All the previous classic heists have Bain speaking during the intros, including Diamond Heist, which didn't have Bain speak at all in the first game. Besides, intros that do feature heisters speaking use specific characters regardless of who's there (see Hoxout Day 1 and Breakin' Feds), so I don't really see characters like Rust having lines in the intro.
In the FBI files entry on the Dentist, a person who tried to rob the Benevolent Bank is quoted as saying "Tell The Dentist to go back to Hell," and I don't know if this is official, but the PD wiki's front page has an info
card on the Dentist with Bain talking about him with this part: "Got no record, no priors - could be he's the goddamned Prince of Darkness."
Also a theory on the ancient masks
On the topic of the Ark Masks, I certainly believe that the masks were designed as an insurance policy. We see it in the ark when you open it up that there's the four original masks. We know that America was, well,
America when Baldwin was around, timeline-wise. Perhaps these masks were designed as an insurance policy, and they were the key to something, or various things. Think back to the original PAYDAY: The Heist
secret. If you stand in the right place the secret vault opens up, but only if the cameras are all up. The cameras are recognizing the MASKS, not the positions or the people. I think Baldwin,, or maybe the ancestors
to Duke, or someone who was in on the secret, set this whole thing up just in case everything fell to shit.
OK, here's a short version of what's going on. Note that I'm simplifying some parts and I'm skipping an explanation of where all of this is sourced from.
Once upon a time there was a Thing of Power. It was used by an alliance of three kings. The Thing of Power made these three basically immortal superbeings, along with other benefits. They had an alliance to share the Thing. This alliance was called "Kataru". (Kataru literally means "alliance" in ancient sumerian, to get an idea of how old these guys are). Kataru ruled the world-basically they were the illuminati on steroids.
Karatu had, like, attendants, or pages, or something, which were called "Watchers," whose job included . One of the Watchers, a guy named Baldwin, tried to steal the Thing in about 1814. They failed, and were disappeared. This mess set off a power stuggle that caused Kataru to collapse- the Thing (now referred to as Baldwin's Lament) got sealed away, the kings split up and started stealing and hiding each other's junk like it was a bad breakup. One of the Kings came out mostly on top of this struggle, and he was still immortal, but he didn't have access to the Thing, and some of the other powerful artifacts used to access the Thing. This guy effectively took over Kataru and used it to seek out the other artifacts and engage in an extended secret conflict with the other group members.
It looks like Kataru consists of the following things:
King 1: "Doctor King", aka the Dentist. Associated with that box with the eye of providence/pyramid on it, and The Diamond, which is also called the Demon Star, and is associated with the star Algol.
The king who took over Kataru? That's the Dentist. Basically every antagonist group in the game, starting with Murkywater and including Gensec and the Garnet Group, seem to be working for him. He's apparently all-powerful, especially since we retrieved his box for him from the Golden Grin. He's also got the feds working for him at this point.
Associated with the alchemy symbols for Gold and Copper, for reasons that aren't entirely clear (aside from the Golden Grin Casino, I guess).
King 2: "King Elephant", no prizes for guessing his identity. Associated with a box with a bird's flight trail on it (but the bird is tiny, the whole thing looks like an abstract snake), and the Police Star.
It looks like the Elephant was trying to coach Bain to be a sort of new generation of Watcher, maybe. Whatever his plan was, it's largely fallen apart with Bain gone and with McKendrick having turned on him. It looks likely that he was the reason that the Diamond was in a museum, and the Dentist's Loot was in the Golden Grin. (for the record, a bunch of crossover heists that have us hitting Murkywater were originally going to be hitting the company for the Elephant.)
Associated with the alchemy symbols for Mercury and Salt. The Mercury symbol also appears on the throwing axe weapon, which we got with the Biker heist, which we did for the Elephant. A strange drawing on day 1 of that heist also appears on the back of the "Cursed One" mask, which we got with the Diamond Heist DLC. As far as Salt, I don't know.
King 3: "Scribe King", identity unknown. Associated with a box with a double triangle thing on it, and the "Fate Star". Might have gotten killed in the civil war, might be hidden, might be the figure referred to in the ingame masks as the "Cursed One", might be Bain. No one's sure.
Associated with the alchemy symbols for Lead and...it looks like mercury again, which is odd, because in another source, the listing reads "Antimony".
The thing we got from Brooklyn Bank is the "Amulet of the Perseids", which seems to also be important. The Perseids are a meteor shower that appears near the star "Algol". A Kataru guy named Lyndenhurst gave the amulet to Duke's ancestor to hide shortly before getting murdered in 1905. Duke's ancestor apparently was the one that hid it in Brooklyn Bank.
We're going for the Lament, which various sources imply may be able to trigger the apocalypse. We have all three of the Kings' boxes (whatever those are), and it seems like the Dentist has at least one of the three "stars", and, well, Bain. And the police. And Kento. Did I mention Kento appears to be running Murkywater for the Dentist? Well, he is.
Let me know if you have any questions. At this moment, the
Was the Overdrill the first time we intruded on Ketaru property? Can't be a coincidence with the fleur-de-lis being in the Overvault, as well as the Brooklyn Bank vault and the Ketaru seal.
Also the gun the Microgun is based on
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4veQxu-NWM
Yes, it looks like it was retroactively made so the Overdrill vault was probably holding some Kataru gold. Originally, it was described as "cursed Mayan gold" and it was suggested we'd stolen it from a "Mr. Trust".
Think the Dentist had Hoxton arrested after stealing the Overvault gold and to have us get the box for him as payment for breaking him out?
So if Kataru owns or has influence over Garnet Group, would that be why Bain conducted the Diamond Heist following Alaskan Deal? He says that it's to take a stab at Locke's finances, but since it wasn't a real betrayal that clearly wasn't the case.
I think that realistically, a lot of this stuff is Overkill making stuff up as they go along. I'm not sure much meaning can be gleamed, and I'm expecting retcons. Not to discourage the theorycrafting, I'm just speaking my two cents.
IDK, it's quite possible. That's gone unexplained. There was a suspicious shelf added to Diamond Heist, now that I think of it...let me see if I can track it down.
Also I have no idea who Baldwin is.
The new writer talked to Bo Andersson and he said the story was a lot less ramshackle than it appeared
In the first game, "Baldwin" was just a historical clue that was intended to tell players they had to wear a certain mask as part of the unlock requirements. The devs hid the years of birth and death of Baldwin IV, a king of Jerusalem who had leprosy and thus supposedly wore a mask to hide it. This was supposed to be a clue that all members of the team had to wear the "overkill 145" mask (think roughly the equivalent of the OD mask in pd2 in terms of unlock difficulty) to activate the Overdrill. They also had to be playing on Overkill 145, which was completely unstated.
In payday 2, "Baldwin" never actually appears, but was supposedly a "watcher" in service to Kataru that tried to steal the source of their power and disappeared. No other clear information exists about him, but his name appears a bunch as a plothook.
"No one" is a hyperbole.
Many of us =/= all of us.
"People working for money" is not weird, but it's especially egregious with Ron Perlman, whose Rust lines are uninspired, said with a bored voice and a lot of his callouts are missing.
It seemed relevant to bring it up in terms of my earlier post on page 83, about which characters could reappear in PAYDAY 3. Perhaps I should've made it a bit more clear in said post. Apologies for any inconvenience.
Pedantic comment aside, that's an issue with the voice acting director... Unless you believe he's a hardcore fan of whatever movie or show he's been part of where he had a better performance. OVK was happy with whatever they got and that's what made it to the game, and since you like to be so *accurate* then I'll just say that I have no problem at all with his character and that him sounding uninspired and bored is subjective and that there's no problem with the end result.
He's probably not going to come back for PAYDAY 3 anyway, although I feel like I can say that about around 80% of the heisters at this point if not 100%.
...have you played Payday 2? They don't do that anymore. There's 21 characters, meaning an impossible amount of combinations to write dialogue for. If any heisters talk during the intros it's unaffected by who's actually in the heist. Dunno why you're expecting this.
Fair enough. In case of No Mercy, would it be possible to have an intro that doesn't involve the usage of one soundclip? Otherwise, just bring the voice actors together to make voicework for calling out to each other. If Joy gets added, then do just that.
Duke is so awesome, I love him being an important character. I'd play his "origin" heist about saving artifacts from the Middle East.
I'm so glad Duke got such an important role in the story instead of being shelved like Sangres or Rust, he's really turning out to be one of the better heisters in the game
I would forget Rust exists if I didn't have a vide of me shooting him in the safehouse made a year or so ago. That's how much of an impression he's left on me, his voice line are the most uninspired, bored sounding that I have heard in any game that I've played or seen so far. As for his voice being an issue because of the acting director, films are different than games, Pearlman probably does better with films than games, So I wouldn't be surprised if he just didn't find inspiration in Payday and because of that his performance is so lackluster.
What about GUN? Fallout, remember? Ron Perlman once said that "war never changes."
IIRC he's pretty outspoken about his disdain for video games, telling people who praise his Fallout stuff in AMAs to go outside more. The boredness probably doesn't shine through as much when narrating a depressing post-apocalyptic game as opposed to playing a badass biker guy in a hectic FPS game.
Honestly some of the characters feel like someone at OVK watched Sons of Anarchy and just decided they wanted Ron Perlman in the game, for example. Still, I can at least respect him being honest about why he did it.
Does it mean Perlman liked the narrator role better? Butch Harris of the Far Go Traders might capture his on-and-off impatience.
I really hate not being able to edit down quotes so I can only quote what I'm responding to.
It sounds like a mod you have may be screwing with either matchmaking key (unlikely) or with net connection (a lot of things can do that).
I don't think you can edit quotes at all, but you can highlight the section you want to quote before you hit reply.
Is there an updated version of the basic voice lines on any mod sites,as in general i see that must of the mods i have are outdated for quite a while.
The Patchett modded for concealment might be the worst weapon in the game, why would you use it over the Parabellum or Micro Uzi?
The Patchett might be the worst weapon in the game.
Ftfy
I still wish we got a Middle Eastern heister, guess we can hold out hope
a Berber heister would be pretty cool
My net has been a bit fucky lately, but I'm trying to rule out mods first
Ty tho!
