Oh my god I just had a random resistance mission where the Resistance basically won the mission by themselves

So this is a Commander Ironman run I'm on
I didn't manage to get a single supply crate on my first supply raid and had to abort because the Hunter showed up very quickly and I got swarmed by Lost. After the game decided to be completely absurd and not let me hit the Hunter with a grenade on the second floor of a building with a grenadier standing right next to the building, I basically decided to abandon the mission, and evacuated all but two soldiers. One of them got swarmed by lost and died, the other ran around the map until the Hunter made enough bad moves to get killed by the Lost. Then the final soldier (pictured) ran around the map being chased by 20 something Lost so picked up a stabilised corporal and evacuated
Conveniently, once the mob of Lost reached about 20, the Hunter just took every turn to pick one of them off.
If I didn't know any better, I would genuinely suggest that Firaxis is actually making what the AI detects that they can see and shoot through worse with every release
There was a retaliation mission I had where a single stun lancer killed 8 civs in one turn because he shot a propane tank instead of a civ. Bastard.
I feel like they really made every single mission type just wayyy more fun and interesting.
It's been a long time since I played the vanilla XCOM 2 campaign. Is there a way to switch a soldier's class after he's become a squaddie?
I remember the Guerrilla School being able to train rookies into a specific class, but was there something with the Advanced Warfare Center (which is now removed and replaced in WotC?)
I used to use a mod that honored the class you set in the character pool, but it hasn't been updated yet. Does anyone happen to know if there's a way in the game itself now?

Definitely! Very second mission I got was to [sp]rig a psionic transmitter to explode and had to blow up smaller nodes to increase the time limit.[/sp] It was really neat, but felt bad enabling the "double mission timer" option cause I probably could have easily finished the whole thing without [sp]even having to destroy the nodes[/sp]

Try doing one of those on a mission with The Lost in. You daren't shoot without blowing one of them up and attracting more of the misshapen monsters.
Good lord that was a stressful encounter

(grayed out text is very minor spoilers)
The worst part is that this was a mission without lost on it. I neglected to take a screencap of the end mission results of one, but I'm estimating it around 60-70 total contacts (4 alien pods puts too many lost to count).
I got two (two!) captain level grenadiers out of it, but at what cost?

God speed, you dumb balaclava motherfucker.
Skirmishers are total bros. I'd sit down and have an advent burger with them any day.
Skirmishers are total bros. I'd sit down and have an advent burger with them any day.
I'd avoid it, for all we know those Advent burgers are made out of defective Advent troops. You might be eating a cousin of his
well, i bought the game
fucking guaranteed it'll run like arse on my laptop (i3 / intelHD 5500 GFX card / 4gb ram)
if at ALL. but at least i have it :v:
Sooo... What the fuck do you against the assassin?
The first time she showed up out of the "tutorial" totally fucked me. Completely wiped my squad.
What's the deal with the cosmetics in customization? I was watching a streamer and I noticed his gear had symbols next to them (like the wotc symbol), but mine don't

It depends on the cosmetic.
Anyways, finally got my weapons to appear for the factions. Just need to do one final touch and we're golden:

The intro of the stealth faction, holy shit none of their rifles have sights.

Form up in a confined space and keep your soldiers within blue spaces. When she de-cloaks and stuns someone she runs away, but doesn't go invisible. You track her down then and attack.
Or you can just get lucky like me and have her do that on the top floor of an apartment building, then blow that floor up so she get's wrecked by the fall damage, Lost be damned.
You can also knock the cloaky stabby chosen out of stealth with a nice grenade. Then plaster her with bullets.
You just have to remember where she is, assuming she hasn't moved.

First time she showed up she critted dragunova immediately and I failed the mission.

They're just that good.

Mine goofed and crit my sharpshooter instead.

Can you at least set up overwatches to avoid this sort of thing, like the seekers in EW, or is there just an RNG chance that you automatically fail the mission?

Assassin (as far as I know) is always immune to overwatch. Literally nothing you can do.
Assassin (as far as I know) is always immune to overwatch. Literally nothing you can do.
Yeah, she has a trait called Shadowstep or something, immune to OW.

Yeah you just fail the mission, good news though on Ironman, they let you load the last save and its right before the assassin is introduced.

Gonna spoiler tag just in case, but [sp]if you're doing the story mission, she will always have Shadowstep. However, if you're playing with the lost/chosen intro mission turned off, her traits will randomly generate and she might not get Shadowstep.[/sp]

Fun fact: [sp]Vektors are compatible with Squadsight, which your Reapers can randomly generate in the XCOM tree...[/sp]

Or if you're lucky like me, you'll get a Chosen Assassin with a weakness to close quarters damage and she ends her turn right next to ALL of your team, my team was all piled up on top of the bridge you start, she ended the turn taking cover on the pillar right under us.
Suffice to say I found out that even if you do manage to get her health to zero, she's still scripted to run off.

Wow are there other examples of un-counterable stuff like this in the game? I like a lot of the content I've seen of this expansion but if there's other awful balance choices like this I might just pass on the pack altogether

Remember that the Chosen also have weaknesses in addition to strengths. For example, the story-mission assassin also usually has Shellshock iirc, and a rivalry with either reapers or skirmishers. Both of those let you deal extra damage, and if you use the right tactics you can take the assassin out in a couple of turns. I think the fastest I ever killed her was two turns, though I could have done it in one if I had made the right moves.
Also, all Chosen are immune to flash-bangs because they're so ability-centric. And (I've not confirmed this but it's been 100% for me thus far), should a Chosen summon any sort of troops, one of those troops has a loot drop.
