Forget GTA V. BeamNG is going to be released in less than 24 hours!

y'all might be forgetting that it's still early access so yeah no shit there's no varied engine sounds etc

Found out you can have AI drivers so I set up some police chases on the East Coast map. This was the result of a 110 mph pit maneuver.

Someone hack me a way to return the current engine as a string (I'm lazy/busy atm) and I'll do this for every car.

I can't wait until the sound engine is better.
What's a good place to get mods and cars from?
http://www.worldofmods.com/beamng/ is the site I use but the forum apparently hates russian modders for the game.
Is the game worth getting right now? Does it have any replay value? I dislike racing games, however, BeamNG sounds fun and alpha was pretty good. I've also got pretty weak PC.

I mainly use the official forums, lots of mods there.

That depends on you, and you only.
I mess around with it now and then pretty consistently.

Ouch. How weak exactly? Tell me what CPU and GPU you've got.
Physics performance has improved greatly from when the game was in alpha, so if it ran fine then it SHOULD run better now.

It's not worth it unless you want to create content for or with it.
There are some basic point to point time races but thats all there is to gameplay right now.
It's nice to jump in and watch cars crash from time to time but there really isn't much to do.

Ouch.
No promises. Might not run very well.

Alright, I'll just wait for a version with proper gameplay then. Thanks!

The core idea is in place. This isn't supposed to be a racing game, it's supposed to be a driving game. And that, it can already do.
Beware: The performance won't really improve. This game runs its physics engine at 2000 ticks a second, whereas most games run it at 60. Without help from GPU manufacturers or an optimized compiler, that's going to hamper performance.
Really happy with how often this game has been updating as of late.
Updates used to be slow, but now it's like every week!
is Multiplayer going to be a thing any time soon?

Likely never over internet or LAN because of the low latency tolerance and massive amounts of data being sent.
Split-screen is a possibility.
Alternatively it could be done online if you disabled inter-vehicle collisions, just like how it was done in Rigs of Rods.

It did in single player.
Did it in multiplayer? I'm fairly sure the lack of it in multiplayer was what made it possible in the first place.
If it was enabled in multiplayer, I can understand why it was quickly removed, as the collision system surely can't really like latency that much.
contactable surfaces had collisions for a while and it worked just fine, honestly not sure why it was removed again.
I remember driving into the back of someone's plane and being flown around on the desert map. I think that's a testament to feasibility if anything.
Also I fell out after about 30 seconds and turned into a vortex of vertexes upon hitting the ground.
Ahhh I remeber flying the Antonov in RoR, only to have it turn to a big weird ball of strings later

RoR had locking between joints on different vehicles (as in, fasten your car in the cargo bay), but I think the actual collisions shut down once there were too many interactions per tick (e.g. when both vehicles were moving).

one of the recent patches BeamNG has added a toggle for inter-vehicle collisions from what I've read.
Could have it forced off by default?

According to the patchnotes, yes. But only if your computer is performing below a certain threshold.
Is the game running poorly on anyone else's computer? Just tried playing again today and its running terribly.

Well that's probably because of your computer.
What's your specifications?

The last time I played the game, it used to run perfectly.
GTX 670
i7 - 4770k @3.5GHz
8 GB RAM

Ok that's sort of odd.
What sort of settings do you have enabled in-game?
Disabling Ambient Occlusion and Dynamic Reflections should help a lot on performance.
Is this the only game you're experiencing a performance decrease in?
To make sure, you could run the Passmark benchmark and provide me the results.
I'm recommending this because a friend of mine actually had a sudden decrease of performance across his whole system, and he also had an i7 (3770K though) and a GTX 670.
In his case, both the CPU and the GPU for some reason performed nearly exactly 50% of what they were supposed to!
We solved his problem by dusting out of his computer and reseating a lot of the components, even though we could not actually see much dust. Still not sure what exactly was going on with that, as temperatures weren't high.

I downloaded Passmark, ran and it told me that power saver was on, forgot about that. Turned High Performance on and the game ran perfect. Thanks for all the help anyways!

I can't wait until the sound engine is better.
Unless that's a typo, there's nothing wrong with the sound engine.
I pooped this out in a weekend, forever ago. I'll revisit it if I can get better recordings and ones for every engine. It's still in need of a load of tweaking.
