Ended up buying Forza 7 because I knew I would eventually and there's no point in delaying the inevitable.
I'm enjoying it mostly. I don't mind the homologation stuff as I always raced lightly modded cars, saving sillybuilds for hot laps
I've only done one championship/series so far so I've got a lot to see. Stuff I like: the ability to change campaign race lengths (long!), the new cockpit/dash camera, the Clio shows the real time and the odo functions (this is a very specific praise), wet weather doesnt seem as hilariously slippery as last time (it seemed to slippy to me)
I don't really understand the crate stuff (if there's two things that made me feel old looking at younger generations it's loot crates and youtubers, I never understood the appeal of either).
I brought a lootcrate and thought I won a car, but it turns I just won the opportunity to buy a car which is frankly bullshit. I hadn't followed the controversy so didn't realise it was this bad.
So if want something like the 787B (something I normally use as a goal), I can't work up to it, I've got to buy loot crates until the Rng spits it out and pay several million to buy it?
I don't really know if there's a good strategy for them but I'm guessing to begin with it's only worth buying mod card loot packs to increase race payouts.

That's not how it works - you might be getting mixed up between level ups and crates. Level ups, if you choose the car, give you a discount on a car up to a max of 400,000cr, so anything over that will have to be paid from your money. Crates always give you the car, and you have the option to sell back a car if you receive a dupe.
Actually playing it I really enjoy it. I greatly appreciate the longer race lengths, let's me take my time rsther than going on some mad dash to pass the entire field in only 5 laps

Ah right, I must've been getting confused by what cars I'd received. I got one in a 150k loot crate but couldn't find it in my cars. I'll take another look tomorrow when I've had some sleep and haven't got meat sweats :v:
Hopefully drag the wheel out as well
The 787B is not crate specific, every car in a tier you haven't unlocked yet is just shown as locked. For the record, the 787B is 1 million credits, and the most expensive cars I've seen were 1.5 million.
Also, I'm not sure what you're talking about with getting a car in a crate and not having access to it, maybe its just part of a tier you haven't unlocked yet?
Even if the car is in a tier higher than you you can still access it if it's from a crate.
ayy been playing through NFSU2 lately. I always come back to it. Still the best

I just re-played through it this spring, the best cop-free NFS. (Most Wanted best NFS) There's a solid graphics mod out there that makes it look way better on PC.
I'm so un-hyped for GT Sport
Gran Turismo's one big thing that made it outweigh the cons for me personally was the huge carlist. The shit sound, bad AI, boring physics, they were all outweighed by the huge varied carlist and the fun car-owning aspect. And they threw both of those out the window for GTS.

It's like if they made Team Fortress 3 but replaced the characters with generic soldiers and removed the drop system

Oh god yes.
Still don't know where that Snoop Dogg remix of Riders On The Storm came from, can't find anywhere where it was officially released
It never was released it was made specifically for that game so you can only get it from being ripped from the disk. Lean back was the best song for me.

No, they reversed everything you said. Sure, the size of the car list leaves much to be desired. But the variety of cars isn't that bad really, eg there's no longer forty different variants of Skylines. All of the cars are PS4 quality, as opposed to only a fraction of the cars in GT5 and GT6 being PS3 quality. I'd dare say that aside from perhaps the RaceRoom, it it up there with the largest variety of actual GT3 cars. And that's not including the fictional cars. Also, when you go to the showrooms in the game, it actually feels like you're going to a showroom, and each car has a four paragraph description. So a lot of effort has gone into each car.
Sounds have improved greatly, eg I haven't come across a vacuum cleaner yet. The whining of the straight-cuts gears has been well done. Can't really comment on the AI as I've only done the driving school stuff in the demo so far, but it's been built for multiplayer anyways, and racing etiquette will play a huge part in online racing. The physics are up there too; turning off all of the assists and using motion sensor steering is very challenging, but rather rewarding. The game simulates wheel spin, wheel lock-up, body roll, oversteer and understeer reasonably well.
I too am disappointed that it isn't Gran Turismo 7; the idea of a GT7 (or the hope of GT6 being ported to PS4) was why I got a PS4 in the first place. But for what it does, it does it quite well. It's a well polished game.
Yeah variety of GT3 cars and stuff but I meant full variety. Where's stuff like the Dome Zero concept, the Hommell, the Clix concept, all the regular-ass city cars.
My main point was that it felt like an interactive encyclopedia. Loads of varied cars, stuff you've never heard about, and you can just take them for a spin.
Give me an obscure 90's Japanese sportscar over some fictional GT3 version of an Alfa 4C any day.
Not to mention the whole car collection aspect

As I said, I'm not going to defend the direction that Gran Turismo has gone with GTS. I would have greatly preferred if they did a GT7 instead.
Adding those cars to GT Sport would make zero sense; it's a game about contemporary motorsports with some series production and concept racing on the side. I would prefer that they add in DTM, Super GT and V8 Supercars, rather than a whole heap of obscure cars or old concept cars that in previous GT games you'd probably only race one and never race in it again.
And just for the record, I love the Alfa 4C, and I love that Polyphony homologated it for GT3 racing. It looks absolutely mean. I think another one of my favourites will be the VW Beetle GT3, which sounds insane.
[editline]9th October 2017[/editline]
One thing I like about the game is that you can change a lot of car settings in real time. Eg in the demo you can take a 911 GT3 out for a 30 lap endurance race. While racing, you can adjust things like brake balance, traction control and fuel mapping (either more power or less consumption, in seven increments) on the fly using the d-pad. So as your tyres wear out, you might want to increase the traction control. Or if you are on your final stint, you might want to set the fuel mapping for maximum power.
I do agree that it makes more sense in this motorsports game but I agree with you, I'd rather have a GT7 because this GTS doesn't have any of the things that make GT interesting for me.
And yes it looks nice, but i'm a purist in that sense like TheAdmiester in that I prefer authentic, real-world cars over fictious cars.
Speaking of which, I haven't been following GTS that much, but doesn't it have a livery editor? I would've preferred if people could 'make' their own GT3 cars etc

It does have a livery editor, yeah.
I know what you mean about tuning up your own cars, but at least a benefit of Polyphony tuning the cars themselves is that they can do a better job at making sure the cars are balanced. A problem in Forza 6 was you absolutely had to have the best car with the best tune if you wanted to be competitive online.
One of the biggest problems in Forza 6 was the stupid PI limit for the GT endurance category. Only like 2 of the game's GT cars could be tuned to reach the PI limit of 900. So that meant if you wanted to race online, then forget about driving an R8 LMS Ultra, a Corvette, a Viper or anything else; if you wanted to be competitive, you'd have to race only that GT1 Aston. At least in GT Sport, you have a decent chance of winning in any of the game's dozens of Gr. 3 cars.

Yeah, you've summed up my biggest gripe. If you're going to throw your massive catalogue of cars out of the window, then do it for a good reason like vastly improved sounds or better physics. They've reduced the car count massively, had 4 years of dev time, and constantly sing praises about the x86 PS4 being easier to dev for, but there hasn't been a lot to show for it besides pretty graphics.
The sounds are still the worst in the industry and the physics just feel so dull. It really makes me wonder why GT games take so long to come out, is Kaz just constantly busy fucking about on the Nurburgring IRL?
EDIT: I might as well shill Forza a bit since I forgot I haven't posted this video yet. Just listen to this shit.

This game has 700+ cars. There are about 10-20 duds with shit sounds, the rest are just as good as that Audi video (especially anything with a race transmission and/or uninsulated cockpit). If they can deliver quality AND quantity with the shortest dev cycle, then what's going on at PD?
we should talk about battle gear series, pretty cool game

last entry was battle gear 4 and they actually made a simulator cabinet

Its a good sound, except that's not at all what its supposed to sound like. The 80's Audi turbo cars (including the 90) have this remarkable chirping sound that isn't in the game at all and it's driving me nuts:

Honestly, the realization that FM7 re-uses the same 10 or so engine sounds across all of its cars was extremely dissapointing. The GT-R had its real sound in horizon 3, why the fuck does it only have a generic sound in FM7?
It sounds good, but it gets so boring after a while.

Really frustrated me that FM6 did such a shit job on the V8 engine sounds. Eg none of the V8 Supercars sound anything close to what they are like in real life. And cars like the XY GTHO sound pathetic in the game, when they are beastly irl.
I got on Forza today. I went straight to my cars and my crate cars were there. I swear only the Clio I got for the first cup was showing last night.
Have you played the demo for GTS?
Looking at the bit you bolded I should clarify a mistake, I lumped together a criticism for GT6 and GTS. Physics are something I hated from GT6, which is the last that I played. I can't comment on GTS' physics, but my point about the sound still stands because sound comes across fine in videos.

Yeah the sounds aren't as good as eg the RaceRoom, but they are far from the vacuum cleaners of previous games. The sounds in the cockpit are decent; in the racing cars, the gearbox whine is well done, and you can hear the crashing on the upshifts and downshifts, as well as the exhaust cackling on lift-off.
Try the demo. Yeah it's 45gb, but you get to do around 30 singleplayer events in each of the car categories, including a 30 lap endurance and three rally car events. There's online too, where you get to do an MX-5 cup, an event for N300 cars (about eight production cars including a Civic Type R, WRX, Evo, TTS and others) and a Gr. 4 event where you can drive any one of the game's Gr. 4 cars. I've never played a demo before that had so much content.
[editline]10th October 2017[/editline]
Biggest problem with the racing in GT Sport is there's not enough vibration feedback; it is hard to drive on the limit of grip, because you don't feel the wheel spin, you don't feel the wheels locking under braking, and you don't feel the car sliding into over or understeer until it's too late
Its a good sound, except that's not at all what its supposed to sound like. The 80's Audi turbo cars (including the 90) have this remarkable chirping sound that isn't in the game at all and it's driving me nuts:

Don't mind me just posting another RaceRoom sound because their sound is always amazing. I've always thought the game was an underrated gem, so I like to talk about it when I can.

Honestly I haven't touched RaceRoom since Project CARS 2 came out, but I can never have enough of R3E's sounds.
Still patiently waiting on the FM7 VIP change patch
As for other criticisms I have of GTS, I really don't understand what is the point of the 'Scapes' feature. Sure, some of the pictures taken with it look alright, but it just seems so out of place in a game focused on motorsports. And it just seems so cheap too (essentially inserting a car into a 2D picture), especially compared to FH3's photo potential.
Another dumb thing is the little bits of facts that pop up in the home screen every now and then. Okay, so General Eisenhower bought his first TAG Heuer watch in 1945. I really don't give a shit. And I don't care that 2006 was 250 years after Mozart was born.
[editline]10th October 2017[/editline]
But another plus I did find for the game was that there's actually a pit crew, and you get to watch them change your car's wheels and refuel your car as well.

The stuff about scapes I agree with. It does look great, but I can't help but feel that the sheer volume of scapes they have means that time was stolen from more important stuff.
As for the bit I quoted, is it just me or is menu music a huge part of the character of a racing game? I mean, booting up GT4 and hearing this back in 2005:

Was amazing. I don't even like that kind of music but now it just feels so "special". I feel like Forza dropped off massively with its soundtrack after FM4, I wasn't really a fan of FM5 and FM6's light electronic orchestra stuff, but then FM7's gritty garage rock perfectly aligns with both FM1 and my personal tastes.
This is a one called "Snaps" that I ripped from the soundtrack, I love this kinda stuff, it reminds me of the Junkie XL stuff from the first game. The bit at 0:25 that repeats throughout the song is amazing.

if you go back to FM6, the 90 sound is not butchered. However Turn10 pulled a big switcharoo with audi cars in FM7: S1 and 90 sound worse, while Sport Quattro, RS2 finally have normal sounds

I think the menu kind of makes up half of the soul of a racing game, and the music plays a big part of that. FM4 is one of my favourite games for that reason, and I still feel really nostalgic over it. Didn't play FM5, but I can't say that FM6's menu music was memorable. I'm really not a fan of FM7's menu music (at least in the demo) because it sounds like an incredibly generic rock track.
Sorry for shilling GT Sport yet again, but the music that plays at the end of driving tests, depending on your result, is a remaster of the same music from the licence tests in GT4 I believe (not sure if they had the same music for GT5 or 6 as I never played those). It's very satisfying. Not a fan of the in-race music, so I have it turned down to only 50%.
[editline]11th October 2017[/editline]
I listened to that Snaps thing, and while it's not bad, I don't reckon it suits being menu music? It feels too fast paced and adrenaline-inducing to be the music that plays in the background while you're looking for events, modding cars etc. it might work better as the loading music when you select an event and it starts loading a map.
