One of my favorite features is that the passport picture becomes your save file picture. I tried out that challenge myself, it's entirely doable without ever touching the space bar/A button.
The reference in this game is fucking top-notch. I've seen Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario: Thousand-Year Door (lots of this one), Psychonauts and just noticed a Metal Gear Solid 2's Tanker reference too. So... [sp]the prince whom Vaness killed.. that's totally Snatcher, right? Because the page you find in the Time Rift, where the prince is chained up in a dungeon, looks an awful lot like Snatcher.[/sp]

In the beta, I think it was meant to be the Moonjumper since Snatcher comes to the house looking for "beef" on Moonjumper. When ever Snatcher would bring him something from th house, Moonjumper would "wet the bed in fear". Plus it makes sense considering that Snatcher "owns" the forest. He most likely was going to rule most of the land if he became King.[/sp] Also, I replayed the Vanessa chapter and noticed that at the end of the level... [sp]that Mooncatcher's face is on the wall. I wondered if any trace of him was going to be in the final build.[/sp]
I'm sad now that I finished it 100%.
i only just unlocked the second world but damn this game is cute and looks really good.

late game spoilers: [sp]is there a way to replay the infection level on alpine skyline? that level fuckin rules[/sp]

[sp]aka do all of the islands again[/sp]

If I wanted silent dialogue I would read a book. Got a feeling that the guys at Gamespot get told that they have to leave some bad points even if they can't find any, that's at least what this feels like.

This, however, is not one of those times.

However, the voice actors are great, and some of them being over the top adds to the charm of the game. I would not like characters like the Conductor, Snatcher or the Mafia Boss if it wasn’t for their fantastic voice acting. The game being silent would just take away from the experience.
Was there going to be even more playable Mustache girl segments? While she controls exactly like Hat Kid, she has her own voice set for her moves and whatnot. Although I do vaguely remember Mustache girl being a co-op partner at one point.
there was a couple of other Mu sections planned out I think, but they were never a priority

Ya'll are rabid over any criticism. The overbearing VO sometimes got to me as well, I'd knock the game for it and I gave it an 8.
I'd say the voiceacting adds to the game more than detracts from it. "A MEEERRRDERRR?"
The only voice I'm against is mustache gurl, most others are splendid.

Seriously it's so fucking bad in that game oh my god.
And the best part is that you can buy a badge that changes the voice acting to a Banjo-Kazooie level of babbling. It's a tad expensive, 800 pons. I'd love to see a new game plus or a way to start the game with a few badges, like the 1-life badge. I'd be down for trying to replay the entire game without taking a single hit.
Ya'll are rabid over any criticism. The review literally says "silence is better" when there's an option to mute it. It's objectively a non-issue. If you're going to mark points off of Hat in Time, you should mark them off for things such as the occasional physics bugs. Stuff that is actually an issue and messes with the experience. [vid]https://clips-media-assets.twitch.tv/136901154.mp4[/vid] This is something that would cause to game to get a 7/10. Not optional voice acting. But nah, I'm rabid over any criticism when I can easily criticize the game myself.
Also... how does 'I don't like the VA and one level was eh' take 3 points off? The game isn't perfect, but like, those are the points you raise?
Also... how does 'I don't like the VA and one level was eh' take 3 points off? The game isn't perfect, but like, those are the points you raise?
Point scoring is so weird, we’ve had cons such as; “Too much water” or in IGN’s review of Persona they didn’t list any cons but gave it a 9.7 It’s funny, reasonable criticism of this game can be seen in other videos, like some graphical issues with faces, camera issues in certain areas or physics going out of wack. However, knocking a game down for voice acting (optional at that), and Mafia Town being uninspired (it has some Sunshine influences but there’s a lot that makes it unique.) That review is just silly.
Also... how does 'I don't like the VA and one level was eh' take 3 points off? The game isn't perfect, but like, those are the points you raise?
One world out of a total of 4 at the time of writing. That's essentially 25% of the game. Also, the option to turn VA off is there, but it's on by default. You don't review a game based on options, you review based on the intended way to play which is the defaults.
Games shouldn't be an automatic 10, with each con subtracting the score. A simple game, enjoyable on the surface, lacking any notable fault, shouldn't score as well as a juggernaut with a few passable flaws. I'm not saying that Hat in Time deserves a 7, but saying that "how is 2 shitty cons constitute 3 points penalty" is a bit silly. Scores are a little flexible (and biased). Maybe read the entire review for a change.
Also, the option to turn VA off is there, but it's on by default. You don't review a game based on options, you review based on the intended way to play which is the defaults.
That doesn't make any sense. Having options improves a game's quality. Being able to turn off the voice acting makes the game better because it allows people who don't like the voiceacting to turn it off. Having color blind options improves a game's quality because it allows color blind people to get the same visual experience as others. Having an option to turn subtitles on or off, etc etc. If my game launches at 800x600 does that mean I should just leave it like that because it's "the default?" No. Options are there to be used. If you ignore them, you're ignoring a key feature of the game. When you review a game you absolutely acknowledge key features. Otherwise what the hell are you reviewing?
