Heard some pretty bad things about this game but decided to get it anyway, so surprised at how good it actually is.
Really enjoyed it, it's actually made me think I shouldn't pay attention to reviews so much.

Especially when said reviews trash a game years in development because it didn't borrow more from a movie released not even a year ago or because it was released on the same day as Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
it's not a bad game at all, just gets boring over time.
The game has a very strong framework, just a shame they didnt do more to it. Just imagine if they had half a year more to develop gameplay elements for it

A lot of the reviews were trashing the game for stupid reasons or comparing it negatively to MGS V (which actually does a few things worse than Mad Max imo, but that's mostly irrelevant anyway since they're not the same kind of game). The game is far from perfect but it's hardly the garbage some people were calling it.
Personally I haven't paid any attention to video game "journalism" for years now. It's a cesspit of stupidity and blatant corruption.
I got my money's worth out of it, around 20 something hours. I think I hit the wall, though. I haven't finished the story but I'm bored of the gameplay, ended up uninstalling it. I'm glad I got it for about $30, I wouldn't have wanted to pay $60 for it.
It's really a shame about the lifetime of the game, because the location design is some of the best I've ever seen.
Every single location is different and interesting, which is quite an achievement for a game like this.
I wish the on foot gameplay was a bit less clunky, I get annoyed having to go around on foot, and I end up only really wanting to do the vehicle stuff.
A lot of people complained about the game not doing something spectacularly innovating or that it just did what others have already done. True as that may be, I wasn't looking for it to be an paradigm shifter or the like, I was looking for a solid, fun game. Mad Max absolutely delivered on that, it is very solid and, if you're looking at it for what it is, really fun.

I think the sprinting speed could have been upped, maybe upgrade max with better booties?
But yeah the hand to hand is a little janky and the camera doesn't help
I was disappointed when I first heard the game would have Arkham style combat and the final results didn't really impress. Max isn't supposed to be a force of nature and in the movies he's seen running/driving away from large groups of people more often than charging them head-on.
A system like The Last of Us where you can relatively easily fight one, maybe two dudes but any more and you'll get fucked would have worked better.
If this game were anything like The Last of Us, I'd have refunded it almost immediately.
Yeah instead it borrows an already overdone system from a game that everybody's borrowing from since its release in 2009.

An open world Last of Us would be fucking amazing though

Can we just stop this wave of hardened dicks for open world games?
Not every videogame concept can be successfully adapted in an open world formula
Bro just say boner, hardened dick sounds like a dick turn to stone or something.

lies
every game can be made better by making it open world
think of how great a star wars game would be if you could physically fly off and land on another planet? even go through hyperspace all on one map?
p.s. space engineers will be doing this once they add planets.

Not every game can, but Last of Us totally can.

No, because the level design is one of the main charm of the game, and the transiction to open world would bring worsened environments and design
It'd be entirely possible for the mechanics of TLoU to work in an open world, but the environmental design would suffer in that it would be much less focused. TLoU's stealth works because the levels are so thought through, you'd lose that quality when you scale it up
TLoU would only work in a restricted linear environment but the combat was pretty solid despite being really simple so I'd love to see more of that in other games.
so this game finally runs smooth on my comp
i have a question
1. why isn't the ripper available to buy?
2. how did i get all this car dlc, i got the standard edition of the game, was it given out for free?
3. are there any plans for future content?
Got this game a week ago and somehow despite it's repetitive nature, I really do enjoy it. It's just a nice game to play from time to time and very immersive.
Although I wish there was some more variation in the melee combat and that camps would be less linear.
The world itself in this game is absolutely gorgeous. Running it on max here. It's so pretty.
Seeing this thread pop up again reminded me two things.
1. I haven't beaten this game yet and need to
2. Didn't they have plans for DLC for it? What happened to that?

i looked into it, seems like the devs dropped all dlc support to focus on just cause 3, but are still providing technical support, hence the game running like water on my laptop now as opposed to launch.
i just hope we can get something in the future.
So I played a few hours but I don't know the game doesn't captivate me. The first few missions are really bland IMO. Also they have a really pretty wasteland and then they add in a fucking depth of field blur that makes no sense at all and you can't enjoy the view because of it. Human eyes can focus on infinity!
I don't have any DoF problems personally
[editline]14th January 2016[/editline]
But yeah it does get repetitive
I mainly played this game in short bursts
[editline]14th January 2016[/editline]
And yeah, when the fuck are they going to release DLCs that aren't Rockstar races?

this game is best served in small doses and just exploring the map on your own, doing only enough missions to get some decent stuff for your car
the most fun i've have is when i just pop on for 5-10 minutes. history relics are kinda neat too
taking down a convoy in first person mode can be seriously adrenaline pumping tho
