charatcer you already have dozens of gems in your stash.
If a gem has any % quality, keep it.
You probably want to hold on to all Uniques you find, low level or not.

People tend to make "MF Characters", they focus on stacking Rarity and Quantity to get a chance at better and more loot. Generally they get between 300-400 Rarity and ~100 Quantity.
I've seen people with 450+ Rarity too.
