Reapers have a one-time use ability called shadow, that allows them to re-conceal themselves from the beginning. Regular Rangers get it further down the skill path. Also I think the Reapers can get a lot closer to enemies without being detected, when compared to regular troops. Basically: get in, plant, re-conceal, get out.
I know that, what I meant is how did you get unnoticed if planting X4 breakes Concealment and Shadow? The radius of enemy detection is large when that happens and you trigger pods, is what I mean. But then I remember saving my first soldier from the Chosen captivity(it happens in the story) and after going out of Shadow enemies didn't notice me because it was inside of a building and noone was around to spot me, so nevermind my question.
Is that the mission type where you need to place X4 charges? How did you get unnoticed when you planted it? Nobody was looking at you?
The answer is simple: I didn't go unnoticed. I made sure that a door was within one turn of movement, placed the charge and then ran straight to that door and evac'd. The Viper King was quite literally two tiles away when I did this. Fuck you Viper King.
Can you keep the game running forever or are there simply not enough Events to reduce the Avatar Project?
You (probably) can't delay the Avatar project forever because some of the points aren't invested into any facility, i.e the ones where the camera pans to the middle of the sea and shows the avatar marker. You can get rid of those points with the story missions but you'll eventually run out of those You can also use covert actions but I think eventually RNG would screw you over if you didn't get enough of them per month
You can also use covert actions but I think eventually RNG would screw you over if you didn't get enough of them per month
I only had Reduce Avatar Progress appear thrice out of about 7 months of in-game time if I remember it correctly, which isn't great obviously. But, when you do it it reduces the progress by 2 pips, even though there normally is a medium-high chance of being ambushed by ADVENT and then you have to run for it to EVAC as two-man squad.

So as long as you can remove one pip every time the doom clock gets close to zero you should be able to delay it. Dunno how often Advent build facilities though.
All soldiers actually use the hero system, and it's really good because for a cheap price, you can basically spec any soldier down both of their class paths at once. I also only discovered this just now in the lategame, I thought it was just for leveling up soldier bonds :v:
Ooooooooh fuck, I feel like a huge dumbass now.

Know what I didn't get? Why are Skirmisher's Ripjack melee useable only using their specialized Justice abilities, and a very late tier ability that finally makes it act like Ranger slash... on a 3/5(?)-turn cooldown. Why.
Know what I didn't get? Why.
I got Mox to Major rank after that same mission with exectued Berserker Queen, and I'm very confused about that too. It makes no sense in my opinion.
Apparently slash for skirmishers doesn't end your turn like ranger's slash. If you slash within blue-move range, you still have your second action. but that still hardly justifies a 5 turn cooldown for a melee version of abilities you can already use at range with a shorter cooldown.
i assume you get new ones only if they're killed?
I've read you can possibly get additional ones even if they're not killed but I don't know what's the requirement for the cover op to show up, or if it's 100% random. Also apparently if you untick the "Lost and Abandoned" mission on a new game you wont get Mox and Dragunova, but instead you'll start with a random Reaper, Skirmisher or Templar.
Do the Templars ever get their own mission or are they just kinda there?
Think it's mostly random. I have 2 reapers at the moment which are kind of handy for raiding facilities quickly.
Do the Templars ever get their own mission or are they just kinda there?
Just kinda there.

This means you can mitigate the fact that every single pod has a magnetic pull towards your squad even in concealment. My Reaper has the superior mobility PCS (+3 mobility) and a mobility bonus from a past covert op, giving him 16 mobility base. With shadow active, that turns into a 24 tile blue move range. If you take sensible risks with the odd yellow move it is extremely easy to get past patrolling pods 2) While planting the X4 charges does break concealment, if you do it with your first action it is a free action, while planting them with the second action ends your soldier's turn. I used a risky yellow move to get onto X4 marker, and as you can see, the closest pod walked back inside the building and came within spitting distance. This also meant I could run to evac in the same turn, and even pull off a remote detonation shot, for shits and giggles.
The remote start ability reapers have is so insanely good. I just blew up half a blacksite with a single fuel tank, leaving only 3 survivors and my cover still wasn't even blown. Fuel tanks turn into nukes with reapers and its lovely.
I've had an interesting problem with Reapers. The distraction skill doesn't work for me, and neither does Annihilate.
I haven't even modded the Lancer. I got him from a resistance order that randomly gives you Advent troops at the start of a mission, while the Bending Reed dark event was active. Somehow he gained a tonne of mobility each turn until this was possible.

After I killed her.
Just beat a chosen stronghold. Am I just lucky or are those missions ridiculously easy? I was expecting the chosen would have additional abilities during that fight.
Templars don't start doing much but holy fuck do they get amazing later on, you can walk into a pod and nuke it for 20+ damage with your psi-lightning, so ridiculously satisfying.
The answer is simple: I didn't go unnoticed. I made sure that a door was within one turn of movement, placed the charge and then ran straight to that door and evac'd. The Viper King was quite literally two tiles away when I did this. Fuck you Viper King.
Update: The Viper King decided to appear on a haven assault mission (I guess killing the facility and not it means it just reverts to spawning as it would without facilities?) and fucked my shit up. Amazingly, no deaths. Knocked out one of the two Sharpshooters I had on the mission, the only Ranger, and put the SPARK I'd thrown in to 2hp and my other Sharpshooter to 3HP. My Grenadier was the only guy not affected and somehow they all escaped being fucked by the Berserker/2 Muton and Priest/2 Trooper pod that directly followed and victory was ascertained. Guess I'm gonna have to keep prepared for the slithery bastard to come back.
Templars don't start doing much but holy fuck do they get amazing later on, you can walk into a pod and nuke it for 20+ damage with your psi-lightning, so ridiculously satisfying.
I lost my templar in like the second mission I put him on after acquiring the poor dude so I spent most of my game not bothering with my backup templar I recruited. Chucked him on all the covert ops for promotions so I could see what his top tier skills were and he's sick as fuck now. Dude's also built like a tank from all the ops because I kept chucking him in for the +1 health bonuses. I don't know if there's a max on those or what. He hardly ever takes damage anyway though from his parry and freakin' psi shield he has.
NERF REMOTE START [vid]https://s1.webmshare.com/6rKdV.webm[/vid] Also I got the Assassin as my first Chosen and I have fucked her, after this recent mission, a total of 5 times now. First in an underground tunnel, again on a blacksite mission, then on a VIP exfil mission, then again on another blacksite, and this recent one when she assaulted the Avenger. Like I haven't even researched the battle scanner at all. I haven't used it at all to fight her. I just wait for her to roll in and daze someone then blast the ever loving shit out of her cover and wail on her with gunfire. I think I got really lucky with her weaknesses thanks to Bewildered. My sniper alone can butter her up with pistol shots for the crit kill by my Reaper. [vid]https://track5.mixtape.moe/taagta.webm[/vid]
I had a dark event which meant advent have a chance to reanimate on death. I killed a lancer with overwatch and the game didn't know what to do. It just sat there for 5 minutes trying to figure out what to do next before I closed the game.
Does the Chosen knowledge thing replace random Avenger defence missions?
Does the Chosen knowledge thing replace random Avenger defence missions?
It's in addition to, not a replacement.
Holy moly, the Darklance (Hunter Sniper) is nuts! It has 4 Superior attachments (Scope, Stock, Free Reload, Hair Trigger), standard fare for Chosen weapons. Oh, but it does have a unique feature: it has XCOM EU/EW's Snapshot. With no aim penalty. On a class that can potentially take two pistol shots, a sniper shot, 20% (ty weapon mod upgrade covert action) to NOT COST AN ACTION and, oh, Serial. tl;dr Darklance is absolutely disgusting.
here's some more progress on the soviet uniform stuff

That last ones look of confusion is priceless. "I thought I would be fighting Chechen gopniks, what the hell is this alien bullshit."
