I thought that [sp]Elder Ones are like the Uber Ethereals and normal Ethereals are mere "clones" of those. Like, they were cast away or something and they thought "let's clone ourselves" and that's how we got normal Ethereals. I'm not sure though, my understanding of EU/EW ending is pretty shallow. Basically I understand almost nothing and have my own version.[/sp]
Explosives would be more satisfying if terrain destruction wasn't so glitchy. Kind of breaks it when you see rubble floating in midair. Also the way characters behave when the ground beneath them is destroyed sucks: Explosion->Ground is destroyed->Instant teleportation->5 second pause->Takes damage (or dies)

Unless I am missing something in which case I am the dumb. [/sp]

In EU/EW its implied when you use the Gollup Chamber for the first time and in the final dialog where the ethereals tell the volunteer, "You did our job for us" and "You need us for whats coming" followed in XCOM2 them telling the commander again, "You need us" and with that little teaser of a bunch of psionic energy leaking out of the depths to me at least seemed to be the boogieman the ethereals feared rather than say something they caused.[/sp]

That wasn't a problem in XCOM:EU and was a slight occurrence in XCOM:EW, but only with enemies that didn't die until shooting stopped. Ambushes are really bad for it, the time between attacking and the enemy reacting is several seconds, but it should be instantaneous because they're being shot at.
Well, finally finished the campaign after milking the shit out of everything (2 maxed Psi soldiers, all research done, complete Avenger, radio towers in every region etc.) and I gotta say that those two final missions were intense as shit. [sp]Tower Relay[/sp] [sp]I savescummed this mission three times, looking for the best unit composition while also gathering more intel for all of the bonuses. Seeing as the countdown was in effect I was in a bit of a rush to gain intel so I pulled off a guerrilla op which gave me 120 intel thankfully. The third and last try was spot-on, using three sharpshooters (!) of which two carried mines (really glad I had one in-game month where I bought shittons of items to complete the armory), managed to knock out 75% of all the enemies on the third turn using said mines alongside two killzones and a serial strike. Despite having one dude getting stuck at the center of the map after some blazing fires messed up the map, preventing him from moving, it all went smoothly with only one injury (that being "me"). I just loved the cinematic following that mission, just watching the population slowly turn on the Speaker and on ADVENT as a whole.[/sp] [sp]Fortress[/sp] [sp]For this mission I brought my absolute best soldiers, 5 IRL friends who were my top dogs alongside a russian grenadier who had proven his worth on numerous occassions. Together, alongside the Commander, they went in through the portal (I got goosebumps when your soldiers saluted you on your way out) and into the last mission. For most of the mission everything went well, alot of good hits, quick kills and almost no hits. When the enemy did hit any of my dudes it was really just minor damage. While it did take a while to plow through the fuckton of ayyys and ADVENT forces I finally reached the entrance to the "elder cube" (final room). Took a break turn to reload and heal up, all soldiers were ready to kick ass and finish the fight at this point. Moved in, downed the entrance guard (andromedon + 2 codexes) in a turn using my superior human weaponry and psionic powers. Then came the shitstorm, I savescummed once back to the turn where all my dudes were still gathered infront of the fuckhuge statue because at first I had split up everyone into two groups which got hammered pretty damn fast when those portals came to life. Managed to mind control a archon (pinions helped alot to remove cover etc.), a andromedon and a muton. The two latter were of great use to flank the second avatar. First avatar went down pretty fast, second one got vaporized after downing one of my soldiers (specialist), who sadly flatlined after one of his buddies carried him to cover. Why? Because the other specialist only had a revive charge but no stabilize charge. RIP Anton. Losing one of my best made me fight even harder, managed to mind control a gatekeeper using insanity which in return finally finished off the third and last avatar. At this point all my soldiers were running low on ammo, HP and had no extra ordnance. You can probably imagine how relieved I was when I got the Earth Avenged achievment the moment the fucking avatar died. :V During the entire last cinematic I smiled while having goosebumps, it was so awesome to see ADVENT go down and I laughed at that one dedicated news reporter who still remained loyal to the administration, talking about curfews and shit. Then I got to the point which I know some of you have discussed before; the terror from the deep hint at the very end. Got very hyped from that. After that I was actually a bit sad because while I had only lost three soldiers (tutorial + fortress) I already had begun to miss the men and women that I had seen go from rookies to high-ranking officers, the spearhead of mankind. To finish it all off I went to the character pool to take a quick glance at them all again, the heroes of humanity.[/sp] [sp]I fucking love XCOM.[/sp]

THE REAPERS ARE HERE.
My salute scene was ruined because I forgot I had a lime green and hot pink sniper wearing this
What's up with the Salute scene having garbage fps?
What's up with the Salute scene having garbage fps?
I think it's because it randomly loads several of your soldiers in an instant.
Hey guys, I'm gonna pick up XCOM 2 soon. What are some fairly essential mods that you guys think improve the game? No need to suggest cosmetic mods, just stuff that revolves around making gameplay an overall better experience. So far I've only played EU, so that's currently what I'm used to. Also, do you guys feel that XCOM 2 is worth the $60 price tag as it stands?

Thanks for the advice! Two more things: I read about some "shadercache" thing that slows down people's games, how does one deal with that or is that old news? Second, my computer isn't top spec since it's a $1200 laptop from 2012. How graphically demanding is XCOM 2? EU ran pretty well, very few significant drops in frame rate. [editline]27th March 2016[/editline] Are mission timers worth disabling? I hear that they're either unfair or they rush the action too much.

There are a few specific settings that cause of a lot of issues, I know, but couldn't tell you exactly what ones. The shadercache thing is on the modder's end, don't believe there's anything you can do with it on your end. I believe the ones I linked you are good to go, though For Mission Timers, it's entirely up to you. I personally play with them on, to keep myself from falling into that cycle of slowly inching fowards. They definitely force you to go faster, and make riskier plays
Mission Timers are actually half good and half bad imo. ok lemme explain - when I bought XCOM2 I was REALLY worried about timers being a pain in the arse, like I was considering playing my first playthrough with no-timer mod. Then I played the game on easiest difficulty, learned the ropes of it(and made a FUCK ton of mistakes), and now doing Commander and honestly, timers are not that bad. They force you to move faster and it's more difficult to set up perfect ambush against ADVENT, that's true, but it also makes you move forward at a faster pace than EU/EW ever made me to(except for Meld, I guess). But that said, when I do Blacksite or any other rare mission without timers I feel I have a LOT of freedom in my actions. They really need to add proper labels to legs, arms, and torsos. I don't get why they don't have that capability.
What's up with the Salute scene having garbage fps?
it's got a tonne of high detail soldiers rendered up close, I guess that's it back when my PC was improperly put together (with a PSU which was much worse than I realised) it actually caused a surge in GPU power and shut down the computer lol
Hey kids, are ya ready to learn how to go to Africa? Here we go! Step 1: Have access to all of Europe and most of Asia... And get denied! Why in the shit isn't the character pool in steam cloud? In other news it looks like character pool soldiers who have nicknames might get their names double quoted in the end mission stats.
You know what would be cool? A Hokuto Shin Ken based class mod. I can just imagine a bunch of Soldiers rushing ADVENT then beating them up yelling ATATATATATATA
How many lines are in this? You know RNG is on your side for the mission when different soldiers Execute a Berserker and then a fucking Gatekeeper. [del]How do I add a Sectopod wreck or Gremlin Mark 3 in my inventory? I killed at least 5 Sectopods and none of them dropped the body that I can research.[/del] Nevermind I found it
