So what's the plan with assets for average users for, say, the actual sandbox portion of the game? Will you guys eventually be hiring artists and modelers to make a suite of general-use props and maps and textures that users can use, or will we have to go out of our way to install our own content (like from Half-Life 2) or buy specialized content packs from you (like Unity's store?)
Will you just be selling the game just as a developer tool with no assets included, or will there be stuff there for people looking for a Garry's Mod 2 sandbox experience?
i would like to see a community project where people can send in models, materials and sounds they made that look real like stuff from most source games.
but i think licensing of artwork (regarding contributors credits, allowed to reuse etc.) and having people that upload stolen stuff would be a big problem.
not sure if something like that would be suitable for being implemented in a commercial product/game.
if not, it would be a "must have" addon like PHX in gmod10.
i definately would make a bunch of content for *cough* gmod2.
there are another 4000 hours waiting to be wasted in a game i like more than anything else.

As far as I've heard there's going to be importers in the game that take assets from other games very easily. That way you work around the issue that you'd get if you just took assets from another game and ship it with S&B. Now you could argue that the average Joe finds this too much work but if you think about it. Garry's Mod never shipped with CSS content, you had to get the game and then click a button in your main menu to 'import' that content. That way people will have to buy the game before seeing the content so the game devs of the others games are fine with it, and you've solved the issue of having a sandbox game lacking content. But now we've fallen back to the classic old issue...

S&box must have PHX like stuffs and re-done Default Spawnlist models in gmod.
without it, new sandbox is just roblox.

It doesn't have to be like GMod in this way.

I'm sure it won't be hard to port PHX and some custom construction model packs to S&Box when it's later in development

I was actually thinking about this. Any assets they've made for all Facepunch studio games could easily just be ported in with no problem as their official base prop selection.
But I wouldn't mind to have all of the Half-life 2 models remade. Perhaps a bit too much to hope for.
What about NPCs? I always wanted to recreate STALKER's A-Life in GMod, but I don't know how to code. This whole project motivates me to start learning haha, just asking.

It's not a lot but Rust props would be cool. I think especially with the new launch site they've got a fair collection of props to work with.

I'd love to have Rust as a "base" like hl2 is in terms of props and content but that would require garry/fp wanting to give people access to that content.
Maybe, before the release, We can do some kind of Community S&box jam, really good contents will be included in official release of s&box or something

I always find it cool when you can play fully emulated old games on an in-game object. Timesplitters: Future Perfect even had interactive PC screens with screensavers and it was a PS2 game.
I wonder if you could have something more complicated than doom/wolf run inside another game on a screen than without just having it be another part of the game level. Like dos-box or a sega genesis game which is synchronized between connected players. Could be cool to pass-and-play games within a construct like that but its probably not feasible.

You absolutely could, but it's a lot of work for something that will just exist as a screen somewhere. Might as well put that effort into something that actually interacts with the rest of the game.
