Woah. I just accidentally learned that (in the Closed Beta at least) you can right click a buff icon at the top-left corner to cancel it. That includes auras and shrines. Has this always been a thing that I've just somehow missed before, or is it a new addition?
It's old
I played this in the beta and it was fun But what can I expect from it now? Is there a lot of fun stuff to do?

Well apparently they did something in the latest update because now Path of Exile crashes my whole PC, hope they fix it soon I really wanted to play more.

So while waiting for the expansion to release I decided to create a new character on Standard and pump all my currency in to him. I decided to roll with a Cyclone 2h Marauder. Marauder is one of the few characters I haven't played yet and my experience with melee is limited. I smashed through the leveling experience, facetanked every boss from 20 to act 3 Merciless. One shotting almost any mob I came across. And this was with limited leveling gear(Managed to craft a 200pDPS 2h axe at level 30 and that carried me to 60 :v:) Just got to "end-game" with him. Ran a couple of 66 maps with Flashcat earlier, at level 62. And at 63 I smashed through a 73 Zana mission map with ease. This is with a Kaom's Primacy and a 4L setup. This is probably the most powerful build I have ever played, and there's almost no gear required. Making it a perfect character for temp. leagues and self-found play. I can't imagine how powerful I'll be when I upgrade to my Atziri's Disfavour and rocking a 6L. It's not my build, I decided to rock this guys build. If anyone's interested. Once the new temp leagues are out I'll probably create my own build.
Minutes after 6linking a shav, a vaal orb happend. I just couldn't resist the temptation. Time to craft some carnal armor. [t]http://imgur.com/cp9AsU4[/t]

General melee viability seems to be getting a big boost. Fortify alone makes a huge difference. Popping that on Cyclone ensures that you will basically never be without its damage reduction effect.

Mostly because of the +2 Weapon Range/+2 Support Gem levels but it's also good DPS for the value of the weapon. [editline]5th May 2015[/editline] [del]I got a spare 5L Atziri's Disfavour if anyone's interested. 14 Ex and it's yours.[/del] Bro dealed it to a random.
One Month Flashback Leagues
Here's a condensed version of the rules from the league threads: League Mod Schedule Day 1-4: Anarchy, Rampage and Bloodlines. Day 5-7: Nemesis, Invasion and Rampage. Day 8-9: All league mods. Day 10-12: Nemesis, Beyond and Bloodlines. Day 13-14: Anarchy, Invasion and Torment. Day 15-16: All league mods. Day 17-19: Anarchy, Domination, Beyond and Torment. Day 20-21: Nemesis, Invasion, Rampage and Bloodlines. Day 22-23: All league mods. Day 24-26: Anarchy, Onslaught, Ambush, Invasion and Rampage. Day 27-28: Onslaught, Domination, Ambush, Beyond and Rampage. Day 29-30: All league mods.
Sounds fun. Need to think of a build to do.
"All league mods" sounds fucking insane Imagine killing an Invasion bloodlines pack around a shrine which then spawns Beyond mobs that also have the 30% boost from Onslaught that get buffed by a Tormented Spirit :suicide:
Oh no, how did I miss the stash tab bundle being on sale until it's 1 hour left
Is zombie/spectre summoner alright to do at the start of a league? That's about the only thing I can think of to do. I've looked at some guides but for leveling they all seem to mention using things like Matuna Tapuna and using gems like multistrike as soon as you get to the required level. Also not sure when you can switch over and have it not be terrible.

I've played two different summoners in the last two leagues as my first character. Matuna Tapuna is definitely a nice shield, it's cheap, even in the beginning of a league. +2 Minion Level is amazing and will carry you to end-game or until you get a +2 helmet. Zombies work without Multistrike, but it definitely improves their DPS by a lot. You're still going to wreck everything having your zombie gem linked with minion damage / melee splash which is what I usually rock in my Matuna Tapuna until I get a helmet and a multistrike. Summoners are pretty slow in the beginning, until the expansion hits it's pretty hard to level with for the first two acts. But when you get a summoner up to late normal and early cruel they really start to shine in my opinion. Nothing beats being able to rock ~6 auras and mfing while smashing maps like they're nothing. Remember that Spectre scale to the level of mobs in a zone. I didn't know this for my first summoner so I would always go to Sceptre of God on normal and bitch when my Spectres got one shot in maps :v:.
I never played a summoner and I don't think I ever will. I just can't stand the idea of having to be reliable on AI to do damage for you, not to mention you contribute close to nothing in terms of clear speed when playing in groups.

Summoners can contribute, a lot. It's all dependant on which build you play, as there are a ton of different summoner builds out there. My favourite is low life with Solaris/Shavs with a Prism Guardian. Allowing you to have around 6 auras, all boosted with +X levels and all the aura nodes creates an incredibly powerful Summoner for group play. A character who can also solo more or less any non-unique map in-game with decent clear speed. Not to mention the fact that slapping 2/3 curses on the same character is pretty easy. And very easy to turn in to a decent group/solo MFing char. [editline]5th May 2015[/editline] I hope you're not basing your opinion from my first Summoner back in Rampage. Which I used to learn by trial and error and had horrendous clear speed.

Every pack was already dead before their zombies / spectres started attacking. Maybe it has good clear in solomaps or in pub groups but our standard group had 2 Mjölners, a low life spectral throw and a cleaver. Everytime a summoner joined we just carried their asses through the maps and sometimes their vaal skeletons tanked a boss, but that's about it. Many of them even left on their own because they said they couldn't keep up and were just running around a map.

But you shouldn't just base your opinion on a small number of Summoners. It's like saying all melee are terrible in groups or all casters are shit. Summoners is a broad term with a huge variety of playstyles within. You can easily build a Summoner which excels at group play and is a genuine asset to any group.

I don't have the absurdly expensive 1m+ DPS builds that can clear maps at a sprint. I've just never had much luck with drops to be able to afford them, so my build philosophies tend to be focused more on "slow and steady wins the race," which are easier to gear for. It just makes Mr feel bad or unwanted when I try to join up with groups and find that there's basically nothing I can offer.
Comparing a summoner build to a low life spec throw or mjolner (who both also probably had shavs) build isn't very fair or realistic either.
Most of my builds are largely self-found, with a small spattering of relatively inexpensive (a few exalts per item at most) upgrades once I get to the end-game content. Excepting a couple of nice donations from cool people, I'm basically a poor idiot dirtlord. I think I will start participating in the temporary leagues from now on, since we all start on equal footing and the cost of items is generally lower. In the beta, I've actually been using my currency as crafting materials since so many people are freely giving away the equipment they don't need, and it's a lot more fun! The sense of community is better because there is less point to hording stuff. Every time I get a better hand-me-down, I pass on my old equipment to a lower level player. Works nicely for everybody, and frees up your currency to be used for its primary purpose: crafting!
Alright, I've gotten high enough level in the beta and I have successfully tested what I wanted to test; lightning arrow is pretty good. I never used it before the buffs but it seems a lot better than it was. Not sure if it's better than tornado shot though. The single target is non-existent and 2% phys mana leech still isn't enough to sustain my mana, although I have terrible gear. Frenzy charges are pretty damn good now too.
TS is getting nerfed isn't it?
Problem fixed, just hit level 70 for the first time!
My biggest hurdle in beta has definitrly been a gem bottleneck. Most of the things you really need aren't available through quest rewards. I have none of my Endurance charge generation gems, and I don't have enough of the basics to set up both a single target and group DPS setup, forcing me to move gems around when I know a boss or tough rare is coming up. My cyclone DPS is okay, but without Endurance charges my survivability is really suffering! I was hoping to link Sweep to Stun, Endurance Charge on Stun, and possibly Melee Physical or increased AOE to have some semi-passive endurance charge generation (sweep and cyclone seem to transition really nicely into each other). A steady supply of Endurance charges makes a big difference! Also need Vengeance, curse on hit, increased AOE, and possibly Warlord's Mark. Or maybe Enfeeble would be better? Dunno what would increase my survivability more. All that is to say, I need gems! I hope they add that new gem vendor soon!
Yeah, right now the beta is pretty bad for gems... I don't think you get any gems after normal :v: The gem vendor thing sounds cool, wonder how that's going to work. [editline]7th May 2015[/editline] Update on Deterministic Lockstep
So the beta got an interesting update. Aura reservations got reduced:
Several Aura reservations costs have been reduced.
But reduced mana no longer affects auras:
Reduced Mana now no longer affects the mana cost multiplier, it just has reduced mana cost stat & Quality (so will not affect Aura reservations).
60% auras went to 50%, 40% to 35%, heralds in the beta were 30% and now they're 25% again. Dunno about clarity.
I think I managed to get my younger sister hooked on Path of Exile. She's doing pretty okay at it too.
