Isn't it supposed to be triumphant though, what with you almost having them beaten?
Yeah, although considering that their last Pokemon is almost always the strongest, and the fact that you might also be down a few, a theme that represents your opponent's frantic last stand seems like a way better idea than "gg you won: the theme".
I'd have liked it if they did it how Banjo Kazooie did theme changes, where it's the same theme, but different beats.
They seriously should play around with the music more often; if you're playing a Nuzlocke and that music shift kicks in, it basically feels like those parts in Gurren Lagann where the theme would kick in during the climax of a fight. Like I keep saying, they've basically perfected their gameplay. There's not much more you can do to make the core battling gameplay of Pokemon work better beyond some balancing here and there. Considering how powerful the Switch is, they should focus less on reinventing the wheel and more on building atmosphere. Not even necessarily through sheer graphical power, but through scale and scope and all the things you can use (like lighting and music) to help enhance those features. Take the Pokemon experience we all imagined we were having when we played Crystal on our Gameboy Colors and make it a reality now. Make it feel like an exploratory adventure and not a linear path from A to B to C (go to gym, fight Team Whatever, do story beat, recieve box legendary, beat Elite Four, etc.) and bring back shit like Berry Pots and the Battle Frontier while you're at it.
If the past titles are anything to go by they'll focus on add 4 new features and systems that won't carry over to the next games.
I wonder how many ideas can they half bake before the entire experience turns into either a bloated or halfassed experience. I would be completely fine if the "new gameplay features" were just expanding on regional variants and mega evolutions. The postgame can add only so many new features they'll teach you and you'll not utilize.
I can understand the idle animations feeling samey. It's one chore to make 649 animated sprites (1/2 of which were reused from Generation IV), but making 721 high-quality 3D models from scratch is a whole other beast in itself. With the models made now, however, they are well able to do a pass and touch up what they couldn't do back then.

I kind of disliked the low HP theme. It worked in normal battles but when I'm in a big, important battle and the music goes from a "Yeah! Final fight! >:D" to "uh-oh, spaghetios, better heal! ;(" It felt too jarring, and then you healed and it... Vanished. Okay! All better. No worries a- uh-oh, spaghetios. gotta heal ;(. Or then your Pokemon fainted and it went away back to the regular music. I wouldn't mind a "you're on your last Pokemon" music that took the current battle theme and transposed it to a minor key or down a half step to give it a tonal change but keep the same theme that was already there. That said, the "opponent's last pokemon" theme was fine. It reminds me of animes or such when the hero is giving the final push to break through and ultimately defeat the enemy, which is exactly is what's happening.

Casual gamers don't waste money on new consoles. Remember the Wii U debacle. Game Freak once again proves they don't know what to do with their cash cow.
Game Freak hasn't proven anything yet. All we have is a leaked title and a 4chan post that can't be confirmed. Let's just wait and see before we start throwing fits.
While I think it's obvious that Gamefreak likes to pander to Genwunners, I'd be stunned to see them pander to a demographic that is so casual that they actually think Gen 4 is a hoax designed to throw people off the scent of the next GO update, despite Diamond and Pearl having come out over a decade ago. Like, implementing unskippable tutorial sections because today's kids are too inept to figure out a simple rock-paper-scissors balance system, I get. But holy hell, "Darkrai is a fake leak, these Alolan forms are the REAL Gen 4" is something else entirely. Literally all we have to support that 4chan leak is the fact that Serebii retweeted it and both Pikachu and Eevee are on the company website (which was updated last summer). That's it. I'm not gonna say it's impossible, but saying that the mainline RPG games are gonna try to be more like Pokemon GO of all things sounds like a monumental stretch.
But what if these aren't meant to be mainline pokemon games? Maybe they're legit but just spinoffs.
See now this I can totally buy. They're really gonna have to sell me if this ends up just being "something to tide everyone over until Gen 8 proper".
Well, seeing trading between 3DS and Switch may be impossible, this is for all intents and purposes a new gen. ... Please don't let them take the "no trades" approach from Go. Nobody likes that.
You guys still believe the LGP/E leaks? The logos were confirmed Fake, and the Domains were squatted, not made by Nintendo (btw don't go to them, they have Malware and shit now) And even if they are real, there has been a bunch more leaks that explain the GO Mechanics. So far the use for GO is just being a Pokewalker and Transferring pokemon between LGP/E and GO. And catching pokemon, but in the sense you just flick the screen/joycon to through a Pokeball. So pretty much does barely anything to the gameplay itself.
If you are considering bingeing the series I personally would suggest playing the the original releases instead of the remake so you can get a grip on how far Pokemon has come (and able to come up with a point when others say that Pokemon has been stagnant forever). Pick the "definitives" of each era: Yellow, Crystal, Emerald, Platinum, B/W, B2/W2, X/Y, Ultra. Play the remake if you are fond of that particular gen. Don't play it in reverse, older games don't age well.
I don't really care about seeing how far Pokemon has come tho, or how it's gotten Stagnant. I just care about having a good time.
B/W1+2 for uniqueness and pixel art prime USUM for the latest advancement the rest are good to ignore because they're treading past same-y old grounds.
Ignore the rest? What do you mean by that.
I personally feel that most Pokemon games are built and improved in an incremental fashion. If you experienced the latest, the older titles can feel limited and dated. I think this is why they introduced some gimmick side-activity for every game but I don't think they contribute enough "uniqueness". If you are wanderlust then I suppose it wouldn't hurt to play every game. If I've got a friend wanting to get into mainline pokemon games, that's what I would introduce to them, start from the classic or go for the latest. explore older regions only out of curiosity.
That's why I plan to do Pokemon Yellow, HeartGold, AS/OR (Don't know which yet), Platinum, Black/White, Black2/White2, Pokemon X, Ultra Sun/Moon
Why yellow when you could play FRLG?
In case you've forgotten, legit Shiny Zygarde in June. https://youtu.be/JYYsy6ny1g0
Cause I own Yellow, my brother fixed the cartridge, and I have childhood memories of it.
plus broken gen 1 mechanics can be fun from time to time victreebel taking on everything with stun spore/wrap/razor leaf/hyper beam is pretty fun
