Sharpshooters can suck a dick. Amount of times they've missed shots at crucial points in the battle is unreal: "What's that? You want me to shoot this enemy right in front of me, just 3 tiles away, and turn the entire tide of this battle? Sure, I've got an 80% hit chance, Commander :smug:" and then they shoot straight at the ground.
Get out of here with that shit, son.

I actually find myself using a sharpshooter as a sniper now that I've sent them off on a few Covert Ops to give them a good boost to their aim stat. Threw a grapple suit on them and they're pretty golden to float around the map wrecking shit at range.

Superiour Scope and Superiour Perception(Aim) PCS is a great combo on top of that, too!

Well sniper rifles are bad at close range
Well sniper rifles are bad at close range
is there a penalty for using it up close? cause whenever i'm further away, my hit chance is sub 40%
why is it telling me i've got an 80% chance if it's not the truth?
There's a penalty for using it up close, and there's also a penalty for squadsight. However, as your sniper gets better, the penalties become more negligible, with the squadsight penalty being more easily negated than the close range penalty. Or at least that's what I've noticed.

It's far better to stay far away and shoot through Squadsight than suffer Weapon Range aim penalty as I noticed. Not far as in completely separated from your squad, but in decently long range where you can't get targeted at least is generally a good place to be. If you are more specd into Gunslinger tree then ofc it's better for you to stay closer than that.

Yes there's a penalty that's why it's only 80%
The Gunslinger perks are so gooood. Lightning hands and Quickdraw can allow them to shoot 3 times in one turn. If there's a target up close and not in squad sight range this is usually more damage than what you'd get with shooting them with the sniper once. Except maybe if you use Deadeye and even then you end up with an aim penalty. Sniper rifles really only get good when you at least get Mag ones and put a scope on them. And even then the aim is not the greatest. It's annoying rolling 70% shots on Archons. But by the time you get a beam sniper you should have a superior scope and also a Captain or Major Sharpshooter which should have a pretty high aim already. Mine can hit Archons in squadsight range with 100% chance to hit.
Really I personally think speccing mostly in gunslinger is worth it. There's a handful of Sniper perks I get, specifically Long Watch, Steady Hands, and Serial. The rest is all Gunslinger.
I want to say yes, because the game gets a bit more complicated, but at the same time the content that was added with WotC makes it impossible for me to want to do vanilla XCOM2 playthrough now(even with a crap ton of mods). I'd say get right into WotC but start off on lower difficulty instead.
oh right, thats cool, I'm in the middle of my first playthrough of the vanilla campaign, I just wasn't sure if I should hold off buying for a while. I think it looks good but guddam its like twice the price I paid for the game, so I'll probably still end up holding off.
what about all the other smaller dlc's are any of them worthwhile?
I really liked Shen's Gift. Wasn't too big a fan of Alien Hunters.
yeah i'd save alien hunters for the bargain bin

War of the Chosen is similar to what they did with XCOM Enemy Within in 2013. War of the Chosen is basically XCOM 2.5. It adds a whole slew of new gameplay elements and features and makes the various layers of the game a lot more deep and varied.
So, why can I build SPARKS almost instantly in War of the Chosen, I thought I had to do story missions for them.
[editline]edit[/editline]
Also would it be a good idea to build a SPARK rather early with the new balance changes in play, are they actually useful now?

You chose to integrate the DLC instead of just having the missions. Sparks are a lot better now too. Take out 6 of them.

If only they didn't cost 2 Elerium Cores and I barely ever get those damn things as loot drops.
They still haven't fixed enemies taking full cover behind your own SPARKs if they have the Bulwark perk. Even from the SPARK itself.
They still haven't fixed enemies taking full cover behind your own SPARKs if they have the Bulwark perk. Even from the SPARK itself.
I did not know this happens. Makes me taking Nova seem less pointless.

This. This is insanely immersion breaking. Yeah, ayys are suicidal, but the whole "imma run right up to this big fucking robot with a huge gun" is just rage inducing. Back in vanilla + LW2 classes I used Flush to force a move on a Muton, who was being a piece of shit. There was literally no other cover, so I was 100% sure he'd run in the open, guess what - there was a Bulwark SPARK with one action left nearby. Of course it missed that shot. Two guys ate a grenade as a result.
Never even built a SPARK after that, I'm convinced they have some kind of ADVENT backdoor or a virus in them, dormant until that one moment you need them the most and they fuck you over.
yeah i'd save alien hunters for the bargain bin
I'd save it for the trash bin.

The alien rulers aren't shit in WOTC. You can scout them out with a Reaper and cheese them with squadsight snipers. I did it to the Archon King last night when my Reaper and Sniper went to a facility alone. The king just stood there as I shot it each turn and eventually portal'd away.

If you don't actually activate them they ain't shit.

I wonder if there's an interaction if you use an imported Bradford.

Meanwhile my Jane Kelly's running around with the assassin's sword and accidentally killing the hunter with it before he even acts.
Fuck I love bladestorm. Paste that on top of the "hit a lost and it's always a kill" card and lost missions just become an easy way to farm XP.

Fairly certain that only works when triggering a "headshot".
Then again, I never tested the interaction, so...

I know it says it doesn't proc on abilities, but I could swear I've seen it work for blade and bladestorm kills.
Or maybe it's just blademaster and luck, I'm doubting myself now :v:
One thing I'm curious about with XCOM 2. Is it still possible to have it so the game is only continuing because you want it to? In EW the only threats are the mandatory Terror missions and UFO landings, and even then I can skip the UFO landings once per country. The inevitable Terror mission in the continent offsetting the panic from said UFO being left to go where it pleases. And the mandatory missions are spaced apart by at least one month or so which allows me to engage in a rather slimmed down version of eugenics in order to get a Psionic Assault unit.

theoretically yeah, you can delay the story indefinitely. you'd have to really kick ass at doing black site/facility missions. but strictly speaking no, there's nothing like satellite stalling in EU/EW without modding out the avatar project.
[editline]7th September 2017[/editline]
well no i guess that's the same thing because in EW you still had to do council missions
uh yes
So, aside from a couple of Melee weapon mods that have since been updated for WotC, does anyone here know of any mods that add guns/etc. that are WotC-compatible? Only one I have found so far adds an AK15...

My weapon megapack for WotC should suffice your needs, but there's one problem. It's not released just yet.
In the meantime, you can take a look at this album that I prepared: http://imgur.com/a/Po1YP
