Welp.
My main HDD was on it's last legs so i went and bought my first SSD, to replace it. Moved all my steam games files on to my secondary internal HDD and went ahead with the wipe / install
Swap went fine, copied over all my games and synched them back up with steam perfectly, all except for one.
Xcom 2
The folder has nothing in it, a little reading up about it indicates that this is because the files are shared between directories, so the copy skipped over xcom2 due to permissions or some such bullshit.
As a result i'm now lumbered with a 47 hour download ... (don't ask).
But what hurts the most, is the loss of my beloved charcter pool.
I had to turn off the cloud save for Xcom 2 early in my playtime for stability issues so it's fucked it.
Fair enough 90% of my list was made up of from easily recreated Sci Fi TV show Charecters, but it's those distinguished FNG's who rolled up to save the day in extraordinary fashion that have fallen after earning their legacy, I can remember some of them but those other brave souls are gone for good. It's a sad day.
[sp]Actually it's really the 47 fucking hour download that's killing me but shhh.[/sp]
Damn, that sucks. Hard to see something like that coming, too. I'd recommend some recurring backup solution though to avoid running the same risk in the future. Veeam actually helped me rescue an XCOM save once for me after I went too trigger-happy when cleaning the savegame folder.

On a different note...
I'm in the summer of year 2 on my LW1 campaign, and after completing two base assaults (my only council losses), getting some MEC-7s, rolling out Firestoms, taking mostly MSGTs on missions and basically never losing anything, I was sitting there real cocky and thinking to myself things like "Have broken LW?"
"Did I get too far ahead of the curve?"
"Have I finally reached the endgame?"
"I hope this won't be boring"
"Haha I feel sorry for the aliens"
AND THEN
I meet my first LW Ethereal, on a council mission. And I let it get a turn against me.
That'll teach me to keep my god damned mouth shut.
[sp]I survived purely on a lucky rocket shot + a mind-merged Pathfinder taking out the Ethereal and causing every other alien to panic[/sp]
Yeah sadly the backup failed and due to xcom and cloud saving deleating my save games periodically, at least i get to do an absolute clean install now and get rid of the bloat from the hundreds of mods i installed.
Huh, that's interesting. Is it like a deploy-able item?
EDIT:
Does anyone know just exactly how tough the aliens end up being in Long War 1? Will they progress far enough in research that tactical missions basically becomes impossible? I'm already at the point where they seem to have close to max resources. I've been wiping the floor with them for the last few months with 2-3 MSGT MECs on almost every mission but I'm noticing a slight bump in difficulty now in September 2017.
I'm nowhere near being able to shoot down the Overseer as I only have 3-4 Firestorms (spread out) and I'm fresh out of power sources to make more. Is there a rush to end the campaign before the aliens get out of control, or will they cap out at a manageable level?
Yeah, it is a deployable weapon. It is up on the workshop now.

We got C4, We got Sentry, Now we just need to see someone make proper RPG weapons with animation and we should be able to get a TF2 Style squad
Man, the SteamDB entry/beta branches for XCOM 2 are on fire.

Lot of activity. Expansion announcement soon?

And PAX East is this weekend. Jake Solomon is a headline speaker.
They've announced stuff at PAX East before, iirc, so I'll let you draw your own conclusions.

Last week, it was on the 1st of March 2015.

Wait shit, I think I misunderstood.
I just started playing Enemy Within as my first XCOM game. I'm up to the bit where you invade an alien base with the Skeleton Key - is this going to be a super hard one that I should only send my best soldiers on?
Also, what are the best tactics for Seekers?

Yes. The base assault is a level/equipment check. The cover will also be very poor depending on which layout you get, so you'll want strong troops.
Seekers can be revealed with battle scanners and explosives (if you can predict where they are). If the seekers are not flying, you can also detect them by checking for any nearby tiles that you can't seem to move to (because seekers are occupying them). Overwatch-camping them is another good counter, since they'll often reveal themselves within very few turns.

On your advice I tried it and completed it, capturing the Sectoid commander but losing the soldier who always seemed to be unavoidably mind-controlled.
Which wiki is better for this game, xcom.wikia or ufopaedia?

Rest assured he/she died for a good cause; capturing a Sectoid commander later tends to be incredibly difficult by comparison.
I just pick whichever site turns up on top of the google results. Depends on what you're looking for. I tend to end up on xcom.wikia for vanilla XCOM info and ufopaedia for Long War and other XCOM games.
I skipped the final Slingshot mission two months ago and it still hasn't reappeared - have I lost it forever or am I just unlucky?
Sorry if I keep littering this dead thread with questions, I just wouldn't trust anyone other forum for this kind of sensitive information.

I haven't had a single one of the DLC missions reappear after I was forced to skip them, so I'm inclined to believe they are lost for that playthrough. I too would like it confirmed through for future reference.
in EU/EW, when you skip the DLC side-story arc missions, yes, you've lost them.

Damn, that's punishing. Especially considering the Slingshot missions come fairly early in the game and the third one in particular happens only two days after the second - half my A-team was still in the infirmary, and sending the B-team into an alien base assault mission wouldn't have ended well.
In case you missed it we got some Phoenix Point gameplay:

I'm not saying I don't like it, but this could have honestly just been a mod for XCOM 2. There are way too many similarities in how all of this handles. The main difference in mechanics is that here at least you can shoot different parts on the enemies instead of just center mass.
Those are some eyes.
Crackpot theory: New faction of enemies, the ones that the Ethereals from both games have been running from.

Doesn't seem unlikely - something to terrify Advent/the Ethereals invading would qualify as "the real war". The alien insignia in the background is entirely new, and the alien itself appears to be another variant of sectoid - the eyes and their setting are different to either the XCOM Sectoid and the Pectoid, with more intelligence/malevolence in the expression.
Double-extra-crackpot theory: It also appears to be wearing armour/have a helmet (There is an overlay that looks like glass over its face and what might be the rim of a partially face concealing helmet a la the mechtoid down near the bottom of the picture) - Aquatoid? Are they really doing Vahlen From The Deep?
It says XCOM 2, so it's definitely not a separate game entirely, it's got to be an expansion. But if it's tftd that would have to be a second campaign after the first, given that ending to XCOM 2. Plus the whole "real war" business implies that this expansion will either be
A. A change to the base game to turn the XCOM 2 campaign into more content-rich experience, or
B. An entirely new campaign with as much content as the base game.
Option A doesn't really seem compatible with the underwater teaser at the end of XCOM 2, and option 2 doesn't really seem compatible with the idea of an expansion. If they were making a whole new game why not make an xcom 3 instead of tying it to XCOM 2 as an expansion? So I'm inclined to think it's not terror from the deep.
However, I made some assumptions here, maybe the XCOM2 label is just so they don't reveal it's a whole new game before it comes out. I will say that I'd love a modern XCOM in the tftd setting

I bet it's Eggsalt
None of you guys don't happen to have an idea on why beags stopped uploading his xcom streams?

Because he forgets and / or can't be bothered, basically.
Probably have to wait a few months for the xcom stuff to appear on YT.
