• So it looks like Facepunch's next sandbox game (potentially Garrysmod 2) is gonna be in UE4

Why didn't you guys use Unity?
I guess the team is just more comfortable with using UE4. Honestly you could make the same thing in Unity, but since they've already stated that the end-user won't have to download the UE4/Unity editor to do modding, they won't really need to know or care about what engine the game is built upon.

Keep in mind that Rust is in Unity, and so Garry & the crew probably has deeper knowledge of Unity than UE4.
We'd be limited by what Unity has exposed, with Unreal we can do whatever we want. It's a no brainer to me.
I would love to see an in-game character creator, like so: maybe i'm asking too much...
We're not too worried about physics. It's relatively easy to put our own physics engine in there if PhysX doesn't work out. We haven't had any problems with physx right now, but there's a lot to be said in favour of bullet.
How does AMD handle PhysX these days? My understanding is that it's vendor-independent, but still much better on Nvidia.
Why didn't you guys use Unity?
With how much I've seen Garry complain about Unity on his Twitter, I'm honestly not surprised that they eventually went with UE4. As far as I know, the only thing that Garry seemed to prefer from Unity was coding in C#, but they already moved all of that over to UE4, so...

It's kind of a common misconception that PhysX is exclusively this GPU thing that only runs on Nvidia, even though tons and tons of games use PhysX - from PS4 games to Nintendo DS games. Basically it won't matter what brand of CPU / GPU you have. (unless they actually decide to use GPU acceleration, but I don't really see that happening)
wait wouldnt the physics engine stuff allow people to make or utilize something like breakable environments but on an actually good scale e.g. shooting through walls and shattering bricks and all that
Are there any plans to bring Silverlan onboard? Pragma is pretty much this as far as I'm aware, has many features already implemented, and it's already publicly available but still in development.

There's a lot of annoyances in UE4 too - but I'm not qualified enough to bitch to that extent yet. Unity would have been a good fit for us too, but there are some roadblocks. Would we have wanted to build a c# layer on top of a c# layer, etc?

Hold for options. Hold for More Options. wat
Hold for options. Hold for More Options. wat
Oh come on, don't be obtuse. It's like you never half-pressed an A on your controller before.

Make them buy Rust for the Rust Content and we make Rust mod in s&box to play rust Also I can't wait for 50GB Contents pack for single Roleplay Server lol putting 4k textures to small model for no fucking reason
Also I can't wait for 50GB Contents pack for single Roleplay Server lol putting 4k textures to small model for no fucking reason
Join 5 servers and have over half your hard drive filled up. Truly living the dream.
I would make Nutscript 2.0 for the new s&box if it ever comes out, but I'm having bad feelings about all unoptimized/uncontrolled stuffs on workshops. Especially Dupes.
i think a nutscript-esque framework benefits a lot more from ue4 which has a lot more native customizability to begin with itd be grand to see something like it in s&box if it ever comes out before clunkwork does it first
So, are we going to expect an official FP run "s&boxstore" that acts like gmodstore or is it going to be community driven like it currently is? Or is the answer still "its a prototype" Because i'd at least like to start a discussion on this bullshit because if the game really kicks off we all know people will create marketplaces selling content / scripts
i hope selling scripts doesn't become a thing again
Pack your stuff boys, ya got outcompeted https://twitter.com/Sosowski/status/910139183070629888
Could s&box have added VR support?! :o
i hope selling scripts doesn't become a thing again
Of course it will, is there any difference between the concept of selling a script, or designing a logo for someone, or building a website? There's nothing inherently wrong with wanting to sell one's work, and generally speaking people love not having to do something, especially if they could just buy it. I mean that's basically the number one reason micro-transactions even exist. :v:

Since it's a prototype we haven't worked out the finer details of how we'll rip you off yet.
Since it's a prototype we haven't worked out the finer details of how we'll rip you off yet.
Make pay-4-admin a default feature that's always enabled, and take a cut.
i hope selling scripts doesn't become a thing again
Would be quite depressing if it attracts the exact same sort of community Gmod has in it's later years. [editline]20th September 2017[/editline] If I could be arsed i'd code some stuff myself, but at the moment i'm focused on getting through the nightmare that is embedded software.
