Plus I don't like the Smuggler/IA's cover mechanic all too much. I like being extremely active when I play ala Bounty Hunter.
Highest DPS of tanks, stick a guard on a healer/dps that's squishy. Fuck *loads* of CC makes you amazing for holding points too, not to mention force push makes for some great displacement.
Your force charge/intercede also makes you baller-god tier for huttball.
TL;DR fuck yes they do, try it sometime.
They aren't the highest DPS of the tank classes. They are actually the lowest. PT/VG tanks are the highest in PvP. I play with a couple of Powertech tanks who regular crank around 1Mil damage and 800-1Mil protection. After PTs, Sins/Shadows are going to be highest because of the AoE nature of their attacks, and being able to Maul/Shadow Strike without having to be behind. PvP damage in regs is all about who can do the most AoE damage. Damage numbers don't mean that much though, killing blows are much more important. You can do all the damage in the world, but if you can't drop the target then you aren't doing much for the team. This is one of the reasons PTs are just so much better, they have the burst to go along with their defense when played right. This is also why you see PT tanks almost exclusively in ranked, and no Juggs.
Don't get me wrong, I have mained Guardian/Jugg tank for the majority of this game's life, and I do a LOT of pvp. Jugg is more than viable in PvP. My average games are ~950k Protection, and around ~500k damage.
I'd play Scoundrel but you can unleash your DPS on PvP only. In flashpoints and other group content you gonna have to be a healer. Fuck that.
Lethality Operatives/Dirty Fighting Scoundrels are one of the highest parsing DPS classes in the game for Operations. 3800+ DPS are some of the average high parses right now. They were beating Marauders until the Dotsmash spec was discovered, as well as the SA relic bug. Invinc, the leader of Dulfy's guild mains a DPS Operative, and they have cleared all the current content, including the Nightmare time runs and secret bosses.

Cover mechanic is only for the Sniper/Slinger. Once you become an Operative/Scoundrel, you never use it again.
Honestly the cover mechanic is pretty sweet. With entrench or whatever it's called you can cheese a lot of mechanics. It can get annoying with certain fights with a lot of movement (like that one asshole dread master with a reflection shield), but otherwise it's nice. It gets better at higher levels.

So I can make Lethality Oper and keep being DPS all the time - on heroics, FPs, WZs, etc? If so I might actually make a Scoundrel female, get puffy jacket and keep making Corso jealous.
lethality does hilarious damage, even at low levels

Yup, Lethality is an excellent tree, especially for leveling. Sharp Bomb and Wounding Shots do great damage.
don't go lethality until you've got enough points to get Cull, though, because it's REALLY REALLY bad until then
Blegh I don't get how to gear
Blegh I don't get how to gear
Depends on Class, Advance Class and Role you prefer. it can also change if you're a PVP or PVE player.
Your class codex pages should say what gear stats you should focus on.
I can't play without Quinn. He does healing so well.
Seriously I don't think I'll ever use Jaesa.
I usually juggle between Quinn and HK-51 depending on what I'm doing.

You might look on Noxxic for stat priority but never fully rely on that.
EDIT: After consideration I've made a Lethality Operative - it's going nice so far, was doing quite well on Huttball considering I'm always unlucky with it.

If you pick an asymmetrical chest you're a bad person.
What's wrong with asymmetry?
Though I do wish it didn't have that pointless heart-tube on it. Unless it powers my jetpack [sp]with LOVE![/sp]
My Jugg now feels extremely light, no pun intended.

Never, EVER rely on Noxxic. Don't even go there for the specs. Noxxic is the laughing stock of the community for how wrong their information is. For instance, on their stat priority for nearly every class they say to get Crit to 25%. This is wrong for pretty much every class. Crit rating has the worst diminishing returns in the game, and is effectively a broken stat. On top of that they say to stack Power before getting Crit to 25%. This is stupid because Power and Crit share the same slot on gear, you have to take one or the other. For the majority of DPS classes it has been proven that anything above 0 crit rating is typically an overall loss of DPS. There are only a select few classes who can use a little bit of Crit, but in most instances its nothing above 125 Crit rating, and even in those instances a 0 Crit rating build will produce higher and more consistent results.
On top of their stat priorities being wrong, their skill trees have misallocated points and their rotations are even worse. On the Annihilation Marauder for example, they have Berserk and Vicious Throw above Rupture on the Priority list. Neither of those abilities take priority over Rupture. The majority of the Annihilation spec's damage comes from Rupture and it's bleed. Berserk is only high on the list if you have all of your bleeds on the target, at full duration. This means you should never hit Berserk unless you have 3 full Deadly Saber stacks on the target, as well as a fresh Rupture. If you activate Berserk without these abilities active it is a DPS loss, and a huge one. They also have Vicious Throw high on the Priority list. Even though Vicious Throw is your execute ability, it is still only considered a filler in Annihilation. Your Bleeds and Annihilate still do more damage below 30% than Vicious Throw does. You are only going to use Vicious Throw when your other abilities are on Cooldown, and you have enough rage left over after the Vicious Throw to perform another Annihilate or Bleed attack.
If you need reliable information, check out the class guides on Dulfy: http://dulfy.net/category/swtor/class-guides/. They cover everything you need, and in tremendous detail, such as gearing, talent points, rotation, damage breakdown, etc. They also happen to be written by some of the best players in the game, and ones that hold top spots on the DPS leaderboards.
Stats aren't a problem for me, it's actually getting the gear that I have trouble with.

After how I every time used Noxxic for leveling up, I feel like an idiot right now.
Oh well, it was a good reason for me to start up PT tank and level up properly this time. I've never even seen BH story at all, it's the only one I left unnoticed for some reason.
Noxxic is fine for a REALLY REALLY loose overview of the class and if you're leveling it's not a big issue, but endgame it's just laughable.
Just spent $20 on Cartel Packs.
I'm not sure if i should sell them on GTN or not.
Started playing this game yesterday and i'm loving it. why did it get such bad ratings?

Rough launch. It had shit endgame (or no endgame, really). But that's all fixed, for the most part it has a real strong endgame component right now.
And then there were all the butthurt KOTOR fans and anti-EA fanatics spewing out the "Tortanic" garbage and blowing the crap out of proportion effectively trashing the game's reputation.

I think I'm gonna reinstall SWTOR
I installed it went it first went F2P but I had to take a trip to Virginia the next day and when I got back my PC amazingly died.
I reinstalled it once I got my PC up and running again but got distracted with SC2 and played the shit out of that, uninstalled SWTOR.
Now I think I'm going to reinstall SWTOR again for once and actually sit down and play it all.
I'll probably will ask my friends at school if they wanna install it as well and we can form a party or something like that.
I've heard that playing SWTOR f2p is best experienced with a group of friends.
What's tomorrow's pack gonna be? Have they said yet?
