On my latest mission the assassin showed up and kept taunting me over and over but never actually did anything. Turns out she spawned in this tiny corner of the map that was only accessible with explosives. Doing a reaper banish on a chosen killing em in one shot is so fucking satisfying
I kinda prefer this, even in XCOM 1 you went from "holy shit sectoids and thin men" to "holy shit elites and heavy floats" and finally to power armor overlords gunning down every motherfucker in sight. I personally enjoy that moment when things turn around and you're no longer trying to claw at small victories; instead you're stomping the aliens super hard and feeling super badass about it.
Yeah I enjoy feeling powerful too, but the difference between early game and the end has become too extreme now. I thought I'd have a ton of fun extending the game as long as I can and going "sandbox mode" after finishing most of the story and killing the chosen. But it got old pretty quick because I'd easily steamroll through every mission with my endgame equipment. Today I decided to wrap it up and play the final mission. I remember it being stupidly hard in vanilla, but now I breezed through it on the first try, every avatar got killed the exact turn they appeared, and barely any enemies even got to fire a shot at me in the entire mission.

He spawned in an unreachable location and just spammed zombies the whole time. As for when Xcomfell, I've seen guess that it was between 3 and 5 months into the war. It's possible to get psionics in three months if you rush for it. My last EW play through I had them after 3.2 months. When Xcom fell, they had enough time to get a rudimentary understanding of Alien tech, but also fell before any major tech breakthroughs happened.
i just want vahlen back for xcom 3 tygan is a cool dude but i need someone crazy on my team
TBH I like both of them. I was a wee bit skeptical regarding Tygan at first but IDK he seems so chill and professional yet there's so much you don't know about him and his past. Vahlen was cool cause she was this hardcore science lady who spoke about morals while at the same time slowly had to change to protect not only her colleagues (and family) at XCOM, but the rest of Humanity. I can't even fathom the idea of being chief scientist at XCOM TBH...
Next game has the best of both worlds, Vahlen and Tygan. We knock the science up to tech level absurd. There could be great dialogue between the two, and then more of Bradford's crush.
Bradford Jr shows up. [editline]20th September 2017[/editline] Also the next Shen is black.
next shen is a pectoid
Next game has the best of both worlds, Vahlen and Tygan. Like, he'd be the calm one, suggesting normal things and she would be like "Can't we just pump them full of super aids, fill them full of explosives and send them off as walking bombs commander"
Doing a reaper banish on a chosen killing em in one shot is so fucking satisfying
Stronghold Assault, Coffin destroyed, Superior Expanded Clip +1, Banish, 70% chance to hit, Hunter has Return Fire trait; Let the games begin. [sp]He missed every Return Fire and died to the Banish eventually. RIP snarky best chosen husbando[/sp]

I decided there was a more interesting way to clear that room than opening the door. All this talk of closed off rooms full of enemies reminds me of the worst missed shot possible I got in EU, where my heavy gunner missed like a 90% shot, left an important enemy alive and hit a wall on behind it. The wall broke and inside the room were elite mutons and an Ethereal who then aggroed on me and killed the entire squad.

There's so much high ground around there, open windows with heavy cover so I naturally can't resist putting my squad there. And then someone misses a shot and destroys the floor from under themselves or one of their squadmates. Or doesn't actually miss, but for some inexplicable reason the floor gets broken anyway. And they fall down, no actions left, intro a horde of Lost. Fuckkkkkkk.

The idea being you have to pick your research carefully while trying to find a balance between Tygan getting too caught up in morality and putting you at a tactical disadvantage and Vahlen getting carried away and turning your troops into unstable genetically altered cyborg horrors that occasionally go mad and attack one another- proving you are little better than the aliens themselves.
i think i would probably just always pick vahlen because that sounds sick
well obviously :science101:.
Or it could be more visual and act like the StarCraft 2 campaign research, where it's in 2 trees and you pick left or right. Tygan being one and Vahlen the other. Obviously Vahlen would have the weirder options.
One tree has a bit of everything, weapon and armour upgrades and a new 'Kitchen' facility that Tygan can be staffed at. Doing this reduces the kitchens output. The other tree removes Grenades as it's first upgrade.

Retcon Tech Tree +Dr Shen and Bradford's sweater are reincarnated -NO close range attacks

Speaking of the chosen, I was wondering if anyone ever though of the idea of modern making their own chosen to increase variety
Also isn't it just hilarious how Vahlen created more dangerous weapons through the Alien Rulers than the Elders Chosen, like I have way more of a tough time taking them on than I do the Chosen. The only thing the Chosen have over the Rulers is they can't die.
Let's not forget about old Shen. For all his posturing about "permanent changes" and moral obligations, he was pretty quick to offer up the idea of sawwing off the arms and legs of any troops he could get ahold of. He calls them "volunteers" but I played a lot of EW and nobody ever refused to get amputated. Makes you wonder whether he asked them at all. Maybe he got Valhen's cronies to drug them in their sleep and drag them off to the surgery room. One thing's for certain, that man had far less in the way of moral scruples than he let on.

Well people do pass EW off as being a simulation from the commander's time in stasis. Clearly the aliens changed things around inside the Commander's head. They tried to make Vahlen look normal and Shen insane. It only partially worked. Vahlen's crazy science is also rather fun. Why put giant piston hammers on a berserker? Vahlen didn't ask why, but why not. The right kind of science.
exactly. we need vahlen to put those piston hammers on xcom troopers. you know we'll need them underwater.
I just want the WWE wrestling moves from the King Archon on my troops. I want Bradford to be like "OH MY GOD, HE'S ABOUT TO PUT THAT SECTOID THROUGH THE TABLE!"
There should be a wrestler type class you can unlock, that basically acts as a human viper in their abilities. He would be able to run up to humanoid enemies and grapple them like a viper, with them only letting go when being damaged. Guess a good balance to that would be any friendly who tries to shoot the target would cancel the grapple and probably hurt the teammate. Maybe have a high level skill be putting someone into a submission hold when they're low on health to make them your ally for a while when they submit. Or another where you can use height advantages to suplex enemies off of buildings for increased damage. Oh if only I had the know how.

I've always ran Templars as "run in, Rend, parry or run back to cover" people and used Volt extremely sparingly. Are the other activatables worth fucking anything (Amplify, the blade aoe thing, ghost, swap places) has anyone experimented with that silliness?
