New weapon tier for LW2, Coil guns. In-between Mag and Beam. I assume Laser will also be implemented into the final LW2 as well [t]https://cdn.2kgames.com/xcom.com/long_war_2_coilguns_hero.jpg[/t] [t]https://cdn.2kgames.com/xcom.com/long_war_2_coilguns_001.jpg[/t] [t]https://cdn.2kgames.com/xcom.com/long_war_2_coilguns_002.jpg[/t] [t]https://cdn.2kgames.com/xcom.com/long_war_2_coilguns_003.jpg[/t] [t]https://cdn.2kgames.com/xcom.com/long_war_2_coilguns_004.jpg[/t] https://xcom.com/news/xcom-2-long-war-2-pc-mod-new-weapon-coilgun
So where does the Coil-gun fit in with Lasers? The LW team made those too, and they're also the final tier before plasma. I wonder if they'll implement both but give different requirements.
I'm assuming the coilguns were modelled by our lord and saviour Capnbubs?
I got Xcom2 as a gift for xmas and tried to run it on my laptop but the framerate was simply atrocious, I have a GT 750M, 8gb ram and an intel core i7. I can run games like FO4 with 30~45fps and MGSV with a steady 60fps if set with minimal settings. But max I got on Xcom2 was around 20. I own and have played a lot of EU/EW and it always seemed to have performance issues. I assume that can only be the case for the sequel aside from me having a shit laptop, I have even tried tweaking the engine.ini and deactivating quite a few things along with tweaking the resolutions of some things but it has not really helped. Am I out of options aside from upgrading my platform?
In reality, don't coil/gaus/railguns do more than lasers?

Sometimes I get 60 and sometimes, usually not that long, I get really low numbers, and I have a 980 in my machine. Worst of all is the map, which has me stuck with around 20 FPS, no matter what I do I can't get it to rise. I remember the map having problems close to the launch, but they were never this bad, and I'm not sure what has happened since. Not to mention I'm not even running it all maxed out. Things like AA and so on I can't put on unless I want a miserable experience.

I have a 970 and an i5 and I have no problems running the game on near full. Do you have a lot of mods installed? Especially mods from when the game originally launched used some code that's a bit whack and if I remember correctly devours your RAM.

Though I can't tell you how that was achieved i'm afraid.
I'm running this on a GTX1080. There are still framedrops.
The problem is that the game isn't optimized for 60FPS, but around 40-50FPS. I usually aim for 50, if possible, but some missions (retailiation mission) can really slow down the game due to the game calculating fires from several different parcels/PCP. Also, MSAA 2/4/8/16x can really slow down the game. Using FXAA for me works wonders.
Never got XCOM2 to run particularly well on my 4690/970. Had a baseline 50-60 FPS but it always felt like it dropped continually as some missions went on. Modding really screwed the FPS even further.
I use a 1070, it's fine most of the time, but when loading, doing actions, and especially when the game zooms out, the framerate tanks. Just one of many janky things that this game has.
Also beware of some mods because I remember certain mods like the information mod can tank the fps
Just like to say, I love the look of the coil gun. Thats the look I wanted for the T3 plasma.
Just like to say, I love the look of the coil gun. Thats the look I wanted for the T3 plasma.
What do you mean, of course ragtag guerillas using appropriated alien tech should look like TRON protagonists!
Thank god this game is turn-based and also addictive as nicotine laced with heroin. I think that if it weren't for those two factors, the performance issues on launch and post-release might have been bad enough to kill XCOM as a franchise forever.
New LW2 class revealed, the Technical. Secondary is the wrist mounted flamethrower and rocket launcher usually found on EXO Suits. https://xcom.com/news/xcom-2-long-war-2-mod-adds-new-technical-class-on-pc
When I saw Technical I was disappointed that it wasn't just a Toyota Hilux with a DshK.
Could always ask someone to port the CoD4 Hilux technical, rig it and then turn it into car anthromorph hip-firing a DshK. :weeb:
so what is the current state of xcom 2 technical-wise? thinking about dropping 12 on the humble monthly to get it
so what is the current state of xcom 2 technical-wise? thinking about dropping 12 on the humble monthly to get it
Not a Hilux with a DshK that's for sure
Anyone playing Long War 1.0?
Been a while since I've kept up with XCOM 2, but I hear the coop mod is out now. How is it? I'd have thought it would have made bigger waves, it's something I've always wanted to try but forgot about due to work and school.
Been playing XCOM 2 again and enjoying so far, but I randomly encountered a game-breaking bug that I can't fix, and it's pissing me off. Whenever I click the prompt to see the councilman's communication for the end of the month, the game just freezes and crashes. I've tried deleting saves, removing characters from the recruit pool, redownloading the config files, and now I'm reinstalling, but none of the other things have worked. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

It's pretty fun when you don't tell eachother what you're doing or what to do and just work independantly. Otherwise playing SP while live streaming allowing your mates to have tactical input is largely the same experience without any of the waiting.
Just got the game on Humble Bundle and I'm so bad, holy shit. It feels like I have the time to do nothing. In missions, I end up needing to do everything in 10 turns which doesn't go very well since I'm terrible at the game and outside missions, I literally can't scan anything. Mid scan, some important mission always comes up that if I don't do within what feels like seconds, some bad shit happens and the avatar project gains a tick. I've literally been able to fully scan what must have been 1-2 things in my entire game right now. Also are facilities placement important? I don't know what the hell I'm doing at all in this game. How fast should weapon and armor upgrades be, etc

How fast should weapon and armor upgrades be, etc
Facility placement isn't very important, if you want to be as efficient as possible try to put your workshop (or workshops if you build multiple) somewhere central where they're connected carinally to facilities that use engis, because workshops basically multiply your engis, letting you place two engis in adjacent facilities for every one engi in the workshop itself. Also, when you can, put your power generators on Elerium Conduits, because that gives extra power. That being said, facility ORDER is important, some things you're going to need really early like Guerilla Tactics School and maybe AWC, whereas others like Laboratories and Workshops you can put off for a while (if you even build them at all). [editline]13th January 2017[/editline] Also, there's really no time penalty for doing a mission when it pops up. Except in very rare cases where you have no soldiers who can fight, or you need to finish a scan within like the next two in-game hours or you'll not get the benefit before the month ends or something, you basically always want to take any missions that come up. You can finish your scans later, it's only a small delay for flying to the mission site and flying back. Furthermore, you should be going for the most important scans available at any given time. You're never quite sure when the scan is going to go away, so dedicate yourself to the ones you think will benefit you most. If you like, start scanning for three days on a Soldier rumor, then get an option to switch over to an intel rumor, and you scan that for two days, then start scanning a loot rumor, you're never going to get anything done. Let the less important scans go away, and instead go for the most important ones at the moment. You can't get everything. And of course, scanning at the base isn't ever going to "fully scan", and is only going to be really useful when you need intel/healing/building more than any of the other scan options available. [editline]13th January 2017[/editline] On the research front, one thing I'd advise is to avoid doing as much side stuff like autopsies (with the big exception of Faceless Autopsy, do that shit asap), usually when you start researching other main stuff like story research and weapon upgrades and armor upgrades the game will just straight up give you the minor autopsies for free. Unless the description on the autopsy mentions that it will give you something you really, really want, you can usually hold off on it. But if you think you could really use like, better medkits asap or something then by all means go for the viper autopsy, just know that you're trading overall faster researching for some short term benefits. [editline]13th January 2017[/editline] Tactically, if the time limit is a problem, the big thing that you should absolutely do is GET PHANTOM ON YOUR RANGER. It's one of the first upgrades you can get for your ranger by leveling them up, and it's absolutely essential. Being able to scout ahead, know that there's nothing for your soldiers to aggro, and dash the rest of your squad up behind them speeds you up so much.
