Forget GTA V. BeamNG is going to be released in less than 24 hours!
As much as I would love a hardcore, punishing, realistic car chase game, the masses that GTA is marketed towards, wouldn't.
The first thing I'm doing when GTAV comes out on PC is making the cars impossible to drive and able to be immobilized by mounting a curb the wrong way.
Please do add me to your group of [del]beta[/del] alpha testers.
Loving my new g27, can't wait for force feedback and realistic gearing to be added to Drive. I started up RoR for the first time since Drive released just to play with ff and holy shit does Drive put ror's physics to shame. It really made ror's driving feel like an arcade game. Although, without the force feedback, I have more fun playing Drive with a 360 controller than I do with my wheel.
The cars seem to be lacking something since the change from cry engine to the current one.

Well, the dirt textures are gone, pending a dynamic dirt system we plan to eventually add. Also, currently there are no proper dynamic cubemaps (reflections). Also, CryEngine has much nicer ambient lighting/global illumination (but it costs $1,200,000)
the sound system is pretty much placeholder though, no?

Do you think it would be possible to implement your physics engine into unity? Like if you bought the source and had access to everything, not like an asset. (Though an asset would be nice)
what i REALLY want in beamng and i think it'd make a huge impact relative to its probable implementation difficulty is surface-specific sounds
Don't worry, it's been planned for ages; it's just a matter of coding it (and also recording the rest of the sounds). Like lexus04 said, the sound system is placeholder.

Right now we're focusing on BeamNG.drive on the Torque3D engine, but we do have plans to release a physics SDK for other engines some time in the future, maybe in 2014.
This thread could fancy a new title!

Technically a negative number of hours is still less than 24 hours
any way to change the FOV?
any way to change the FOV?
You could edit the FOV for each camera in each individual vehicle... though that'd be a real pain in the ass. We'll probably add a global slider in the menu at some point.
Bolide GTR on the upcoming East Coast US terrain (going 120 mph in this pic). 0-60 in 3.8 seconds and surprisingly drivable. Going to add a wing too.

Also improved the regular Bolide's veering problem and added a detuned engine option.

my problem with the current settings is that with the fov setting as low as it is you can't really adequately feel the speed you're going at. 120mph feels like 40mph from the inside cam just for that reason at the moment.
also it would be really cool if you adjust the camera position for the interior view, like in LFS for example. I really feel like moving the camera up a tad when offroading

Oh dear god its like you've managed to penetrate my brain and extract my dreams of blatting a red Italian supercar down a forested coastal highway.
Nothing has been this awesome since Need for Speed SE.

Neat, but what about the camera problem
Does BeamNG stand for Beam Node Graph?
does this game have a red 2003 sunfire pontiac or similar?
I drive one.

Beam Next Generation actually

It just needs to be hideous and American made, and you've got it.

Not up to me to fix it. I'm not a programmer, and our two programmers are very busy with real life/business stuff right now.

Open the console (@ or tilde, depends on your keyboard).
Type in:
setfov (30)
or whatever number, those are in degrees.
Also:

It's a bit noisy

since it's was ingame, with about 6 or more lamps.
I'm waiting for dynamic cubemaps.
Is your framerate still in double digits?

only works for free camera :c
I made a crash picture

Also, race update inbound soon, with lots of improvements to vehicles and a lap timing system/online leaderboards. Also making good progress on the big semi truck (Gavril T75).
i am excited
So I would think it could go something like this;
Time Trials on Small Island, USA
Post your best time; video evidence (required? or should it be just honor system)
[t]http://i.imgur.com/C1e0uwF.jpg[/t]
The black just happens to be the natural spawn point for the level so, easy start.
Probably should mention that creating spawn points shouldn't be allowed, the run must be completed in one go
oh shit, we need a specific car too
I just got BeamNG and this rally looked like fun. I didn't use the preset car so I guess this doesn't count (also I'm late as hell), but I like having to deal with oversteer, because it makes it more difficult. So here it is, my 1:00.71 lap with TWO (!) well-executed handbrake turns, in my modded "crown vic" (I forget what it's called) which means it has no body panels. Gotta save weight!

We managed to improve FPS with multiple vehicles by 20-25%. For the next update. ETA in a month or so, maybe longer. Also lots of other vehicle updates.
Also here's a crashed semi truck (early WIP, no textures yet, lots of parts missing)

Also the Bolide with no body is now a functioning vehicle (barely) and it's fun as heck

I would pay good money for a DMC DeLorean in this
I would pay good money for a DMC DeLorean in this
Define "good money"? I'd be happy to make the car for the right price (it'd be like 100-200 hours of labor, but I do have a scale model of a DeLorean, so there's that)
