So it looks like Facepunch's next sandbox game (potentially Garrysmod 2) is gonna be in UE4

We don't own the assets from the Source games, so, no.
Will clients be downloading server code? Can you choose not to send a file to the clients?

It's a prototype, we can't answer these questions yet. Ideally clients don't download any code from the server.
So will there be some system like "This server is using the following games: rust, garrysmod, bulletstorm" and clients will be recommended to mount those games to join?

It's a prototype.
It's a prototype.
Any chance this could be included in the "Facepunch Prototypes" at some point in development?
Assuming it gets released, and we let people make mods.
please remove the word assuming from this sentence and I'll be very happy

I'm not sure they ever update that anymore.
will there be some sort of visual programming thing like scratch or blueprints for the dummy users like me?

I don't think so, I think they're keeping it Old school, a lot like the current format of Garry's Mod - there's addons, gamemodes, and a lot of raw files. I like it.

c# isn't that hard

If you dont know how to program at all it'll be hard for a newbie

C# syntax is easy is what he means to say I believe, so yeah.

just think, if you start learning now you'll probably be more than knowledgeable enough when s&box releases.
visual programming, while novel and educational, is an incredibly inefficient use of your time. you can get 10 times the amount of work done writing traditional code.

There shouldn't be any problem importing the data by default though (assuming you own HL2). As long as the content isn't shipping but imported I don't think Valve will do anything about it.
With that in mind, it would be cool if you guys also supported nav meshes (related to the bots in the videos posted), maybe get some L4D support too
Let's not forget that it's not uncommon for projects to be dropped.
There's almost 10 games that have been completely listed as 'Abandoned' on the main website.
My hopes are high though; I love the amount of dedication that goes into Facepunch games!
PS: Any speak of hotloading models/source *.mdl files? (I don't mean shipping the game with source assets, but the ability to load them)

even though its this early to know if the engines solid, do you think UE looks possibly promising? If not UE, will you be looking into other engines aside from Unity (Since that one would be an obvious answer)?

To be fair, I don't think they would've decided on UE4 without knowing it's possibilities and limitations compared to Unity. (Just my speculation though)
So Garry how involved are you in this? Are you leading the development or just letting your interns try and make something like gmod?
lmao interns
You guys should definitely reach out too the folks behind some of the popular GMod mods, and work side by side with them to make vanilla addons/gamemodes for launch.
- SProps
- ACF
- Precision Alignment
- Wiremod
Just a few things that come to mind for building in general. Hell, you might be able to talk to the folks at Tripwire about having some of their stuff mounted IG.
If it gets to that point we will definitely be giving access to content creators first
Should just give stuff to me, I'm a reliable user and well respected member of this forum who posts quality content on a regular basis.
i like that everyone's assuming that this is garry's mod 2
goes to show how much demand for that there is
There's only so much you can do on source, but the majority of people don't want to have to make their own game for big projects

Tower unite did pretty well for themselves but they did have a pretty unique idea, a strong community and enough to mean they could get away with a standalone game.
I know it's a prototype but are there any plans on multi-platform support? I know for a fact UE4 can export to Mac and Linux (and the editor has a linux version) but will builds be exported for said platforms?
Guess we gotta consider this like the Arcade project they launched a while ago where you could play ROMs in a virtual envoirment
I love the hot loading, pure c# system - I hope to see it eventually get released.
Goodbye YTB videos "How to setup a dedicated Gmod Server in 1 min!":badzing:
How does Lua compare to C#?
