Nothing is more infuriating than being stuck in a slow, in mission death spiral since you had to assault a chosen stronghold with a team that was almost, but not quite, good enough. Watching the battle in the [sp]chosen's sarcophagus room as every couple of rounds you lose one soldier after another as you just don't quite have enough dps to deal with both the tier of enemies that keep spawning in and whittle down the regen chamber before the chosen themselves respawn. [/sp]
I made the decision to go with what I thought was a pretty strong mid-tier team. I waited as long as possible, right before the assassin might has [sp]assaulted the avenger[/sp], but nope. I just wasted the last hour and a half in a infuriating deal spiral.
It's frustrating to watch, and frustrating to know you just threw away that much time irl. Eugh.

Use Bluescreen rounds on everyone, or your troops with the highest damage output if limited, next time. Sarcophagi count as Mechanical for their purposes so it boosts your damage. I've one-turned a Sarcophagus that way before.
Where did you find that HECU soldier mod? I've been looking for one for a while
They made it and will be releasing it as soon as they feel that it is ready.
in the meantime u can pm me for a wip link

you know i sort of miss the regional liberation mechanic in LW2, if only from a narrative point of view. i do wish i could nail the coffin on certain regions once the chosen are taken out and so on.
EXALT is dead. Long live XCOM.

Now this is getting tedious.
I launched the magnetic weapons research at 14 ish days back then. Few days later the Assassin decide to boost it at 17.
After pausing it to finish the plates i get back to it. few days later the Hunter boost it back to 16 days.
And the black market can't help me rush it besides for autopsies.
Help

Should i just engage the Assassin with Tier1 guns? 'Cause last time it wasn't great
Man, I kinda want to replay EW but I can't bring myself to play it knowing I have to lose for it to be canon.

Wish they would include an EXALT remnant faction or something. Or at least explain what the hell happened to them, because they were a sizable paramilitary force that's existed for like thousands of years or some shit. Kind of strange how the only thing left of them is the bandanna.

I though Exalt were meant to be remnants from the Bureau.

That's the only real logical explanation for their disappearance after the mission. Previously they were capable of throwing literally thousands of people with gene mods and in possession of some pretty damn spiffy laser weapons. Yet when you blow up their office with 20 people in it they're suddenly nowhere to be seen. It makes more sense that you didn't completely destroy them, they just went "oh fuck oh fuck these motherfuckers can find us run and stop" and fucked off from the globe.
Gameplay wise it makes sense, it's a satisfying build from having your cash drained and your research for the Nuclear Fusion Holocaust Ray for your Firestorm disrupted into throwing in six Colonel Sniper MECs with Flamethrowers, Grenades and Proxy Mines and leveling the place at the foundation.

The only thing left of them ain't the Bandana in X-COM2, EXALT got fucked by the aliens just as much as XCOM did back during the invasion and what was left, the remnants joined up with X-COM, as you can get former EXALT troopers in your character pool bio.

The Bureau ain't canon to the strategy games, EXALT were basically just a bunch of rich pricks who thought they could ride out the alien attack and reap all the benefits, didn't work out that way for them however and they probably fell just as fast as XCOM did.

The Bureau is mentioned in one of the XCOM archives in XCOM 2.

I was sure they said it wasn't canon tho, but perhaps I'm just misremembering things.
Like, it wouldn't make any amount of sense if it was canon.

Isn't it also the virus they use to control your dudes during the base defebse mission?

You mean the Sleepwalker Virus? I mean, I don't think so, wasn't that just mind control.

I think they offhandly mention it's a virus from some 50s agency and imply it's the bureau
I think they offhandly mention it's a virus from some 50s agency and imply it's the bureau
But like, that wouldn't really make any sense, it doesn't show any of the signs of the Sleepwaker Virus, ala black sludge seeping out of their extremities.

I think they imply it was some modified version if it? I'm not too sure it's been a while since I Played I'll see if I can find the text
is there a hidden potential mod for WOTC?
i mean there are a handful but with all the wotc duplicates and idiosyncrasies it's hard to tell which one to use

I like the idea that these guys were like wannabe gangsters or rich facists trying to make a place for themselves. When the aliens attacked these losers had the idea to ride out the alien invasion, pick apart the scraps left over in crash sites, and modify themselves to be "super"human and take over the world once the aliens are done destroying our government and the people they despised. XCOM obviously knew that won't happen, but in EXALT's fanatical belief of being something huge they persisted until we finally located them and ended their nearsighted vision. In South Africa of all places.
To me, Exalt seems like a bunch of rich and powerfull arseholes who used the alien invasion to serve their own purposes what ever their end game was. They only needed a 'sizeable' fighting arm because Xcom was around to stop them.
But seeing as the Aliens won and Xcom ceased to exist, it makes perfect sense for the Exalt leadership to jump in bed with aliens to form the human element / face of the Advent Administration.
This leaves enough room for there to be Ex -Exalt serving in the resistance and 'Exalt' VIP captures.

My bad, its the meld report that references the bureau, Bradford says it was Psionic control for the base attack defectors.
[editline]7th October 2017[/editline]
Also since meld isn't canon anymore, no more bureau thank god.
The timeline and lore of the XCOM saga is quite hard to understand, but I think we can make some sense out of it.
On the Bureau [sp]the ending cinematic makes a clear connection between Bureau and EU. Moreover, video says something along the lines of "we are going to purge every file and buy every newspaper to hide this incident [/sp]. We can say that EXALT is a "corrupted" version of the Bureau, because [sp] one of the 3 endings was "kill all aliens and infected", let's say this is the canon ending of the game: The Bureau had the technology of the Aliens, but they were unable to improve on said knowledge because the 50's technological progress wasn't advanced enough to investigate it, and the US goverment didn't see the need to maintain the Bureau (a national force), so they focused all the efforts into XCOM as a world-wide force, because they see the Bureau unable to protect Earth on the future. The Bureau saw how they lost all the credibility (purges of files) and support over time. So, they went rogue and made an entire story about their power over time and how they can influence the world. In reality, they made this lie to justify their previous and future acts in case the Aliens came back (Think about it as an excuse to keep going with the proyects instead of giving everything to XCOM), then they formed EXALT when the true Alien invasion of Earth began.
They knew the Aliens can be defeated, so they used the knowledge of the past and tried to gain the upper hand as the XCOM Forces and the Aliens fought eachother. When the XCOM Base fell, EXALT knew they weren't fighting the same enemy of the 50's, thus they dissapeared from the scene.[/sp]. I think this is kinda good, I haven't played the Bureau nor 2/WOTC, so excuse me if something doesn't make sense game-wise.
is the workshop fucked for anyone else? downloading mods at the amazing speed of 12KB/s
is the workshop fucked for anyone else? downloading mods at the amazing speed of 12KB/s
Steam servers are having issues at the moment, it's not just workshop based. I had games attempting to update last night at a few bytes a second.
Apparently I'm near the end of XCOM when I built the chamber for the Ethereal device. 4 Psi testings and no luck. I better find someone with "the Gift" soon or more countries are gonna panic and pull out of XCOM. I got two ticks on the "Doomsday meter" and I'm running out of time.
Gone back to playing LW1 again because I'm a gluton for punishment.
3rd month in doing moderately ok, got lasers, asortment of armour upgrades and only 2 countries quit one of them being the base and the other being a country next door.
7 Days from the report, Covert extraction in 3 days. Suddenly Get a Unknown large contact NoE over Europe, all 10 of my interceports are fucked atm so I can't look at it, moments later landed abdutor in my back garden. Normally I'd fuck it off but due to the timing I got my A and B team up and ready to go with members of my C team about to come of fatigue.
Decide I got enough to take it on so tool up and head on in.
Get that bastard of a spawn point up at the front of the ship, 4 hours later with some stealthing around the side of the ship and some good old no mans land "hold the forest and shoot any fucker stupid enough to come at us" techniques I manage to get everybody through it alive. If it wasnt for some well placed rockets it coulda been a fucking disaster though as a pack of mints deciced to active on my flank and completely fuck everything, but the only wound taken was on the scout who I double dipped anyway (got shot through a closed door by an unactivated floater because reasons). Thankfully the Command pod was on the lower level of the cockpit so it was an easy take in the end. Killed my first mechtoid of the campaign too.
Get back to base to check out the spoils and im pretty damn pleased with myself.
Back to scanning then what do I get. Unknown large contact NoE over Europe again, an abductor. The fucker lands in the same bloody place. Not sure if I wanna risk it again.

Can you imagine Advent melting down people for their DNA and then a bunch of angry skeletons just bust out of the tubes.
