Yep none of this happened because the Republic only has existed for a 1000 years. There is still the possibility Disney says anything made by EA is canon since they have exclusive rights to make any Star Wars games for the consoles thanks to Disney. (Get ready for Battlefront 5: Coruscant Police edition)

he was a genocidal mad man since the beginning of swtor though so nothing new other than the fact that they removed his real death animation in the beta for this very moment. Also his cult (now:army) was established in the lore on dromund kaas since the beginning as well.

"Cult", it still seems unlikely for him to pull out a force to that forces the Republic and Empire to team up. Then again all these story expansions are repeating the same thing, a new bad out comes out of nowhere and both sides must team up to beat him. They are entirely are limited on what to do with the story since they can't expand on more pathways forcing everything to be linear after finishing your class storyline.
Disney should shut up. The EU has been around for a long time, you can't just throw down money and say NOPE. NO MORE. These thousands of years of history are no longer canon, the universe a lot of you grew up with is not what you thought it was because... well because we can!

Well considering the 3 flashpoint story arc that preceeded this expansion's official announcement it was pretty clear he had a larger following than what both sides realized. I really urge anyone who wants to comment on this to play/watch the story arc they added to the game over the course of this year.

Played it, watched it, a cult isn't believable enough that it can gain enough followers to challenge two galactic scale powers. Even more unbelievable is the fact Revan is challenging the Republic who rescued him which spells out the fact he just turned evil so both sides would have common enemy and there wouldn't be a need for a separate storyline. Bioware couldn't write a separate story that involved allegiances, so they just chose to make Revan the flavor of the month bad guy like they did with the Hutt Consortium. Two planets, and Revan will finally die, then its the time for the Return of Malgus/Vitate who turn out to be against both the Empire and Republic in their own separate faction.

reeeeeal early in the beta builds they changed Revan's animation to have him "explode" instead of fall over. So it would be ambiguous whether he was actually dead or not.

In all fairness, the fact the Sith emperor will be nothing short of the final boss of the entire videogame is kind of obvious, considering what we currently know about his past and long-term plans (if the Sith warrior's and Jedi knight's stories are anything to go by)
I'll agree with you about the ... lazyness the writers must have caught up in making Revan an antagonist once again
(Personally, I don't have anything against Revan, even if many people, more or less rightfully, consider him a damn Marty Stu. What really bugs me is that in The Old Republic Revan has jumped the slope between heroism and blind villany far too many times to even be slightly beliveable)
Oh, and I can understand the decreased budget that doesn't allow to develop further class-related stories. But if they start to cut down even the faction-related story content, I could as well show myself out

IIRC it has one class mission, the rest are shared.

They're removing Skill Training costs.
