Pretty sure that's because status is applied for a set number of action points, and Sectopods have three instead of the usual two
It's not as useful when equipped on normal troopers, but it's actually rather useful on Grenadiers because the launcher increases it's radius, it's not as situational as it appears, it's certainly got me out of a few scrapes, though don't try it on Sectopods, it doesn't work on them.
Also, I believe the Archon King, at least from what I remember from people talking about it in Beagles stream, is barely effected by the freeze, so it's pretty much worthless for him.
That's good to know, do you actually get a full turn against the other rulers or just a few reaction phases? I actually haven't even thought about equipping freeze nades on my grenadiers because the usual loadout of 2 HEs + 1 acid bomb works so well. Maybe I should just start bringing two of them on every mission and load them up with everything I got. Can't be a bad idea whichever way you look at it, they have an insane amount of utility with the armor-shredding holo-targeting cannon + 3 large radius long-range nades.

You'll get a few free turns where they can't do anything, but you gotta be careful with how you do it, if they can see you take the turn, they can also tick the ice effect.
I was taking a picture at the end of a mission and Tygen said "You should tell your men to take a picture next to an ADVENT Burger menu. For science purposes."
I think Tygen has a problem.
Alright so the freeze nade doesn't work on the warlock either, only takes 1 action away from him. Looks like they were REALLY careful in balancing it so it can't be overpowered, whenever you try it on a large enemy they just brush it off like it's nothing.
Had a soldier get mind controlled on a rescue mission, whip out his machete and go fucking Jason on a civilian. I've been joking about it since.
Two missions later, same soldier's bondmate gets offed and he goes berserk, whips out his machete and... sprints over to the nearest civilian and chops the fucker down.
What the hell is wrong with this guy.

Complete squad wipe. Sniper got beat the shit out of by a bunch of Stun Lancers while across the map, Ranger went berserk, murdered a ton of civilians, then got rushed by a Stun Lancer he missed who captured him, my Specialist, Dmitri (who I've brought with me through five different XCom campaigns) jumped out of cover to take out an officer, hit him, and somehow did the bare minimum damage and got gunned down the next turn, and my grenadier, Krieg (who I made this whole badass story of being a South African mercenary XCOM refused to hire in the first war) held off the LZ and kill two troopers before FUCKING STUNLANCERS AAAA.
RIP A-TEAM (besides the ranger I fucking hated that guy).

Playing Lego Star Wars 3 with a friend(through Parsec - fucking amazing for local splitscreen games only to play over internet, 100% recommend) made me watch The Clone Wars episodes(the TV show, not the movie ofc), which in turn makes me want to do a retarded XCOM playthrough - spike my squad size number to 10+ but just do a stupid commander that has a whole lot of clone troopers at his disposal and just throw all of them at enemies and see how far I can survive in WotC campaign. :v:
5 sharpshooters in a lost mission is hilarious.

This has to be the best take on a horde mode system I've seen so far, might have to steal it for tabletop.
I just finished my first campaign of WOTC. It was only on Veteran because the last time I played was before any of the DLC was out and I wasn't confident in my abilities. I lost only two soldiers (one to a mind controlled grenadier, another to a flank on the avenger defence mission), and I had 17 Colonels by the end.
Fittingly, I think, when the game ended and I got back to the main menu the game crashed.
I think I just had the craziest mission ever
Saving a resistance VIP and two soldiers from an abandoned city. Ok. Kit myself out for dealing with lost, no grenadiers.
Turns out, it wasn't only Lost. Turns out, there was a Sectopod. And a Heavy Mec. And Archons. And the first thing the Heavy Mec does is shoot the third floor (where the VIP was) out from under half of my squad.
I just barely managed to bog down the entire ADVENT force with not one, but two ultrasonic lures. Thanks to the enemy's liberal use of explosives, eventually the entire screen is filled with Lost, the Sectopod is electrocuting them by the bucketload as they gnaw on its mechanical legs, my Templar is laying on the floor (thankfully stabilized but unreachable) at a Muton's feet as it cuts itself through a Lost horde, and my people are hopping from the ruins of the apartment building over to the elevated train tracks where the evacuation zone is one by one, shooting only the Lost that directly threaten them. It was at this point that I decided that skedaddling the fuck out is the only option, even if that means my Templar gets captured. That's what I get for not having Revival protocol on my Specialist, it seems... But hey, at least I got two high ranking recruits outta that one.

The game ragequit you.

Getting the Beginner's Luck achievement in commander ironman was not a pleasant experience.

And now to think like a XCOM / Dwarf Fortress player- let's hope Darwin is right about this girl

Dawww, my best sniper maxumym lost his bondmate in a previous mission to some bullshit.
The game decided that her compatibility is very high, and she is also a sniper. Is this fate or just RNG?
Went to rescue Mox. First person got him out as the first reinforcement wave hit, then Outrider went out, then I was about to send my third when the fucking ladder exploded from a fuel tank.
So he now had to run all around the building when he gets stasis'd by a Priest who had landed. Three troopers shoot at him and all somehow miss.
So next turn there are now around eight Advent surrounding this guy and half of them have overwatch, so me being an idiot, I throw a flash forgetting that'll end his turn.
So now there are ten Advent running around, the Priest has turned one into a God, five of them are shooting at him (all missing somehow) and three others (including the God) overwatch.
This motherfucker somehow sprints out of his cover and around the building, triggering every overwatch, and dodges every shot.
So he's now behind the building but the only way to the next ladder is past a huge window into it, and all of the troopers have basically poured in and overwatched again. There are now twelve Advent.
So he detonates a fuel tank, killing three (he'd already killed four holding the LZ before the evac) and then, his next turn, he sprints up and triggers FIVE reaction shots getting to the roof and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM misses.
What a fucking hero.
So I'd finally gathered up more engineers than I'll ever need, and I decided to demolish a workshop to make place for something else. The only thing that could possibly have come in useful was the defense matrix, so I started building it. Literally 5 minutes after that I get the Avenger defense mission. Goddamnit.
Squadsight sniper and a reaper/ranger with concealment still works like a charm, avenger missions are a piece of cake.

this is a scary fucking squad
poor ayyliens are going to get annihilated
lategame i had so many psi ops because i just kept training more that i could have filled up several squads, i was kinda lacking in equally trained "normal" classes
Unrestricted customisation is amazing

cheers to ninja for the idea
Hunter just showed up for the first time and ambushed me. So obviously I freaked out, but hey, he had a weakness to explosives.
So I had my Reaper hit him with a claymore - 10 damage, he has 5 left, instantly he decides to retreat.
So before he had a chance I had Rookie Rando shoot him. 5 damage.
I just killed a Chosen within 1 turn of him showing up gg Advent try again next time.

The most broken combo right now seems to be hunter's rifle + wraith suit + death from above. On any wide open map you can just grapple to a high place, proceed to kill everything in your sight and go into overwatch after you're done. Even better if you have a spotter for long range targets, that way you can pretty much solo the whole map.
Yeah the Avenger mission was a piece of cake regardless, I'm just mad I wasted the time and supplies putting up a building for nothing. I mean the whole concept of the defense matrix would work a lot better if you actually got to use it multiple times in a playthrough.
what's this avenger mission?
I've never had a Chosen actually attempt an assault, they just keep sabotaging me like a bunch of fuckwits
How soon should a mission to free a captured soldier become available? It's been months since I lost Revolver Ocelot in a covert op, and I'm starting to think he's switched sides or something...
Every time Advent burgers are mentioned I smile like an idiot, small fun stuff like that and every time Bradford talks about his sweater or complains about something are amazing. I'm not sure it was mentioned by anyone but if you listen to the Resistance Radio it turns out Tygan wrote in to the radio to tell people he will pay them money to bring an Advent burger to where the Avenger is currently landed.

My favourite Resistance Radio broadcast is the one where he talks about " 'mah buddy Stanford" and follows on with "you just keep killing aliens. Or at least talking about killing aliens."
Speaking of fun stuff, this line by Bradford is my favorite:
