If I remember correctly, you can go through the customization screen in the barracks of the save and hit export character for each character. I'm not too sure if there is a way to export soldiers that end up on the memorial though.
Yeah there's an export soldier option in the memorial. If they get capture though you have to rescue them before you can get them in the character pool.
You better tell us where you got that IG helmet. [sp]PS: Are you using my Guardsman voicepack ;)[/sp]
Since it came out, yes! And multiple other voice packs like Commissar, Vindicare Assassin, Priest, ect.
Using this pack, it has a Guardsman helmet and you can combine some lower face options like I did to give it a gasmask effect.

Ag Helmets Rus, Yard's HK416, either MW SAS or the BDU mod for the torso and I think Armorless Kevlar Parts for the arms.
Legs I think are just base.

Is it going to be worth starting off LW2 in Recruit difficulty or something? I like the sound of the added tactical elements but honestly the arbitrary difficulty spikes on the battle map are what killed the previous one for me.

LW2 actually prompts that you should play it in Recruit if you're not a veteran of LW1 - it is good advice, I think.
Okey dokey. I know that timed missions are a thing and that you shouldn't attempt every mission, any other general pieces of advice before I begin?
My Proving Grounds menu is hidden inside the landing gear, anyway to fix it so I can see what I can build?

In the early game, at least 100% infiltration or go home. (The game literally lets you abort missions at that point, the choice is there for a reason)
And if you have spare soldiers, put them in your havens as advisors.

I actually was but it didn't look too good on that particular outfit. Seriously guys I installed literally every armor, weapon, skin, country, voice, and hat mod I could find for this game.
I really disliked the vanilla models for weapons/clothing in the first game, steam workshop implementation is great.
now i can use 5pup3r t4kt1k00l soldiers

More missions ahoy:
Didn't have the time to go on a Info Leak mission to prevent a retaliation so, guess what, retaliation time. I like how the new style works, where when you go up to a rebel, you get control over them and gotta EVAC them out. But god damn, while it was successful and Jeff only got a scratch on his armor, out of the 7 rebels I had, 3 are gone. Panicky fellows, they get shot at or near advent, they start yelling and running like their pants are on fire. Still, the mission is nice enough to let you bring 8 peeps + your haven advisor.

Rescuing a soldier:
Cranked out a small squad which started really damn close to a big advent pod straight off the bat. Stalked them for about 6 turns before I got close enough to the ADVENT truck to hack it. Greasemunkey felt extra lucky and ran a hack on a lamppost to random mind-control a Rocketeer of all people, which help to distract the other pod of baddies. Another neat thing I found out, you can use the GREMLIN Airdrop on the VIP. Meaning I can straight up give the VIP a grenade, which was put to good use. Viper missed his sword, what a surprise. I dare not even mention at this point how many times he's missed a 83%+ sword swing, so I had to go over there and save his sorry ass with my shotgun. Conro got spat at with poison but he apparently didn't care about it, so he went up to the snek and stabbed it.
And with that, welcome Lintz as our new grenadier.

Now there was dead silence for like a whole ingame week, which was a fairly bad sign that showed what the outcome was from that Retaliation mission, but finally got something. A hack objective mission which expired in 2 days. Next to suicidal to even consider attempting, no choice but to pack a full 10 squad and charge.
I spawn on top of a gas station and... right into fucking combat. An enemy pod immediately triggered and busted everyone's concealment, including my shinobi's. Figured no point in waiting, so I started popping explosives right off the bad with a Rocket in the middle of this pod. Wrapped them up in a turn with a few spare moves and used the Shadowfall on Scotty's pistol so I can get some idea on where the enemies are.
Started off the next encounter by shoving my next rocket between the 2 pods that were about to enter the local 7/11. What followed were several high ground shots, grenades, area suppression and murder.
After the pod was murdered, like the genius I am, I completely forgot I was to pop an EVAC beacon for later, and it had 9 turns until Big Sky could come back. Pop that and reveal a mix of troops and robotics pod, which even had the first MEC I've seen this game I think. Jeff of course didn't care and shredder the pod, leaving 1 drone alive cause it was just out of reach and the MEC on 1 HP. Jeff is happy. Popped those 2 and setup on the roof nearby to prep for a final turn hack.
Reveal the last pod of sectoids and grunts. Their high cover helped them a lot, but didn't help enough against Airdrops from Greasemunkey to Lintz and just continuously bombard combo'd with Area Suppression. Jeff got in position to cheese the objective from the furthest tile and we prepped to survive for another 6 or so turns.
Small pod was airdropped on a far away building so I barely had sight on them, a sentry and officer were still alive, took a small shot at Jeff. Jeff didn't care, you could see in his visor's reflection he was too busy playing openXcom. Last 2 grunts dead, and a turn or so until we gotta bail.
Big Sky arrived as a big pod of troopers and sectoids psi-spawned in and everybody got a shot or 2 while evacing, laughing at their ugly alien worshiping faces.

I really wish there was a mod one day that would allow you to appy different colors and camos to different parts. I could actually make the grunt commander have a red cap, the grunts helmets green, their body camo the proper black and white snow camo, etc.
You better tell us where you got that IG helmet. [sp]PS: Are you using my Guardsman voicepack ;)[/sp]
The helemet is from this pack, but it's the full Kasrkin mask, not the helmet itself unfortunately.
Supposedly if you activate Shen's Last Gift mid-campaign you can build a SPARKS in the proving ground. I'm looking at my PG and don't see it.
e: I should add that I don't have a mechanized warfare project to work on either.

- Swapped Chain Shot and Tandem Warheads on Grenadier tree. ALSO SORRY.
That seems like an important one to quote.
Do Alien leader pods not count towards the mission's enemy strength? I just did a Very Light mission that had 20 aliens split into 3 pods. Well I didn't do it I fucking rage quit out after the 3rd pod revealed itself from the fog and had 2 sectoids, a trooper, and 2 more full strength Vipers.
I really want to enjoy this but ever time I start to it somehow knows and it feels like the game starts cheating.
- Set max hacking loss from NCE to -4 so everybody has at least 1 hacking and can use their xPhone
Thank god
I was pondering whether or not I should abandon my current playthrough to go with the updated version. Turns out the game made the decision for me as the Avatar project got completed in the background and I lost.
How do I get better at hacking? I have never ever gotten a bonus reward from hacking even in vanilla Xcom.

Ranking up increases Hack stat, different tiers of GREMLINs boost your hack score, LW2 has a Hack Combat Sim. And most importantly, Luck. If you're shit out of luck, then you're fucked.
I think I had my cheesiest mission yet. It was one of those missions where you have to destroy the relay then evac but as the map loaded I realised I had a clear line of sight from spawn to the relay across the map, so I just sent my Shinobi alone to spot it for my sniper and everyone else was just camping the original landing zone. Then, while the rest of my guys were fighting a small enemy patrol that happened to pass by, my sniper spent 6 turns shooting the relay across the map while the aliens standing right next to it were just shrugging their shoulders, probably thinking the massive red beam from across the map wasn't really their problem. Then I just stealthed back with the shinobi across the map and evac'd.

Just installed this again to try out Long War 2. Any speed-up mods you guys would recommend?
