I wish LL actually added C# support I'd love to program simple shit for pocket change, I'm just not willing to program in a language based around doors opening and closing.
Sansar is supposed to be C#. I wish I could learn it in advance, I've tried beginner tutorials a few times and it seems like a nice language, but I just don't have any motivation or ideas for small projects that aren't way beyond my knowledge of just super basic console apps. The convenience of web dev and LSL spoiled me.

If you want to learn C# in a fun way, then check out Unity.
well no one in sl knows how to optimize models combined with 2003 backbone = fun times for your cpu
Hey, I try to optimize. I try to employ game design logic to my creations. Sadly most of SL seems to think uploading a 1 billion poly car from a cgi site is a ok. And then complain mesh uploading costs too much and mesh lags them.
[t]https://my.mixtape.moe/kdalkd.jpg[/t] [t]https://my.mixtape.moe/dtmtcd.jpg[/t] the textures can't even load all the way. i'm just zooming in on random objects.
I have to wonder how much L$ was wasted in uploading those meshes.
well no one in sl knows how to optimize models combined with 2003 backbone = fun times for your cpu
I've employed making sure my workflow is comparable to Half-Life polycount wise, and no mesh I've uploaded has been more than like, 1-2 prims Learn to bake normals, and make the most of textures, people.

Coming from Source as well I follow that mantra as much as possible. I heavily use materials (normal/specular), even if it means some residents have a different experience due to having potato computers.
[t]https://my.mixtape.moe/kdalkd.jpg[/t] [t]https://my.mixtape.moe/dtmtcd.jpg[/t] the textures can't even load all the way. i'm just zooming in on random objects.
so much detail and yet they have no material channels. SIGH
so much detail and yet they have no material channels. SIGH
Yeah, it's a pretty severe epidemic in SL. If everyone applied game content creation notions to making stuff in SL, I'd suspect everything would significantly increase in performance, stability, and beauty. My biggest beef is people using blended alpha for no fucking reason. I've seen some grass objects that have such severe overdraw with blended alpha that it brings top-tier GPUs to their knees, or causes them to combust from such extreme load that it puts furmark to shame. One of my other peeves is poor scaling. The default avatar size is about 7-8ft. The camera seriously skews scale perception. All of my stuff is so tiny compared to everyone else's because I try to build to scale.
smoothing errors or high detail?
It appears to be a smoothing error, like split faces. You have to manually create smoothing groups by splitting faces off from the mesh, it looks like that's what they did.
Yeah, it's a pretty severe epidemic in SL.
Yeah I should just add that to the list of things that piss me off™: • generally anything that lacks basic material channels • prefab houses/buildings with baked shadows from a specific angle • things that are "shiny" but just have specular highlights baked onto the diffuse texture • things that are sold with a fullperm heightmap texture with the intent that the customer will make a proper bump map out of it • fullbright on things that aren't a light source • a distinct lack of emissive masks on things that would greatly benefit from it • BONUS: The fact that LL made it so the specular "glossiness" setting doesn't apply its fresnel to the "environment" setting as well, resulting pretty much everything metallic looking like varying degrees of chrome. [editline]17th December 2016[/editline] basically i'm angry about 3D content creators in my 2003 shitposting simulator
SL normie sectors terrify me i just wanted a exclusive AO
SL normie sectors terrify me i just wanted a exclusive AO
I tend to stay to myself or stay among scripting buddies. Anytime I pop my head out of my home or friend's plot, it's nothing but cancer. Way back when, you could talk to people in clubs and have a good time. Nowadays, people are dead silent statues of afkers. No one talks in local chat much anymore. It's actually really depressing.
i downloaded this semi recently and have been exploring various places for a bit of lul. are there any places legit worth going? all i've found are empty sims and fetish clubs with 5 people in them
get yourself a simhopper and roll the dice until you hit a goldmine.
Spent all day looking for a reasonable 1-prim mesh wall clock that didn't look obnoxiously stupid, gave up: [t]https://i.sn3p.top/d55no.png[/t] Basically we are tasked with making everything ourselves because everyone else makes it shitty. What a great game.
GOOD USE OF EMISSIVE MASK BRAVO A+ 👏👏👏
Does anyone know if there's someone out there who'd take L$ to make me a rigged mesh (likely for the kemono avatar)?
kichaza might take a kemono commission.

Seriously, just about everything I find on SL is garbage script-wise. I'm thinking that maybe my skills are being wasted if I keep creating scripts that are significantly better than the majority of them out there.
