So, what is the overall opinion on the game?
Does it live up to the hype? Or is it like Yooka Laylee where it's not really great.
From what I saw in NitroRad's review it seems to live up but I am not sure, haven't played it, looks like fun and I am interested but as money is tight, I don't want to end up buying something that isn't good.
Yeah, if you didn't follow the Kickstarter or preordered the Deluxe Edition it was kinda hard to tell if the game was progressing. I think if they had done more frequent youtube videos it would have put some people at ease. Especially considering the infamy of Kickstarter. Those that did get the Deluxe really saw progress with the Alpha and Beta. I only wish I could have experienced the very early prototype.
If you want to see how far the game has gone, I would check out Brutalmoose's prototype video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DmBipY4CCo (I hope they re add the Mafia Town prototype music as an unlockable.)
Yeah, I was one that did the alpha/beta game option, and oh man you could see the difference. Hell I spent like 12 hours on just the Beta alone (it gave you all of World 1 missions, including the secret levels and a Free Roam), 1 from World 2 and 2 from World 3, and a Beta Challenge Stage (aka Champion's Road from Galaxy 2).

Definitely lives up to the hype. Better control, fun and fast-pace platforming, surprisingly hilarious context jokes (doesn't break the 4th wall to make jokes, which is better). This puts Yooka-Laylee to shame.
The reference and easter eggs has been top-notch, I already found 3: (Don't read if you don't want to get spoiled on some cool reference) [sp]Alucard/Dracula (Castlevania) color palette, Link (Wind Waker) color palette and Super Mario RPG's Geno Special Attack[/sp]
Just got through World 1 and did a few of the Time Rift stages, I'm in love with this game. The controls feel super tight and some of the hat skins you can get look great.
Also KnightRider is right the humor is on point :v:

Wasn't there coop announced for this game? They said it would release with it. I can't seem to find any mention of it anymore.

Kickstarter goals if I recall. They're post release stretch goals for local and online.
This is Mecha's redemption. Good on him, and excellent game.

They did, it's going to be a free update later on. We're also getting 2 more Chapters (Worlds) also.
Game can be modded already so we should be getting the Steam Workshop tomorrow, as we're supposed to have official mods already.
So whats the over under on dirt involving the game because while I kind of want to try it I heard the main guy behind it is, to quote, "A huge piece of shit."
Or at least was? I'm kinda unclear if I wanna support it so would like someone to clear the air for me please?

I swear this conversation happens everytime Hat in Time is brought up.
Long story short, a guy called Mecha and MaxOfS2D had an issue where Mecha was stealing copyright over assets Max made for his TF2 gamemode Parkour Fortress (Scout skins and animations, etc).
This happened after they started going on bad terms and Max wanted out, Mecha realized Max didn't file a copyright over the assets yet so he did it himself.
What Mecha did at the time was pretty scummy but that shouldn't dictate your decision on rather you wanna buy this game or not. The incident happened years ago and Mecha isn't the only guy who worked on this game.
Would be unfair to not give the game a go just cause 1 guy from the team was a scumbag back then.
I agree/disagree and ultimately think I'll give the game a shot soon
Only thing that slightly urks me is "it happened years ago so it should be forgiven." Like I assume he hasn't done anything like that sense but I don't like the idea that if you keep your head down thieving is okay. (That being said if Mecha + Max have made up or came to a understanding years ago who am I to try to carry that candle)
E: Won't bring it up again so discussion of the actual game can happen.
Beat the game, what an absolute blast. That finale was amazing. However, it does bring one thing to my mind.
Ending Spoilers and somewhat spoilers for the beta/alpha build.
[sp]So, in the beta/alpha at the end we see Hat Kid as a grown up leaving a book store(?) and then it shows the credits. Not sure if anyone knows if adult Hat Kid has been cut or not but I was kinda hoping to see her in the final build. Maybe it's a 100% completion thing?[/sp]
Anyway, time to go for that 100% completion. What a fantastic game this turned out to be, I am so glad I supported the team back in 2014.

How long did it take you to beat the game?
Only thing that slightly urks me is "it happened years ago so it should be forgiven.
Not trying to say it should be forgiven, just saying that it's kind of unfair for the rest of the team involved in this game. Lets just enjoy/discuss the game for what it is instead of talking about this one stupid incident from back then, that isn't even related to the game itself.
How long did it take you to beat the game?
Took me about seven hours, including breaks. It helps that since I played the beta/alpha I knew most of the levels and was able to complete them, fairly quickly. Since like a lot of 3D platformers you only need a certain amount to get the final boss. That amount being [sp]25[/sp]. However, I made sure to at least have all the acts completed in each Chapter before I did the final.
Edit: I remember when this Mecha/Max thing happened, and it went on for a few years. I recall that when Hat in Time was in the prototype stages, people were still vocal about that. I think that enough time has passed that we can move on and judge this game without that past experience.
Lets just enjoy/discuss the game for what it is instead of talking about this one stupid incident from back then, that isn't even related to the game itself.
Basically this.
Oh man, I'm having a blast so far.
Already did all of Mafia Town (to the extent the game gives from the get go) and it's so much fun. This arrived at the perfect time, needed something to fill in part of October waiting for Mario Odyssey.
And here's something I drew while waiting for the game earlier.

They did a wonderful job and I can't wait to explore the next chapters.
[sp]Also, the lava act in Mafia Town gave me flashbacks of Pinata Village in Sunshine. These devs have a sick sense of humor![/sp]
They started uploading the soundtrack to youtube

They were pretty much active on Twitter throughout the entire development cycle. They were posting gameplay videos of new features and worlds. And they posted trailers for the alpha and beta too. Dunno man I always saw the game making progress and I don't know how people expect to see it if they don't attempt to look.
This game is lovely
Oh my god, the music in this game is fucking amazing! I have yet encounter a song that is "meh", all of the one I have heard so far has been top-notch.
alright alright u fellas sold me the game
I'll join in the fun tomorrow
Figures that when the game finally comes out I can't play it for a week.

If I recall correctly they got Grant Kirkhope to do a few songs for the game?
I can't remember if I'm getting it mixed up with Yooka Laylee but I could've swore a long time ago they got Grant on to do a few songs.

As far as im aware there are a few guest composers that did 1 or 2 songs, but i think besides that all the music is made by a single guy. Here's his youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/Plasma3Music
Most importantly he made this remix which is just the best shit ever
For anyone who hasn't been convinced to get this game, Two Words.
Kiss. Button.

The Spaceship Hub music is the one that Grant Kirkhope composed, you can really feel that Banjo-Kazooie vibe. I believe he only did one or two songs.

Out of town?
So how much content is in the game currently? I know 2 worlds are being added later in a free(?) update but I'm not sure if I should wait for the full package or if it's okay jumping into it now.
I love a lot of indie games but I'm getting sick of finally getting into a gameplay groove only for a game to abruptly end. (Steamworld 2 being the most recent)

Lets see...
- I'm at 47% completion and I'm already at 7 hours in. I'll say 12-14 hours if your trying to to 100% it, if not it'll be like 8-10 hours just to finish the game.
- The game as of now has 5 Worlds with a total of [sp] 40 [/sp] Hourglass, with 2 World being as Free DLC (for everyone, not just for backer).
- It can be fully modded from the get-go, like everything according to GearsForBreakfast. So you can make new missions, worlds, character models, storyline, you name it. So it'll be soon enough that people will start putting the inevitable Super Mario Sunshine Secret Level as mods. I don't recall if there's going to be a Hub World in the game where you can search up custom-made levels. Steam Workshop for it SHOULD be open by now.
