People like personalization and if you give them options for that most will be more than happy to put out quite a bit for it because it will make the characters more their own. And most people tend to like flashy stuff. I don't like the lootbox aspect of it, but the cost for the Halloween skins certainly didn't bother me. I mean fuck gliders are much worse in terms of cost for something that will either only be seen briefly while you are gliding (which is less these days with mounts), or if you get one that has a backpack skin included which usually costs even more. Compared to mounts which do far more, can be kept out continuously, and basically have more presence overall? Fuck, that may as well be a bargain for the Halloween skins. So I mean if they weren't shoved in stupid lootboxes, it'd not be that bad. Now an argument can of course be made that outfits and glider skins should come down in price, but I was expecting individual mount skins to be closer to $10, certainly not equivalent to gliders. [editline]9th November 2017[/editline] This, however, is fucking absurd: [t]https://i.imgur.com/zZnSDd8.png[/t]
Yeah, is it still a thing I'm just finishing up installing all the drivers (though it looks like I might have to live without sound until I get monies for a headset with a longer cord) and am today or tomorrow getting back to the game?
yeah I saw an advert for PoF literally everytime I opened Facebook so I decided to jump back in again pretty much
I was more bothered that the Hallowe'en skins were just those lame glow-in-the-dark skeleton designs, but hopefully they introduce model changes next year or for Wintersday. Like with Santa hats. also the Vanilla forum software that ArenaNet uses supports quotes to nest 11 times rofl

the part that has me more frustrated is that I like a vast majority of the new skins and, given I knew I could afford it, PROBABLY would give in and get the bundle, but I refuse to consider it til the RNG bullshit is sorted out. The business decision as a whole reeks and I don't want to reward it as it stands but also goddamn knowing it's $120 worth of gems I'm looking at a lot of other more tangible things I could buy for that
The thing is, finding a skin too expensive (I also think it's ridiculously overpriced) is one thing, but at least you know what you get for that price, it's just up to you to judge if it's worth your cash or not, the rng thing is a different beast entirely.
I don't think it would be as bad if they offered the skins for 400 Gems each on the store directly, instead of hiding them in this RNG bullshit. Remove the time limit as well. I'd be more inclined to buy maybe 1 or 2 that way, but with the current system - I'm just going to buy a Switch with my money instead.
tbh the mount box would be fine if they also offered something like a 700 gem ticket to pick what which you want, or had guaranteed mount type (jackal rolls only, griffon only, etc.) tickets. Or had a 200 gem "unlock all dye channels for mounts" purchase for the base skin. Basically there's a billion reasonable solutions they could've used in conjunction with this, yet they just decided to go pants-on-head instead.

If every mount skin from now on is an over the top, flashy 2000 gem thing then thats even worse.

I mean, I can definitely see some people going "Oh well that's not so bad then. If it's not going to be something that happens all the time then I have no problem with it now." I do hope I'm just being overly negative and they really do take the backlash to heart though.
If they're not actually going to change the mount licenses themselves, they've missed the point of a lot of the criticism. The fact that Mo says they plan to continue monetization of mount skins in a similar vein to the Reforged Hound and the halloween bundle isn't promising, given one is overpriced and one doesn't let you buy individual skins.

What a load of shit this response is. "Yeah, our bad, we released lootboxes at an unfortunate time and should have released them later, oops!".
What a load of shit this response is. "Yeah, our bad, we released lootboxes at an unfortunate time and should have released them later, oops!".
Thank fuck Jim Sterling made a video about this too. It's now cemented in history that during the shitstorm of lootbox controvesies(CoD WW2 and even worse - Battlefront 2) ANet thought it was ok. Also, I much prefer having skins similar to Forged Jackal that arent too flashy(unlike some specific Griffon skin) and cost a lot, because a friend of mine told me that WoW mount skins are p expensive anyway, ranging at £20 which is roughly the same amount as Forged Jackal. Except that you can convert gems to gold, ofc.
MO's response was a complete joke, hopefully the backlash ball keeps rolling until they're forced to remove this.
Guys what the fuck is going on this week? EA have acquired Respawn, EA made new NFS and SW BF2 a complete shitfest because of microtransactions, and ANet adds fucking lootboxes for mount skins?
I just want them to cut it out, I want to like ANet and I want them to succeed for the future of GW2 but not like this, I'm not even hyped for the next living world update anymore.
PoF's smooth launch and warm reception was enough to get a lot of people and press excited for the game for the first time in years. Adding Loot Boxes and refusing to remove them destroyed all of that. gg
They're not going to remove them because people have already put money in to them, and that would kick off an entire new shitstorm over their removal because people who put money in to getting what they wanted would absolutely not be ok with others getting them easier. Else if they were removed entirely people would be pissed they can't get them at all. So of course they're not removing it, even if they're shit.
I dont see why they wouldn't change the adoption licenses to where you just pick which mount skin you want instead of it being random. If thats how it was before and it was like a Black Lion claim ticket, but for mount skins i would have an issue with it.
The statement is rather silly to say the least...I'm very disappointed in this situation and I will hope it won't repeat.
He literally said it's not going to happen again. Did you even read it? I guess I'll throw my oar in too. I literally don't care about it, the company has to make money. I bought one and that's all I'm going to buy. Sure, it's shitty and they should've been way cheaper. But honestly you get all the skins if you really want to since there's no duplicates. What's to say you HAVE to get them all at once or keep buying them at all. I realise that people want specific skins and it shouldn't have been done this way, but even if they were single skins they would've been around the same price. I really hate it when people jump on the hate bangwagon without actually thinking about why first. I suppose I should ignore it but it's extremely difficult to do.
So uh, I've played like 400 hours on this game. Solo. I've only done one dungeon, never done PvP, raids, guild raids, Fractals. So if anyone wants to do that with a complete novice gimme a shout (also I don't know if the guilds just really inactive now or I got missed, but I still haven't been invited) And do you guys ever do any of the Guild Missions?
And do you guys ever do any of the Guild Missions?
Once in a blue moon if I feel like crafting more shimmering/tenebrous weapons.
Once in a blue moon if I feel like crafting more shimmering/tenebrous weapons.
I think he meant does the FP guild run guild missions. In which case no.

I ended up spending $40 before I got it and afterwards I had to step back and stop myself. I realized that the onus is on me for not spending that much, but it's also on Anet and other companies to not use practices that take advantage of people who either don't know better or have poor self control. Yes they need to make money, but they could make money in less scummy ways.
i made a reddit post on someones QoL changes for the copper-fed salvage kit, and i got the most astonishingly baffling reply i've ever recieved... from gale gray, the community manager i have no idea why he even replied considering his reply has nothing at all to do with my suggestions https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/7cgkec/qol_suggestion_for_salvage_all/dpq4qry/
Oh, that was you? I made this reply from my alt account (used for posting controversial comments) but I expected it to get downvoted! Yeah, Gaile always makes the worst comments.
i dont care if it was behind a mastery line, i wish there was an automatic deposit material function so as soon as i salvaged, or mined, or just opened bags that contained mats, if my mat storage had space, would automatically place it in the storage. im still baffled at the fact the fucking COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER completely misread my message in that QoL thread on reddit. it took me by complete surprise, i was not expecting at all to even get a reply in that thread, all i did was quickly shit out my idea in that post during one of my lunch breaks as i was browsing. when i got home and read the replies and gales completely baffling response i felt like i was having a fever dream or something. it was unreal, getting this completely unrelated reply from one of the people who works at this company that made this game that i put so much time and money into, just to get a response like this. [T]http://s18.postimg.org/jkebzfuix/chrome_2017-11-13_00-58-00.png[/T] i dont understand how this happens? surely as the communications manager you would, like, you know, proofread the thing your about to post on a public forum? what a fucking rollercoaster, especially after all this other controversy going around right now with the damn adoption contracts i know im being a bit bitchy and overdramatic but this makes me feel uncertain and weird, and a bit offended to be honest. its like she turned her miscommunication into a shitty little advertisement. i hate it

They probably did read your post, because to me it just comes off as a shill reply in the context of "I'm satisfied with it so I don't see the issue with its current behavior".
well this entire thing has left me incredibly dissatisfied to say the least
I remember that one time a little before HoT, some guy was complaining about profession balance with an ANet employee in silverwastes map chat, I don't remember if it was gaile but even though the guy complaining was a little rude about it they still had legitimate points about the state of the game and all the employee could do in return was being dismissive and at some point ended the argument with the classic "if you don't like how we work on the game then why don't you study for game development and fix the issue yourself?". That reply along with constant disregard towards feedback (especially WvW), esports being forced into the game, ANet literally being afraid of their own forums, it really shows that this isn't just a need for improvement pertaining to handling feedback but more a deep-seated issue with ANet wanting to cater the game to themselves rather than putting enough effort to try to please as many people as they can. I really do love the shit out of this game, and I really don't think there's any other MMO that could top what I think of GW2, but the way ANet just persistently shits on feedback/criticism really puts me off and I have a really hard time getting back to the game with what seems to be zero enthusiasm with keeping some sort of positive image for the sake of the game.
