That's not why they're doing it. They've built out an almost complete set of voicelines for Locke to replace Bain as the VO objective indicator, though many of them aren't used in the new heist.
Oh, I know. I just hoped to rationalize it to myself in the hopes that we can still enjoy dickhead Locke as our mission control.
I dunno, I read it more as him dropping the smart-arse attitude in the face of a crisis. It's not uncommon for people to stop acting their usual selves, and become deadly serious when the midden hits the windmill.
[sp]The same applied for Bain, really - although it's not the smart-arse attitude in his case. Throughout Day 1 of the RD Heist, you can notice that Bain's unsure of what's happening by listening to the tone of his voice. In the vast majority of heists, where he is the mission control, Bain tends to be expressive, while also collected and focused on the job. RD Heist D1, however, has him downright stumbled by the situation. He's surprised by strange security measures and he only reacts with a dissonant "oh, well then." voice when Mr Blonde forgets to bring the liquid nitrogen from the car - almost like his mind is somewhere else, trying to comprehend why everything that could have gone wrong, did.
Not to mention his outro monologue, which serves as a great mood whiplash. We hear Bain completely lose his marbles in the face of imminent danger. He's usually hidden behind the scenes, taking care of the gang's safety, dealing with things from far away. In this heist though? The enemy is right at the gates, literally at his location; Bain is in direct danger of being either caught or killed.
It works as a player punch pretty well, too. Remember all those times we pulled through against all odds? Came out of deadly ambushes more than once? Removed all evidence on us and got rid of all uncomfortable witnesses? This is the one time we really can't do anything, and it's the worst possible time and possibility at that.
Initially I used to be confused by why we were presented with D2 before D1 (not that I disliked it; I kind of like anachronism and 'in medias res' in storytelling). After playing the entire heist, however, I think that it really couldn't have been done any other way. The heist wouldn't have as much of an impact if we were to play the big twist first - D2 just pales in comparison to how frantic and dramatic D1 is.
I wonder what happens now. I kind of think the Butcher might be the traitor, but I don't know why she would sell the gang out, herself having been set up as part of the scheme, and also giving the gang so much stuff.[/sp]

[sp]Well, we don't actually know that the Butcher was set up as well. Either she could have known of the plan too and played along, or else she could be the traitor but didn't actually reveal herself as such, and Locke took that moment to try and take the blame for it to keep the plan going.[/sp]
I don't mind buffing LMGs to be more "meta" but nerfing GLs is just a dumb move.
Haven't played yet but hope my GL40+Bronco build still good up to Mayhem.
[sp]I'm thinking the Elephant is definitely involved. He's a career politician who is very happy to play to dirty at any opportunity and has no loyalties to others. Also with the references in the first Garrett email.[/sp]
It sounds like the ambush wasn't locke's idea at all and was just lying in wait when he arrived. Maybe. Even though he gets into an FBI car after standing right next to a bunch of cops. Locke having ties to the Garnet Group was also dropped out of nowhere. There are a lot of problems with the whole business.

The GL nerf does nothing really. I'm not sure why they even bothered with that.

I'd say one of the bigger questions is [sp]Why did Bain trust Locke explicitly over everyone else? Not even someone like Vlad whom they actually have a fairly close relationship with, or maybe the Dentist who helped them free Hoxton (phone autocorrected him to "Boston"). I mean Locke was only brought in because he actually was able to break in to Crime.net to make direct contact with them. How did he get Bain's trust on such a level so quickly?[/sp]
wow reservoir dogs is unironically one of the best heists in the game, what the fuck
amazing soundtrack, 2 days are varied, open ended that a variety of builds work really well, actually incorporates lore, feels like a classic "The Heist" atmosphere of based on an action movie, actually pays well and was surprisingly challenging on Mayhem / Death Wish
this update feels like an apology for adding Ethan into the game
So....are we still getting our annual christmas heist too?

Maybe the person that broke into Crime.net was the trustiest person out of everyone.

[sp]If Locke is to be believed he was read into Bain's plan for the "Holy Grail" or whatever. Locke could've been aware of the shit coming for the gang and just got the crew out of DC without telling Bain fully, but maybe reestablished contact with Bain after. Bain says "We need to talk about Locke" before the new heist so maybe he got new information from him and was on board. A little bit of retconning is happening because the comics show Dallas back at the safehouse before the Resevoir Dogs heist, but it's not that far-fetched.[/sp]
[sp]santa took bain and we need to goto the north pole to save him[/sp]
[sp]santa took bain and we need to goto the north pole to save him[/sp]
[sp] nah we find Bain and 3 body doubles at mercy hospital and must use a dna tester to find the real one. [/sp]
I think it's infinitely more likely No Mercy will tie into The Walking Dead
So....are we still getting our annual christmas heist too?
On the stream earlier today, they said they had something in the works!
There's still this one heist not attempted before, though it wouldn't fit in well with current Vlad's Christmas heists.

Call in the dentist then. Tooth decay is a very serious problem.

[sp]Maybe because Vlad is a drunk idiot, and very impulsive. The Dentist seems to be in it for his own sake, so why help the gang/ Bain? Locke seems to be the only level headed one, who could give things good forethought and plan 3 moves ahead.[/sp]
Guys it's Wolf obviously, cmon.
[sp] I've got a feeling that the Butcher is the traitor and she's using Dragan as a mole. It would tie into the mysterious phone calls he does at the safehouse and his whole pack is around him being an infiltrator. I hope Dragan isn't killed off though because he's my second favorite character. [/sp]
So I asked someone in PD2 who saw Reservoir Dogs and they said the name of the alabama razor wasn't a reference to the movie, any ideas for the origin of the name? I know the razor was in the movie itself. I think it with the name of the union rifle could be a reference to the recent senate election, but its probably unlikely.

[sp]I don't think they're going to kill off Dragan. It would be a spit in the face to everyone who bought his character pack, since the content would have to be removed. Plus, they would be ditching everything they did to create him (voicelines recorded by Mr Mrsic, the whole character model, his perk deck...). If anything, if the Butcher was revealed to be the traitor, I'm lowkey expecting her to betray the gang, Dragan included.
Then again, she doesn't have a motivation to betray us, I think. We heisted a thermobaric bomb for her, twice (I think. I don't know if The Bomb heists are just retellings/variations of the same heist.); we eliminated the head of the Sosa cartel pretty much on her say-so; we helped her people in Alaska. She doesn't seem to have a clear motivation to go for any sort of betrayal towards the PAYDAY gang, which did a fair bit of things to aid her goals.[/sp]
[sp]What about McKendrick? He still hasn't gotten his comeuppance for bringing Garret down on the gang.[/sp]
[sp]I love that locke has a replacement for every single bain lines[/sp]

Why would it have to be removed? Remember that you can play Hoxton Breakout as Hoxton, Payday story is basically porn story.
Bomb Heist are two different options, they don't both happen
Here's the WAVs for Trouble Always Inbound and Mr. Purple, for anyone interested (145 MB):
