They really did a great job with balancing. The Chosen are tough to beat, but they never feel unfairly strong. With clever tactics and a bit of luck they're honestly not that bad.
Fairly sure it's a no for templar slashes, i think i've slashed a couple by now.
Wait, is the counter a dice roll ? Could've been just that.
Yeah, it's a dice roll. I've gotten pretty unlucky with it so far, because every time I've attempted to slash them, the Templar got parried.
Mutons can definitely counter Templar slashes, I've had a Templar get oneshot doing it.
Not as unlucky as this though.
Anyone test if Mutons can Counter-melee Templar slashes, Skirmisher Justices or [sp]Ranger using Assassin's Katana?[/sp]?
From what I've experienced Mutons can sometimes counter-melee templar slashes.
I've had a couple of times where they do counter the melee slash, and a few times where they don't counter the melee slash.
Might be down to rng though, go for the melee attack if you feel rng will favour you. Otherwise play it safe and go for a ranged attack.
Anybody else on AMD hardware noticing temperature spikes on the Avenger? I didn't have them on XCOM 2 and it doesn't happen in anything other than War of the Chosen. Usually have CPU/GPU Peaks of 70/75 but now I can have 85C.
Pssst kid!
Whoever thought setting the Templars pistol fire to 2 instead of 1 needs to be fired.
2 is always used for overwatch. Thank god I'm not on ironman.
This is my biggest frustration so far. Wish everything was consistent between soldiers, Ive fudged up a good chunk of missions because reload is a different key on one guy than the next.
I told myself I wouldn't get WotC until I beat XCOM once on ironman
But this is honestly fucking ridiculous. I don't know how you people do it. I know "It's XCOM!" and everything but holy shit how infuriating.
The Alien Leaders are terribly programmed and when they work they're absolutely stupid. I had a friend kill the archon king only for a new one to appear the next mission. Today, while 6 HP away from killing the viper king, it stops appearing and the next mission the berserker queen shows up instead. Which i eventually kill after its Muton minions both crit and kill two of my best soldiers.
I go into an Avatar facility mission and the Archon King of course shows up and devastates all of my soldiers (again I GET that it's supposed to be overpowered but this is just stupid. Being able to create a multi-target attack that's unavoidable mid-turn when soldiers might have already used their movement is absurd) and immediately after killing my best soldier makes the rift.
I still beat it but now I'm down to a bunch of rookies and have just lost my new guy carrying all the alien hunter gear and it's just not even fun anymore. The alien leaders are a mistake and I feel like once I get WotC it's only gonna get worse.
It's a shame too because I was SERIOUSLY getting into this today and it just went topsy turvy anymore and I just don't want to play for a while

You could try a campaign without alien hunters dlc.

He got a double kill from across the map, so I made him the posterboy for the mission. Priest was mind-merged with a stun lancer, and this fella had only a 6% chance to hit. :v:
I thought zombies were enough, but ghosts?
Clearly these aliens have no respect at all for the dead.

Aka Purifiers that explode into nothing can still get psi zombified.

I mean, yeah, but the stuff in the DLC is cool. It's just the leaders themselves that are absurd

Is there a good WOTC-compatible mod for giving the later tier armors Kevlar equivalents?
I hit tier 2 and was reminded how utterly awful that armor looks.

Eyyy, welcome back!
I'm kinda upset that the Templars don't have their own intro movie. Out of the three factions, they're the coolest (and arguably best).
I'm feeling a little frustrated right now, and I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or not. I've been fighting the Assassin pretty much since the game started, but about two or three in-game months ago one of my soldiers got captured and now Assassin's red bar is close to full. I'd REALLY like to do something about that, but none of the covert ops for the last couple months involved saving my captured soldier, and I can't storm her stronghold even though I'm 100% ready to do so because none of my soldiers have reached the rank of Major yet so I can't do that covert op.
The most frustrating thing about this is that I'm sure I'd have a Major by now if it weren't for that goddamn fatigue system. I can understand the devs not wanting me to bring my A-Team on every mission, but I think forcing me to choose between not using that soldier for ten days or taking a penalty because I used a solider in more than one mission is a little excessive. Is there some kind of way to lessen the effects of fatigue?
-nvm-

My first random propaganda poster looked like ISIS material, so I decided to roll with it.
Yay some free time and all my essential mods are updated for WOTC, time to kick some ayys around once again!
Except for some reason my old nemesis returned - a weird performance issue where after like 10 minutes of playing the game decides to shit its pants: FPS starts dropping, sinking, stutter appears out of nowhere and the audio starts getting all kinds of messed up - stutters, crackles, skips, gets warped. And here I am, thinking reinstalling the game clean for WOTC will make everything smooth.
Worst part is that I don't remember how I fixed it last time. Launched the game without any mods with clean configs - and it only so much as given me around 10 extra minutes before it starts getting unbearable. Screwing around with in-game graphics options does precisely nothing to mitigate the issue, only affecting the overall FPS. It also fails to validate 2 files if I verify the cache after every launch.
So, by chance anyone has any idea why that could be? Any suggestion would be appreciated.
So I tried exiting the game, when the game decided to instead crash and would you look at that, my save file is just gone. Completely gone without a trace. 3 IRL days worth of campaign, gone.

Whatever, fuck it, starting it this time with the Facepunch squad and some cosmetics. Hope you guys bring good luck.

I hope the Million Colours mod will be updated soon so it looks more matching, but I'm glad the helmet sits just right with the Templars. Now I wish Injustice 2 mobile had all Doctor Fate voicelines from consoles so I can make a full voicepack.

Are they fucking joking me with this mission? I'm supposed to defend this pylon, and in the building that I have to get to, there's eight faceless.
This is like the fourth proper mission I have done. EIGHT FACELESS.
My 15+ hour campaign basically came to an abrupt end in 5 minutes today because I severely underestimated and misunderstood how the battle against the Chosen in their regeneration chamber works. Up to that point, the mission had been completely smooth sailing, with barely a scratch on any of my men, and half of my resources remaining.
I killed the Chosen assassin at one end of the map after she spawned, and as a result this put her back in the sarcophagus. It skipped my mind that the best strategy would be to try destroy the sarcophagus first, so I had to run my squad back down the other side of the map to take shots at it. It took the combined firepower of 3 guys who could reach it two turns to destroy it. I also wasn't aware that trying to destroy the Sarcophagus before the Chosen regenerates is futile because it takes them only 3 turns to fully regenerate. You might as well try just try fight them from full health again.
While regenerating, the game dumped three heavy MEC's on me and an Archon. I killed the Archon. One of the MEC's grenaded two of my best men, and the other two MEC's killed those men outright in one shot each. The Assassin used her auto-cripple/stun that never misses and gives her a free move on another soldier. The two men that died from the MEC's were the bond mates of two other soldiers, who went Berserk.
Maybe, just maybe I could have scraped back a narrow and bloody victory had I not missed 3 seperate 80%~ shots in the new few turns, and assumed that suppression works on the assassin because in the wording for that ability "overwatch" and "reaction shot" are completely absent.
Also, since you only ever get one chance to kill a particular Chosen for good, even trying to continue with my other A-team is a waste of time, because between the imminent Avenger Defence and having the assassin show up in the final mission I don't see the point
Ok, can Chosen please stop showing up on Lost maps. The Assassin completely cockblocked my first (and so far, only) supply raid when she beat my ranger into a crumpled, slowly bleeding-out mess and had to emergency evact. Bending Reed'ing herself across the map, behind full cover, made her a massive pain in the ass to shoot, since blowing it up is a non-option in the swarm.
Ditto for Hunter in a VIP/Escort extract, but at least he's a lot easier to pin down and kill. Also, bullshit 'the mounted turret fends of Lost'; 2-3 swarms popped out RIGHT ON TOP of the VIP. Luckily, they both were very polite and neither attacked the VIP while his turret was up, so there's that.
I will say, though, mission variety is really cool now! None of the missions I've taken were anything like vanilla. That said, I do miss the old maps and not having to deal with Lost after two of them in a row lol
Was overwatch bugged on beagle's stream or is that actually the way it is now?
The resistance fighters during haven assaults don't fuck around.
Had a mission where only 1 civilian died, as the resistance fighters had dealt with like 90% of the enemies.
My squad did jackshit during that haven assault.
Also has anyone actually seen the Chosen Assassin use the shotgun?
I've only seen the assassin use it when it got the perk to return fire if a shot misses them.

That thing's a shotgun? I thought it was a marksmans rifle sorta like the Reapers Vektor.
And yeah I've seen them use it once. However for me the the Assassin much rather loves to sprint across the whole map, sucker punch one of my dudes in the dick, then sprint back across the map again out of line of sight.
The resistance fighters are the best,
I've had them more or less solo the Assassin for me while I was pinned down nowhere near her.
