IMO it's not the 3DS's "fault" that there's a lack of content, because I felt like Gold/Silver were jam-packed with having two regions back on the GBC. And Emerald had the whole Battle Frontier on the GBA.
It was Game Freak for not developing the extra content, not the system holding them back saying "we couldn't include this."
The only reason why Gold and Silver were jampacked due to Satoru Iwata doing wizardry with the coding. Game Freak wasn't even able to put Johto into Gold and Silver and asked him to look into the coding. When he was done, they were able to include Johto and were even able to put in Kanto from the first game. They also called him Superman, afaik.

Hardware tends to get deals and becomes less expensive as time goes on. I expect a price slash of at least 50$ in about 4-6 months.

The only limit reached in terms of pure gameplay features on the 3DS was the fact that CTR carts can only hold up to 4GB roms and the stock (micro)SD is only 4GB. Even then there's still like 800mb to spare in SM and there are some scrapped maps and such in the romfs.
The graphics were held back by the O3DS, but a lot of that was triple battles and the outline shader. Disabling outlines gives way smoother framerate, and it sucks that it wasn't an option available by default.
Graphics were kind of hold back by their (right) decision to create all the models of characters and pokemon in high quality and then downscaling them for the 3DS.
But now they can use all those models in best quality on Switch and don't need to recreate everything again. I really hope they break out of their current formula for once and offer things like rotating camera for example.
Been saying for quite a while this gen feels like gen V. Of course we'd be switching to the next console in short notice. We only need to datamine USUM to see if there is any new mythicals there, to see if next summer we get another gen VII film, or if we start getting gen VIII omens.

Switch is their best designed console ever. It's modern, sleek, comfortable to hold and a miles over the designs of the Wii, Wii U, 64 and Gamecube.

Some docks were slightly bent inwards which caused them to scratch the screen.

if there's one feature I'd like it would be for the game corner to return, not as the Casino it was before, but as the Arcade it should be where you get prize tickets instead of spendable coins and the games are more like what you'd find in Stadium, Stadium 2, Pokepark, pokepark 2, and Pokeathalon from Heart Gold ans Soul Silver. Each play would cost either 25 poke-yen (25 cents) or a new arcade currency that would still require the coin case, Tokens.
Tokens would not be able to be exchanged directly for the prizes, you have to win the tickets.
