We'll get you yet He-man, I mean XCOM!
Can you imagine Advent melting down people for their DNA and then a bunch of angry skeletons just bust out of the tubes.
wint warned them but the aliens didn't listen
Apparently I'm near the end of XCOM when I built the chamber for the Ethereal device. 4 Psi testings and no luck. I better find someone with "the Gift" soon or more countries are gonna panic and pull out of XCOM. I got two ticks on the "Doomsday meter" and I'm running out of time.
It's based on your soldier's Will, and in my experience it'll only ever test positive for one person at a time. So just throw in whoever has the highest Will and you'll find your gifted soldier, or throw in rookies and waste everyone's time.
i'd love for a mod where you're playing as a ragtag group of survivors in a lost city with limited ammo and an OG style inventory system

Doesn't matter anyway I lost. Both Japan and China must have pulled out at the same time after that one Abduction mission in the UK. GG no RE XCOM.
BTW the zero losses might have been some old save scumming from last year's saves. The rest were Pyrrhic victories.

If you want to cheese the absolute shit out of the game and eliminate all risk from the game, my advice is rush sat development. Prioritize satellite uplinks and the satellites themselves. Keep going until you have only one country uncovered, and then once you either eliminate EXALT or whenever you feel ballsy enough to try and manage the panic again by constantly swapping back and forth from country to country with the abductions, let a UFO shoot down one in a separate continent.
With only two countries in separate continents getting anally probed by Sectoids, you can keep the panic in a stalemate by just switching to the continent that you didn't do the last time there was an abduction. Or you can always cover the entire globe (or whats left of it) and do nothing for about a month before either a UFO shows up or the council reports that the terrorists placed a bomb at B, and then breeze through those because all there is on site is thin mints when you have plasma rifles, ayylien grenades and titan armor.
I'm not sure if this applies to Long War or not which I haven't played, in which case disregard everything I said. And be warned that if you do this too early, you might get fucked by EXALT and not have enough weapon fragments for things like plasma weapons, or enough elerium for said rifles to be actually produced. Normally when you reach the point where they have lasers, you're going to be fine because you have a MEC, and plasma weapons and POSSIBLY titan armor, but if you don't let enough aliens through you might be stuck with carapace/skeleton and lasers which will prove to be your undoing when you're expected to fight 16v6 with the exact equipment they have.
E: Quick question. Can the WOTC Propaganda thingy be used as a benchmark for the actual XCOM 2 game? If I can run it without any severe FPS drops, can I expect it to actually work or will my laptop's battery go thermonuclear and burn a hole through the Earth?

It should be noted that it is the 5th anniversary of the release of Enemy Unknown
Do cars explode randomly or does a source need to trigger it? I had a car explode earlier even though nobody shot at it. Wasn't on fire or anything, just suddenly exploded.

It doesn't really, Long War kind of fixed/nerfed sat rushing for panic control. However, you can rush sats/uplinks to do the continent hopping cheese for an extra bonus.

Clearly advent ALSO has that sneaky sniper unit with remote detonation :v:
Either that or advent aren't very good at manufacturing cars.
missed shots can hit items in the environment and make them explode later
[editline]9th October 2017[/editline]
doesn't even have to be close to your target to make this happen
I miss every shot having a real trajectory and possibly hitting allies or other enemies in the original games
spooky time soon™

Has there been any word on a patch for WotC yet? Cause it introduced a ton of little bugs and mechanics that don't even work the way they were intended to, it's about time they started fixing at least some of that stuff. It'd be nice to have the game in a more polished state before I start another playthrough.

Is the future of marketing just shitposting?
You haven't hit peak "That's XCOM" until you take a random, unimportant shot with a Sharpshooter at the Lost across the map, only to miss, hit a car, which goes onto detonate and kill your one and only Reaper who was out of actions.

And a copy paste for the lazy
Speaking of fanfiction, me and my roommate a few weeks ago were trying to avoid studying and discussed an XCOM tv series. I think we decided on 3-4 seasons. This is long.
The first season would be a short "pilot" season, it'd go from the first mission to the first terror mission. The major goals of this season to establish some characters for our squad in addition to the Council, Vahlen, Shen, and Bradford, and basic elements like UFO interception, recovery, and abductions. The commander may mentioned in passing but is not shown or named. The major arc for the season would be whether the XCOM project would continue. We wouldn't show off too many main characters, in fact we'd probably kill a lot of people to show the early challenges of the war. Though we'll see a lot of them seem young and rookie like. Probably lose a country or two, we really want to show that this effort is grim, and possibly futile. Towards the end of the season we'd start hearing about new tech developments like carapace armor and laser weaponry, but they aren't quite finished yet. The season finale would be the first terror mission, which is successful (and the squad survivors will be main characters in later seasons). The success of the mission assures that continuation of the XCOM project.
The second season picks up where we left off. It'll certainly be a bit more optimistic, since XCOM isn't quite fighting for its own survival anymore. We'd get deeper into XCOM's efforts to understand the aliens, going over autopsies, UFO types, MELD, the aliens themselves and their technology. Outside of our main squad members, we'd be rotating secondary characters in the squad, people we can get to know, promote, and kill off later. The major arc here would be attempting to capture aliens, and interrogate them. Throughout the season, we'd start peppering in new technology like laser weaponry and better armor. Discuss the possibility of MECs and gene modding. Our main characters will be progressively better in combat. Not necessarily talking deliberate abilities, but see them just be more effective and confident. We'll see escalation of the alien's efforts, introducing abductor ships, new aliens like the Muton and Cyberdisc. We also may start peppering subtle EXALT references, silhouettes in the background, maybe a logo drop somewhere. Portent will be a big hint and take place this season, as well as Friends in Low Places. Consequently Zhang comes on as a secondary character. This season wraps up with the second to last episode as the base assault, and the last episode would pick up a few days after, and be a cliffhanger as the first half of the base defense.*
The third season picks up by finishing the base defense mission. An important character is severely wounded, but will be brought back as a MEC. Though they'll have internal conflict with this forced transformation. Possibly have another character volunteer for augmentation, alternate the two in the squad, gives intra-squad conflict. EXALT becomes an official threat, though they will be mentioned solely in passing after their introduction**. We can take this opportunity to swap out a main character who may become a covert operative. Major plot points this season include extreme escalation of the conflict, introducing heavy floaters, elite mutons and sectoid commanders as regular enemies. The threat of a battleship is an issue throughout, perhaps shoot down some satellites. Psionics become a subject, we get one gifted soldier but they have significant trouble developing their abilities. Gene modding also becomes actually applied to some soldiers though not all. Deluge will take place early on, bringing on Annette as a main squad member and mentor to our gifted soldier (Though she will not develop mind control). Confounding Light and Gangplank will come as a two part episode, eliminating our battleship problem. The firestorm is finished, and turns the war in XCOM's favor. The final episode will be intercepting the overseer ship, recovering the ethereal device, and Annette dying.
The fourth season is largely spent wrapping things up. Our gifted soldier will start developing their abilities up to Annette's abilities and beyond, including mind control. XCOM is pretty much done with tech developments, so psi armor and the ethereal device will be the only tech subjects this season. The threat of ethereals on the field will also lead to the mind shield being an important development. The EXALT base assault will be mentioned somewhere, though not an episode itself (Perhaps taking place between seasons). Furies occurs during this season, one of them will be brought on as a secondary character. We discover temple ship, perhaps fail at shooting it down from the outside. The ethereal device is finally researched and the gollop chamber is developed, our gifted soldier becoming the volunteer. Newfoundland occurs somewhere as well. Obviously we wrap up with the temple ship assault. The most beloved original character dies during this mission. Obviously we win, yay, show ends. I know this one is kinda boring, it could maybe even be merged into season 3, making that season longer.
* If there was an XCOM 2 show, it could pick up here. Or the second part could be a flashback later on.
** Since we didn't want to shift the focus of the show over to EXALT, we decided that they would be handled in a spin-off show; XCOM: Covert Ops. The spin-off show would focus on EXALT, and a handful of covert operatives. We'd get to see what the operatives do, and extraction missions are handled here too. It'd just be one season, ending with the base assault, pulling the regular XCOM squad over for the finale. One episode would revisit a regular XCOM episode, but from the perspective of a EXALT operatives working in the background. Whoever is focused on in this episode, would be seen in the finale, and die.
tldr: XCOM could make a neat TV series.

So my Commander Ironman run ended in tragedy when the game crashed, and the save apparently deleted itself? It ran that crash dump screen, error message poped up and the dialog closed, and suddenly my save is gone when I launched the game to get back into it.
Is there any way whatsoever to get it back? I never bothered to learn how Ironman works beyond there being only one save, but does the game constantly delete and remake one save for the campaign, or constantly rewrite the same save? Do you think there's a chance to recover the file(s)?
Nope, it's pretty much gone unless you had some already installed file recovery system to manage your save folder or something. That's how I lost a whole campaign in the beginning when WoTC launched.

Restoring from backup is the only option I know of. I've had to do this more than once.
Just do Honestman (in future) like most people, the game isn't stable enough for Ironman
