yeah be careful with Reapers and Chryssalids, Chryssalids will unborrow if you get too close in Shadow and will hit your Reaper.
I was not aware of that! Thanks for the heads-up!
Also, question regarding chryssalid interaction: Is Hellweave Mesh really a good counter to the buggers or is it generally unnecessary? I thought I heard setting melee units on fire greatly diminished their ability to, you know, melee. If that's the case, I'd imagine the plasma sword would be great for them too if one has yet to scoop up the Katana.
Also, does anyone actual use any of the vest items in the game? I've alway focused on 'nades and ammo for general infantry, exclusively 'nades for grenadiers, and meds/skulljack for Specialists.
WOTC massively nerfed the burning debuff, it doesn't block you from attacking anymore, although I think it does still block most other abilities.
yeah wtf, incendiary grenades used to be my panic button and now they're just like throwing matchsticks
They didn't want warcrimes to be the go to answer for everything I guess, that or because of purifiers. You need to carry around a lot more situational items this time around. So I guess getting the shadow chamber will be a bit more important, that way you know what the enemy will have and what you need to bring.
Also my current play through is in November, I've killed all the chosen, but I've yet to do a single story mission. I've been fucking around with ops and doing other things too much. I love how much more you have to do in WOTC. Now if only there was a mod to bring back or add more chosen.

Yeah, it's crazy how much all the DLC expands the game. I'm 40 hours into my playthrough and I've only done 2 story missions, killed the assassin and just recently completed the lost tower and alien ruler missions. By the time I'm finished I'll have like 15 colonels under my command. In vanilla XCOM 2 I was already in the endgame stage by this point. But now you can just keep putting the story off while you work on fully upgrading everything and expanding your base. I've had the avatar project come come close to completion multiple times, but I always get the covert op that reduces progress and bails me out for another month or two.
Next time I'll definitely play with the integrated DLC option though, with all the shit you have to do I've been putting the DLC missions off for way too long. Would've been nice to have sparks available early on, they're a bit less impressive now that I have my human soldiers almost completely ranked up. I didn't even realize you'd have to rank them up like normal soldiers, I expected them to be more like the mechs from XCOM 1.

Also here's two turns later. My psi op used rift after the pod was activated. One gateway later...

My end mission score was poor because I had 26 casualties, all of them zombies.
The lost damaged the advent soldier pod, they were killed by a rocket, then the lost surrounded the beachball, the archons started to melee the lost surrounding the beach ball, then one of my two psi ops dropped rift on them, mind controlled the beachball, panicked the archons, and then I used gateway.
Ayy, was leveling 3 rookies with grenades, had 2 heavy weapon dudes helping em, the mission rolled explosive hazard and the ayylmaos became a fine red mist that day.

I really wish it was possible to save a replay of a mission because I just had the most intense one ever.
It was a guerilla op where I had to hack a container. It took me a whole hour to play through only 6 or so turns and everything happened in an area of ~15x15 squares. There was an absolutely ridiculous amount of free action cheating and I ended up with 6.5 kills per turn average.
I started out by taking control of a heavy MEC, then proceeded to pop all the enemy pods that were bunched up way too close together by the next turn. I had to deal with a bunch of advent troops, a muton, a priest, two archons, a codex, an andromedon and the warlock that spawned in the middle of all that mess. + later on the warlock spawned in extra units. Oh and did I mention there were lost pouring in all the time cause of all the explosions that happened? Luckily I was able to take on all that with my 8 man squad (including the hacked MEC + the random bonus advent trooper that I got at the start). I had a sniper sat on top of an overpass overlooking the whole map, he was constantly in the same position, cleaning up zombies with his pistol, then taking out big targets with his rifle (bluescreen rounds are insane, almost guaranteed to 1shot a codex) and cheating out extra actions on top of all that with death from above. A nice flashbang on a group of 4 enemies really saved my ass by giving me some breathing room. So did a shredstorm cannon when I had to clean up that same group + some zombies later on.
But the last turn just takes the cake. Two of my soldiers (a ranger and a specialist) were mind controlled the previous turn, one by the warlock and the other by a 1hp priest who ran away behind full cover afterwards. I had a real buttclencher of a situation on my hands and I had to deal with it real quick otherwise it could all turn to shit. I started out by cleaning up bunch of zombies and taking out a couple other enemies that were left on low health. Then my sniper death from above'd the MEC that I'd just lost control of. His bondmate who was in a bad position then gave him an extra action so he could chase down and flank the 1hp priest and finish him off with the pistol, thus releasing the ranger from mind control. Then I proceeded to overdrive my spark so he could flank the warlock and shred his armor. Then the ranger who just escaped mind control run'n gun'd to flank the warlock, pop a zombie and then hit an 18 damage crit on the warlock. Then I had Mox do his parkour shit to deliver the last bits of damage to him. Bam, problem solved.
It probably sounds like a bit of a mess when I try to put it down in words like that, but playing through the mission was totally insane. Every single turn something really bad happened and I thought "ok, NOW I'm completely fucked", but all the superhero abilities from my squad full of majors kept saving my ass and I ended up with just 3 wounded. This is truly XCOM at its best, you're in a nailbiting situation that seems almost unwinnable and then somehow everything comes together just right and you live through it.
just had a mission where every single shot that was +50% chance missed and every shot with -50% landed. Aliens as well.
I just don't fucking understand how that is even mathematically possible.

Like I want an Italian Skirmisher or something.
I beat my first Ironmode campaign in War of the Chosen last night. It took me a little over 2 weeks real time playing on and off, and I thought I was on the commander setting...I was on veteran. For the entire campaign, I just thought I was kicking ass.
My punishment is to play more Xcom. The horror.
Overall though I love this expansion and every aspect it has added. I've never been more addicted to Xcom since Enemy Within came out.
The character pool glitch is going to kill me
Guess I won't play till it's fixed. My characters randomizing every game drives me insane.
Turns out that wotc can make the final fight stupid broken.
After watching Beagle shitpost on the game, I knew to bring a reaper with a superior repeater and banish. This ended in the first two [sp]Avatars[/sp] go down without a fight at all, as the first one got banned by the reaper with no contest, and the second got deleted by a lucky repeater shot.
The last [sp]avatar[/sp] was the toughest because I had lost control of the situation and it got a move. So it got hit by overwatch, teleported to my flank, and proceeded to hit every single person in my squad with that rift power.
Which then meant it killed itself because I still had the psionic feedback resistance order on :v:

I've always thought a replay system that just plays every action as it happened back-to-back would be sufficient albeit probably pretty clunky. But that's all I ever think about after a mission like yours ends.

Yeah that's exactly what I meant, I want a replay of all the actions one after another. Missions like this would look totally ridiculous if you played them back without any pauses.

Reminds me of that mod I saw awhile back where someone made non-selected units shoot cosmetic (no ammo used, no damage done) shots at each other during gameplay.

Never got around to trying it, but no doubt it's going to be completely broken with WotC being out and breaking almost every other mod.
Uhh is there any way I can check the strengths/weaknesses of a chosen outside of meeting them in a mission? I'm doing the assault on the hunter's stronghold and I want to come up with a proper squad composition so it doesn't end up as hard as it was the first time when I did the assassin.
edit: never mind, I found the button on the geoscape screen that brings up all the info about the chosen.
Is there a mod that allows you to see the % of your shots before you move?
Uhh so the alien hunters DLC gives you a freeze grenade because it should supposedly help you deal with the rulers, but when you actually freeze one they immediately thaw in their very next reaction phase. How fucking useless is that?

It does work, but the thaw also ticks down for each turn they get whenever you make a move, so you have to plan it out, it also works really well on the Chosen and just in general really.

The one time I got to froze the archon king I think he only stayed frozen for 1 reaction phase. Which means that I wasted a move so that he couldn't make a move, making my freeze attempt pretty much useless. It'd be nice if it worked for multiple reaction phases, the way it actually works it seems useless against the rulers. I haven't tried using it many times against other enemies since it's so situational and the radius is very small, but it usually ends up being really disappointing. Even against sectopods it only takes 1 action away from them, then they thaw.

It is really cool. I don't think it's updated at the minute but I actually found it pretty amusingly useful for getting a better feel of where everything was and who was most at threat. Plus just looking downright cool and making it actually feel hectic when things go utterly to shit

It's not as useful when equipped on normal troopers, but it's actually rather useful on Grenadiers because the launcher increases it's radius, it's not as situational as it appears, it's certainly got me out of a few scrapes, though don't try it on Sectopods, it doesn't work on them.
Also, I believe the Archon King, at least from what I remember from people talking about it in Beagles stream, is barely effected by the freeze, so it's pretty much worthless for him.
