I worked up Max so hard I had Road Warrior before breaching the jaw.
Shit goes waaay too fast once you get the V8 (main story missions wise) and now I don't know if I've screwed myself out of a side mission or not. I'm not going to go into details, but now I'm going to clear everything else before touching the main missions again.

You can continue after the end and finish any missions you missed.

I think I know what moment you are talking about, and don't worry, you will still be able to complete all sidemissions.
This game is a lot of work but I'm going to get the 100 percent. After 40 hours I completed it 50 percent.
What bothers me is that the "Maximum" achievement is not called "Max Max" - a wasted opportunity.

So I've been roaming the Blackmaws region to try and get the level 2 grinders, but I can't find whatever it is I need to clear the threat from there. I can't see anything from the balloons, and nothing's on my map, but it still isn't considered cleared. Anyone else have this issue?

You've probably got a minefield to clear.
Is anybody else sick of the 3 armored cars that constantly bully you in gas town?
Its so small there that these 3 chumps respawn constantly and make it impossible to get anything done

I got there without a trainer. It makes me really want to try exploring around because I feel like the Big Nothing is full of all kinds of bizarreness.

There are a few places where the map extends out ridiculously far into the big nothing without the warning appearing. I doubt you can find any of the truly bizarre stuff without using a trainer to venture into the rest though.

I really like how the strongholds interact with each other through the wasteland missions.
If you get Jeet what he needs to make ammo, people in other strongholds start talking about it, and a later mission for Jeet enables ammo bench in Gutgash's and Pink Eye's strongholds.
