What was the reason for the huge decline in performance from XCOM 1 which ran perfectly on my PC to the sluggish XCOM 2? My video card just becoming to dated?
Extremely bad optimization? As a guess.
Extremely bad optimization? As a guess.
I'd wager all the little increases in fidelity here and there add up quickly. Also the maps seem a lot more... dynamic? The EW maps use a ton of pre-baked shadows for example, while XCOM2 parcels seem to be shaded dynamically on top of being fully destructible. Just hypothesizing here.

Maybe bake shadows after world generation or something.
A mod that would let me play XCOM2 beyond 12 FPS would be godsend.
Having 60 mods doesnt make a performance impact for me because Im in constant 20-15 fps zone with rare occurances of 30 fps
Hey so uh, I just got the mission to destroy a monument in Long War 2 and that was all well and dandy until a reinforcement notification came up, which I thought was weird because killing all aliens is an objective but whatever. Then scores of aliens literally start teleporting into the battlefield every 3 turns, it wasn't supposed to be like this. I could never have been prepared for this. If my sharpshooters even make it back from this I'm pretty sure they'll have ranked up to president.

I think I've fucked up royaly. I got an alert on a rebel supply raid and I figured I should get in on that since resources are so scarse in long war. That shit was a swarming mission btw and I had no idea what that meant until I saw that bullshit with my own eyes. Is there any way for me to salvage this or should I just get out while I can?
Abort! Swarming is 33+ enemies I think. But supply raids are so valuable since they let you gather enemy corpses.
Is 35+ not normal? All the 5 or so missions I've done I've come out with a 30+ kill count.
Is 35+ not normal? All the 5 or so missions I've done I've come out with a 30+ kill count.
What infiltration percentage are you at? You want to be going for extremely light opposition at 100% generally speaking.
What infiltration percentage are you at? You want to be going for extremely light opposition at 100% generally speaking.
I dunno I just click start. I bought a 75% infil once and it didn't seem to do anything, still ended up fighting (and killing) about 30 advent so I never bothered again.

The advertised enemy forces are what you'll face if you infiltrate to 100%. Extremely light is 6-9 enemies and you can't get any lower.
I dunno I just click start. I'm not having any problems early game but I'll definitely check that shit out soon because fuck having to fight any mid or high tier enemies in pods of 8. Thanks.
The most annoying thing about LW2 is definitely fiddling with individual armors and weapons. I wish it still used the same system as base Xcom2 for upgrading weapons and armor.
Alright more Facepuncher story time: I wanna rush to the last one so, between the last post and where I'm about to start, 3 missions passed. Resistance recruitment - Fairly simple, with small reinforcements. Archival got a kick out of using both his rocket launcher and his flamethrower though, I'll give you that. [t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/90470964771354112/B17AE3B1674933D2754FEE23762679A49417E254/[/t] Hack an objective - All went fairly well, forgot to deploy the extract on that early, so I found out that reinforcements come in really big pods of about 6+. Regardless, everybody made it without a hit. [t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/90470964771361625/D1A49CE4583303F82339A9F1819C85033BE38561/[/t] VIP extract - It was alright in the beginning, however near the end, I had to push everybody to their limit and ignore the enemy. Destroyox got shot bad and started bleeding out due to a BS crit from those ADVENT Sentries. Luckily, Scottywired was right next to him, picked him up and rushed out. [t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/90470964771357890/FE3E7C4B068C82CF50E9198DFD5B64FBE28541FF/[/t] With Destroyox out of the game for a month, ReligiousNutjob took up the mantle of carrying his grenade launcher. (Remember that name) OK, so, Shen's last gift time. First level, made it out with just a few scratches. The painful thing about fighting all these MECs is the lack of a Support with Shredder, but hey, Conro did his best, especially when he rolled good. Second level, got real painful near the end, almost losing Shen when evacing to the roof. Struggle was absolutely real when I was getting 4 MECs per turn. The roof - This is where the real shit happened, cause I knew what I was going up against: [t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/90470964771330071/2BA27B43B085035B0D872F5459DBF3959780FFAF/[/t] God I fucking hate this thing. I immediately went for all the explosives I spared from earlier. 2 Rockets, 1 Shredder from the MEC, just to remove as much armor as possible, and successfully got it down to one. Tried ending with a Hack, but Shen failed miserably to hack a 85% Shutdown on it, which in turn buffed it's defense, making an already hard to miss giant target, even harder. I decided to try a shutdown hack with Greasemunkey and he outplayed Shen on a 38% hack. Next turn, MECs start showing up and I try to pound as much damage as I can into the Sectopod, but it wasn't as good as I could have hoped. The successful hacked triggered a second feedback for no reason, giving this thing extra defense. Third turn this thing starts stomping around, landed a few hits, MECs missed thankfully. It moved to one of the explosives tanks, so I was able to shred out it's last bit of armor and continued to take shots at it. Fourth turn, it missed both shots, but a MEC prepped a self destruct where I had 3 of my soldiers. I tried baiting him with my Spark to draw some fire, but the fucker went right for Jeff and Archival. At this point Jeff was barely alive and I had no more healing from Shen. I move Archival to the side and Jeff near him, just so that the MEC explodes near the Spark, but no. The goddamned machine decided to run right into Jeff. At that moment, Goddamn Jeff, he hugged the MEC so damn hard, that it exploded, protecting Archival as much as he could from the blast. It was time for this thing to fuck off. And so it did, bastard. [t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/90470964771330462/AF718820A0713517CBFA6D73B80E2DA732B4BBB2/[/t] Loss is never acceptable. I hate the music that's tied to when a soldier has died, even if you win, it toys with me. Your sacrifice won't be forgotten and we will continue to shoot these astro-bastards, even if you are gone. ...Or are you?
The successful hacked triggered a second feedback for no reason, giving this thing extra defense.
Fun fact with that bug, if you fail one hack, get a feedback effect dealing damage, and then later make a successful hack that buffs your whole squad, that repeated feedback damage effect will hit your hacker once for each of your squaddies. I know, because my best specialist in my first campaign was murdered by it.
Loss is never acceptable. Is mind control chance in an ini somewhere? Pectoids are 9 for 9 against me so far, and it's bullshit. Also since only one person responded last time: Shen's Last Gift worth it? The SPARK seems cool, but not sure if LW2 made them stronger than the weak shit they supposedly were before.

By vanilla standards they're dogshit but there's a mod that fixes them, meat vs flesh or something.

Aaaaaand one final batch of missions to kick out for the day, cause the last one was quite eventful, again: Resistance traitor: So Linda got a follow up on some traitors in the local Haven, so she grabbed the Valkyrie squad and head out. Basically it was her and 5 rookies with varying guns. Was fairly easy honestly, just 5 advent and 2 shapeshifters. All in a day's work I suppose. [t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/90470964771331131/35932F05804FE6AA5E2FD0CDFEDC098F91AD532C/[/t] Enemy VIP extraction. The spawn location was fairly close to the VIP. Of course that also meant that the pods were right around it too. Waited a few turns for them to disperse but nothing really happened, besides them clustering real nice. My only regret was not having a technical at that moment, but at least I had plenty of flashbangs. Overall, a regular mission, nobody got hurt: [t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/90470964772156449/E41CA54C751F342700A069CB90E0B7403CE3D029/[/t] [t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/90470964772162055/C325353701B2F3BFB5C4D95F21EBE09E1A958DF4/[/t] Next up, item recovery: Inner city with highways on top, it was advantageous for a shootout, but I couldn't see the objective without having to fight off enemies first. On the last turn I decided "Fuck it" so I started grenading the wall so my Specialist can hack the objective. With that done, I immediately rushed everybody back onto the highway and waited for EVAC. While waiting one of the soldiers climbed up without triggering overwatch and dented KennyAwsum's armor, but he'll be back in the game soon enough. Oh, and I joined the fight and I decided "This rifle is fucking shit", so I went to the armory, grabbed a shotgun and a taser. [t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/90470964772164146/DF07F345555E9743D9CC099651A447937E6F2C29/[/t] And for the crowning jewel: Ambush on ADVENT troops Man oh man, I've been waiting for one of these missions for some time now, cause I'm really in the mood for just straight up murder. Highway map again, got on top undetected and got sight of almost every pod on the map. What really caught my attention was a 7 man advent pod and a 3 man advent pod really close to each other. After some turns, I figured it's time to kick this show off and thought to myself "I wonder if Jeff's shredder gun can do some damage". It did, holy fucking dog shit on a stick it did. 10 enemies, gone, like that. Fucking wiped out, didn't even see it coming, just gone in a goddamned microsecond because of flying shards in their direction. If Jeff's spirit really is in this MEC, it was fucking furious and just unloaded on these fuckers. Absolute slaughter. [t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/90470964772174583/C755818CD694A27F9A4AE97AE696FDEEEB8A2992/[/t] Look at that fucking thing, 1 Mission, 1 Action, 10 Kills. Calm the fuck down Jeff. Yeah, MEC Shredder guns are glorious. Make a great opening gambit.
I'm getting real fucking sick of LW2 spawning reinforcements right behind or right on top of my men. And not just a few Advent grunts, it's always a pod of 4+ full strength Vipers, secotids, and at least one MEC. Honestly the way they changed enemy reinforcements really kissed me off. Half the time the game doesn't even tell me I have inbound they just materialize out of a lamp post. I had a blast running by the seat of my pants, only killing when I had to and trying move quickly through maps to get the objective and get the fuck out in the early months. 4th month in and I finally got rid of my Faceless leaches I can start making some better gear but no, fuck you, have two advent MECs with some support spawn right behind you. I'm salty as fuck right now.

Playing an Avenger defense mission in LW2 is bullshit. I mean, vipers of all sizes out the ass, MECs for added insult to injury. You can't stop them as there are just way too many of them. I wouldn't give a shit about numbers if they spawned more reasonable Advent Troopers instead to make up the bulk of their foot soldiers but these mass waves of "specialized" units are ridiculous. How would I be able to defend against six vipers using their tongues to pull my troops out of cover every turn? Fucking insane. Im just gonna have to give up on this playthrough at this point t. Literally seems impossible to pull off.
I really want to like the new long war but im starting to get more and more annoyed at it because of these bugs I keep having, normally its one or two a mission but I just had a mission so rife with them im considering breaking my bronze man run rules. Let me put this in dot point form. - Initially detected by an unseen surveillance drone through a section of wall made up of 6 solid walls with no windows for it to see through - Had one of my guys panic which for some reason did not cancel his overwatch which he proceeded to use the next time an enemy moved despite him having hunkered, upon using said shot he unhunkered and was promptly killed - Had a snek use its tongue pull from -way- beyond the range it can normally reach on a guy who had been stunned by a drone. Upon succeeding in the pull the snek teleported about 20 tiles to be within pulling range of the guy and played the constrict animation, but the guy was still stunned where he initially was so the snake constricted nothing. - upon finally escaping with half my squad dead the game became stuck looking at the legs of the avenger which when I tried to save to see what would happen, completely crashed the game. No one else I know is having this stuff happen to them either, its just me :|
