XCOM 1 (the recent one) is fucking hard. The jump from normal to classic is baffling. The fights don't seem to have gotten innately stronger, it's just enemy tech levels are way faster than we can keep up with, and country panic levels seem to go up at a silly rate. 4 are currently red but thankfully we recently got a council report so we might be alright. I also seem to loose a good rookie every fight.
We don't even have lasers and mutons and large ships are appearing.

This may help you.
From Commander+ difficulty you can't save every country, and you should not try to. I know it sounds defeatest but you need to sacrafice countries for the sake of keeping global panic in check, if you try to keep everyone happy you just end up with 4+ countries in the red with a few others 1 panic level behind behind them.
Learning who to let go is uniqie to each playthrough and it's not something that can be given a fool proof answer. However, once a country leaves you will no longer be able to get that continent bonus, as a result you should try and make sure that any countries that leave are on that same continent.
losing 3 - 4 countries overall is about right, though you can lose 7~8 before the hard fail state kicks in.

Why is this even possible :v:

He got frightened and refused to come down the poor thing
I already finished Enemy Unknown but I still want to beat it on Classic Ironman. I honestly haven't gotten bored with EU even though I already have 60 hours on it. I kinda want to get XCOM 2 but I really dont feel rushed
The only thing I miss from EU/EW is that sweater, big sky and the cartooney guns.
Started a new playthrough of EW Long War on Normal, good stuff.
It feels like I've somehow managed to stay ahead of the power curve with both lasers and carapace by getting fast research through a ton of council requests (France starting bonus). On the flipside, I can't research Xenoneurology because I traded my corpses away. And it's almost July.
And I'm getting increasingly more meld per canister (30 now).
Wish me luck.

I miss the bearable-looking T3 armor variants.
Strangely I miss the cyberdisk
I don't
I mish disgustingly powerful gene mods and MECs that don't suck.
EW
Mechs or genetics?
useful-- Mechs
art-genetics
Let's be honest, there was one actually important gene mod, and it was memetic skin. It was the most overpowered thing in the game. Like the whole gene mod aesthetic was fun, but memetic skin was what you got a gene mod clinic for, most everything else was either situational or very minor buffs. With Phantom concealment, they basically added meme skin back in, but actually balanced it.

The ignore height one in conjunction with that made the ultimate assassin soldier. Snapshot, In the Zone sniper was INSANE.
Meme-skin was OP to say the least. Fun as hell to use but sort of trivialized many engagements to an extent.
The concealment perk in LW seems like a decent compromise balance-wise, just a shame one can't make those "fuck you, got stealth" squads anymore.
EDIT:
40 meld per canister now. This is terrifying.
IN my last EW campaign, I had enough Meld by the end to make 6 mec troopers. The power of FIST was strong that day.
Finally took the time and effort and completed XCOM 2 for the first time.
And on Ironman, at that!
Are there any total conversions for xcom 2 yet/nearly there?
So, I know it's not exactly an XCOM game, but what is you guys' oppinion on Xenonauts?
I coulnd't find a seperate thread for it, and since it's pretty much the same concept as XCOM, I thought this might be a good place to ask, before i decide on buying it or not.

It's pretty decent. It's like a slightly modernized version of the classic x-com. The controls are a little wonky at times and you can't rotate the camera. It's a good game on its own.
Over the course of the last three missions on my latest legendary ironman run
1) I accidently killed two soldiers by throwing a grenade that had a blast radius a full tile away from a car's edge, but set it on fire anyway
2) Conversely, I tried to use two grenades to force a truck to explode in a Stun Lancer's face, the Stun Lancer shrugged off the truck explosion with zero damage
3) My highest rank soldier with 10 health, 2 armour, 2 shield, and 20% chance to dodge (workshop tank class with protection protocol active) was knocked unconscious on the first hit by a Stunlancer baton
4) A Viper spat poison at a group of 3 XCOM operatives the aliens had no line of sight to
Yeah I think I'll just ditch this run
sounds like a standard stun lancer run to me
I on the other hand, recently discovered the joys of triggering an entire pod full of tongue-happy vipers with a bladestorm-ranger. In just two turns, all the vipers killed themselves because they all tried to pull the ranger in to strangle. It looked like my ranger sonic'd her way across the map, and I didn't even do any work.
I knew I made her a western samurai stereotype and nicknamed her "Ronin" for a reason :v:.

I've had this happen more times that i care to remember. The last one I hid my 2hp soldier in the back of a train car on the black site story mission, no line of sight at all on anything, I send my concealed ranger ahead of the team and i'm sniping ayy's across the map from 'safety' yet i watch one of these fucking vipers waltz over and spit through 2 walls at said soldier.
With no health kits or the option to evac it was a death sentance, Pissed me right off.
I almost lost a soldier due to a tongue grab that went through not one but two heavy cover tiles to hit me. I'm a firm believing in the fact that Xcom is largely a game about mitigating risk and the punishments for not adequately doing so are sufficiently harsh but that one just took the piss.
Luckily my sniper managed to land a ~30% shot to free him so I guess bullshit works both ways v:v:v
question about the alien hunters:
am i screwed out of fighting the berserker queen if the archon king shows up?
and can lowering the difficulty make the fight easier?
[sp]sorry for reviving a dead thread.[/sp]
If a new alien leader shows up, the old ones can show up too. I had the same thing happen to me and the berserker came back eventually. It'll just take some time.
As for making the fights easier, idk
