I kinda feel like you guys expected a bit much from it. It was just a little bonus that they included for those who love the characters, and it was just a 1 episode thing. There is pretty much no way you can get a LiS Story inside 1 episode. Tho that isn't me saying it's perfect, would have liked a little bit more.
So did Max not remember [sp]her future self taking over her and forcing herself not to hide the car keys? Was it just kinda like a blackout for her where she doesn't remember anything? The bonus episode is probably like 30 mins to an hour after it happened.[/sp] Here's a clip: https://youtu.be/67MMVtWnWyI?t=1m51s

We don't get time powers or anything in the bonus episode, so nothing really leads me to believe that we're adult(ish) Max that has gone back.[/sp]

I know she doesn't have powers now, but that's where time travel gets a little confusing. In the bonus episode she doesn't act like she has willingly allowed William go to his death, or that she had a 5 minute blackout before if she couldn't remember it. This being the 'original' timeline before time travel fucked with things would make the most sense. [/sp]
I guess I am guilty of over hyping it ever since it was announced. Even though I haven't played an LiS game for almost a year now, part of me still doesn't want to let go of the characters. max in particular.
I know I'm super late to the party but I just played and finished the original LiS story, picked it up for $5 over the weekend. I haven't bawled like that in a while and honestly the ending of episode 5 kind of made me feel like shit [sp](I actually sacrificed arcadia bay at first but I went back and did the other again on another slot... Neither of them feel 'right' to me)[/sp] but I still loved every minute of it. Is Before the Storm worth it?
Is Before the Storm worth it?
I honestly say yeah, it is. It expands upon Rachel and Chloe. It also puts the future events of LiS in a different perspective. Don't go in expecting anything like S1, and don't go in expecting it to explain EVERYTHING about Rachel/Chloe. And as you can see from most of the community responding to Farewell, don't expect anything incredible. But it really is worth your time if you like LiS. It's like a Diet version of LiS. It's not exactly like S1 but it tickles that urge for more.
It manages to recreate the atmosphere and feel of the first season which is great. It truly feels like you're back in Arcadia bay. Only downside for me is that the new voice takes a little getting used to.

Probably because it's a while since I played the last one.
...How could you not tell. How. Like the new VA does a good job, but she sounds NOTHING remotely like Ash Burch
...How could you not tell. How. Like the new VA does a good job, but she sounds NOTHING remotely like Ash Burch
Because I've been doing a lot of other things since to even think about comparing the two with the time between both games. Was only until I continued with Horizon Zero Dawn to realise it wasn't the same person.
IMO, there were some things with pacing and inflection that made the change in VA noticeable, but nothing heinous like people claim. I didn't really notice the difference til I played Farewell, where you can very clearly tell a difference. Up til then, I just dismissed it by the difference in character age.
Christ the part with Elliot in episode 3 is so fucking bad. What were the writers thinking? Then again, I wondered what they were thinking a lot of times in BtS Just leave LiS to dontnod please. I love season 1 with all my heart and I get furious when people dismiss it as "cringe worthy high school trash" but this shit? Its objectively awful. I'm glad I held off playing this. Everything about it, the dialogue the voice acting, the animation is just :vomit:

Chloe and Rachel are like, maybe 15? 16? Who wasn't a weird piece of shit back then. As far as animation, I actually think it was slightly better - or at least, more nuanced? I can't remember many times in season 1 where Max or Chloe really had emotions besides a sad-eyed Jaden Smith expression, but I definitely remember BtS having a few details here and there like a quirked eyebrow that felt realer than the first. Though, to be honest, both games could use some polish in that regard - it's a trivial example, but when a character picks something up the object really shouldn't just float between their fingers, especially since there's no variation between games that they need to account for like character customization. .. but also to be fair, episode 3 of BtS is the fuckin pits basically. "hey yeah sure I'll go sneak into the DA's house, tamper with and destroy evidence, completely upend their investigation, and also leave the door open when I enter, all because this girl I met a few days ago wants to meet someone"
Snip
LiS is the same way though. Have to use Collector Mode to skip.
Huh, I actually forgot that you could only skip dialogue that you rewinded. I could've sworn that you could skip almost everything. Either the LiS dialogue is more bearable than BtS or they spoke faster because I don't recall having a want for the skip option nearly this much
I got the feeling that LiS feels "better" than BtS because it is easier to sympathize with Max who seems much more rational, than Chloe, who is defiant and reckless. Presentation-wise I think both of them are almost on par.
They went so fucking overboard with the licensed music in BtS. Whenever you heard it in the original game, you knew it was a big deal and an emotional milestone in the game. deck nine just decided to say "fuck that, let's include a song in every other cutscene."
God that entire Elliot sequence in the final episode feels like a massive strawman argument for anyone who is critical of Rachel and Chloe's relationship. Yeah he's a crazy piece of shit, but oh my god Rachel's entire point in the original story is to be Laura Palmer, a deeply troubled teen with a dark history that overcompensated to feel -something- due to the trauma she has faced. Which is why she turns to drugs, sleeping around, and taking many, many romantic relationships that may or may not have been genuine. She was -designed- to be this dual character and BtS completely misses that
i think it was just their attempt to close out the story of a side character we met in ep1 yet it was just done so horribly
Has anyone played "Farewell"? Is it any good? I've heard it's about an hour long, but is it an enjoyable hour at least?
its worth it if you were a fan of the main game and want to see them one last time. don't go in expecting an actual "farewell episode" ala mass effect 3 citadel though. it's more of a mini-episode.
