So If I do have the game and the expansion, and I have versions for both vanilla and WOTC for a customization or a soldier mod, would both versions create conflict, or does the WOTC fill out for both the vanilla game and the expansion? Seems odd for a mod in order to get it to work properly.
edit:
Unless WOTC's starting level and some missions carry over from the vanilla game I can see why.

WOTC mods and their legacy non-WOTC versions are separate mods, and are treated as such in the mod loader. A WOTC mod won't work without WOTC, and a non-WOTC mod won't work with WOTC.
Unless you plan on playing without WOTC loaded and using the same mods you use in WOTC, there's no reason to download both versions of any mod.
Ah okay so war of the chosen is less like a traditional expansion and more of a "director's cut" of the original game. That makes the different versions make a lot more sense now.

More like an expansion for an RTS or 4x, I guess, where often the content expands on base game content.
Hello. I'm trying to download mods for XCOM EW but I'm told that I need to play the game offline and disable automatic updates, but Steam no longer allows you to completely disable updates for games. What am I supposed to do instead?
I mean the game isn't gonna be getting an update ever again as far as I know, so just proceed on with the next step.
Lastly, anyone have an opinion on this mod? http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1123588800
The feature is that it allows you to recruit aliens from several other mods like the Mass Effect Turians or the Asari instead of just human resistance characters. It's apparently buggy according to comment feedback.

That's true, I just thought the game might try to update itself if it saw the files were modified

Looks janky as hell. I somehow ended up with a mod that let's you recruit Sectoids, Vipers, Mutons, and Andromedons from covert and council missions. Also janky, but pretty fun. Got two Andros within the span of two missions though.

I think that's a submod for the above that changes the Spectres or whatever to The Liberated and allows you to recruit aliens through it.
Problem is that all of the aliens you can recruit seem to act a bit wonky as far as their abilities go. The Andros can't seem to punch anything unless it's already next to them and they have both action points. All of their weapons, even if they are depleted, only do 2-5 damage, which doesn't make sense considering it's a damn Andro rifle.
Seems fun though. Just wish I could get different aliens to work for me.
So I downloaded a very...special mod.

Too bad it makes the difficulty setting hard to interpret. Now I'm not sure if I got "Normal" or "Hard" because by mission 2 I lost three soldiers, one of which was from the tutorial level that lived.

Does anybody else enjoy making their squad look like the Power Rangers?
It's the only way to play.
So it turned out that Kelly didn't die, only gravely wounded. What observation skills I have.
Apparently you can respec your soldiers now. Now I can fix those random promotions for characters I created. No I don't think John Shepard needs to be a specialist.
Just bumping this up so people can see this thread instead of the accidental one from the merging.
Just started getting into XCOM: EU, and I started a fair ways into the base game because I wanted to see what it was like without Enemy Within... now that I play EW I regret this heavily . What are some mods you guys recommend getting that don't alter stuff drastically? I know Long War is a thing I'm interested, but I'd like to get atleast one playthrough down before I dive into that.
Updated Phoenix Point gameplay, same mission from last time but new features have been added

I got a mail this morning about Backer Build One for Phoenix Point. Will post thoughts.
It's better than I thought it'd be. Much more stable and optimized than expected, or at least the premade showcase mission is. I feel spoiled right away because the soldiers actually have realistic vision ranges and can engage enemies from afar without being sniper-oriented.
I thought it was cool that my assault got his arm shot off so I just got my sniper to drop his pistol for him so he was still combat effective
This game has a lot of potential, it's still very very rough for understandable reasons
This is still the best gif out there:
"S'up."

Got back into this. Reapers really showcase how bad the AI cheats. I don't like to savescum, but when I get descovered because 3 pods are converging on my location down to the fucking tile- You're gonna be cheap, I'm gonna be cheap.
Savescum just makes things boring. Enemies converging can be annoying, but you can exploit it, and I'd argue that it helps the player more than it hurts them. Overwatch traps that the enemy walks into on their turn is the most powerful tactic in the game when you can pull it off, and it's a lot easier when enemies are coded to eventually walk right towards you.
I actually tried getting back into this, but it really ticked me off on my third mission. Underground, plant C4 on big psi object and win, use nodes to slow down alla bomb missions from EU. My god, it gave me 4 initial turns and I was nowhere near a node, I had to kept dashing my guys and hope I don't trigger a pod. And of course by the time I find one atleast, I've already triggered 2 and can't even find another one in sight. What bullshit design of a map.
Yeah, I only savescum when something really bullshit happens (like 3 pods converging on my Reaper down to the tile), I make a mistake by misunderstanding a gameplay mechanic (mostly finding out what objectives cost points or trigger alarms), or I've royally fucked a mission because hypoclycemia trashes ability to think and you just go autopilot.
I should add that my Reaper was also on a rooftop and the MEC jump jet through the skylight to reach him. It was supremely obvious the AI was cheating.
Finished my Legendary playthrough on XCOM 2. The customization is wonderful! Jeans, masks, shirts and voicepacks. Jensen killed by a melee attack, or Rich Evans getting fucked by critical is something you don't see everyday. I absolutely LOVE how hard and "tactic" the first month are. Relying on quick thinking and abusing AI, then mid-to-late game is... Boring.
Next stop: saving to buy WOTC.
