I listened to that Snaps thing, and while it's not bad, I don't reckon it suits being menu music? It feels too fast paced and adrenaline-inducing to be the music that plays in the background while you're looking for events, modding cars etc. it might work better as the loading music when you select an event and it starts loading a map.
Actually, I forgot one of the things about Forza 7's music. It's all dynamic, so it'll "follow" you into races, so for example if there's a song playing on the loading screen, it'll suddenly shift to being played from speakers in the pits with reverb and everything applied. It's a really cool effect IMO, and because of that it technically is race music too.
Also, do you have a link to any of GTS' licence songs? I remember liking GT4's licence test music, and it's funny because a lot of GT4's songs (not the licences though) were just remastered GT2 tracks.
As for the bit I quoted, is it just me or is menu music a huge part of the character of a racing game? I mean, booting up GT4 and hearing this back in 2005:
:snip:
Was amazing. I don't even like that kind of music but now it just feels so "special". I feel like Forza dropped off massively with its soundtrack after FM4, I wasn't really a fan of FM5 and FM6's light electronic orchestra stuff, but then FM7's gritty garage rock perfectly aligns with both FM1 and my personal tastes.
No I think you're totally right on that. Music in general I feel is one of those soft things that can turn good game into a great one. When it comes to racing games especially, it's hard to really make those games have "character" so a lot of it has to come from the music and UI design.
This is one of the things that I think Shift 2 Unleashed did really well. It's the most lasting impression I have of the game. It had really great music and the main menu was awesome to look at. I want to just post the menu music (which is great) but it doesn't include the ambient racing and chatter sounds that you get in the background of the menu. You need the see/hear whole package. It really sold the whole super dangerous racing hardcore unleashed theme that it had going on.
The little mini-intro the game has for its menu, combined with the presentation of it and the music got you so pumped for everything to come after it. It was serious business.

And here's one of the menu songs standalone for reference. I actually have this whole soundtrack saved. It's still one of my favorite racing game soundtracks of all time.

You know, I had totally forgotten about Slightly Mad's menu stuff. I have a favourite from Shift 2 (they're called Gladiator mixes aren't they?), not too keen on the vocals of the original song but the orchestra in this one is amazing:

And in pCARS in particular, I love that one of their staple songs is a remix of Spa 24 Hours from GTR2. The best version was from pCARS 1's early access before they toned down the drums, this version:

1:04 onwards (the main Spa 24 bit) is badass.
Ha, I loved Shift 2 (I'll go on about it any opportunity) but I always thought the menu music was a bit lame. Slightly over the top "epic".
I otherwise really enjoyed the sound design, racing felt intense, you could hear dirt and marbles clattering around underneath.
Shift 2 is a brilliant game, but had that weird sensation when driven that I think carried over to pCars where the car felt like it skipped over the road rather than rolled. Fan patches have fixed it though, so if you can get a copy it's definitely worth a punt, I think more racing game devs should look at it

The mod scene for Shift 2 is still *kinda* alive, too. I remember going back to it after the first pCARS came out and there were like 5 car mods uploaded in that past week. People are still pretty passionate about it it seems. I might have to re-replay it.
Can someone else please sympathize with me - that it is ridiculous that my Logitech Driving Force GT (a wheel literally made to play Gran Turismo), does not work for GT Sport?

I'm in the same boat, but there are devices that make it compatible with PS4, no idea how legit they are though.

I had a quick search of YouTube, but couldn't find an upload. If you download GT Sport you'll be able to hear them.
I finally had a go at that 30 lap GT3 endurance race in the GT Sport demo. Whereas most of the field were doing a three stop strategy, I opted to stretch out the Porsche 911 for a two stop strategy (10 laps per stint). Started on hards, which lasted me for two stints, until I went to softs for the last stint. Had the adjustable fuel mapping set for just 3 out of 7, where 1 is power, and 7 is lean. If I had enough leftover fuel at the end of a stint, I'd set it to 1 or 2 out of 7.
Started in 20th out of 30 (the last ten cars were GT4 cars), slowly made progress up the field. It was clear that some cars were more-competitive than others; an M6 GT3, a Huracan GT3 and a Viper GT3 were flogging me on the straights. Instead of battling with them, I was relying on them being slowed down by a third pit stop.
Some mistakes were occasionally made, eg over-correcting on some corners and going off-track, but for the most part I was racing rather clean (was using the motion sensor steering and cockpit cam which felt very satisfying). Fast forward to the last few laps, and unfortunately my strategy didn't work; the M6 overtook me once again. On the last lap I gave it all I had, but couldn't quite catch up to it. Then I realised that I was burning way too much fuel, so I was forced to let off.
The M6 won, while two seconds later I crossed the line literally less than a second after my fuel gauge said I had 0% fuel left. The Huracan crossed the line a split second after I did, and if it weren't for a GT4 car slowing it down, they would have beat me to second. Although I didn't win, it was a splendid race indeed.

I still cannot emphasise how cool it is that there's a pit crew now and you get to watch them change your tyres and dump fuel into your car. Also I'm not going back to thumbstick steering, because of how excellent motion sensor steering on the DS4 is (very precise and it does punish you if you don't know proper technique eg over-correcting).
BeamNG Drive is so satisfying to play with T300RS Alcantara edition and TH8A gear shifter on WheelStandPro. Now just gotta wait 5 years before they manage to get multiplayer and traffic into the game
Racing sims are the one genre of games where I feel like no matter how much I've played or will play, I never actually get any better. There's a bunch of stuff I've read and watched but I've never felt like I've gotten any more competitive. I am always a mediocre middle of the pack driver, if that, in every single racing sim I've played online.
It's kinda disheartening.

Just keep on practicing. And don't feel disheartened if you don't win online races; there can only ever be one winner each time, and there are many people who spend almost all of their spare time on racing games, and who have things like steering wheels to play with.
I think a big problem with racing games is that they force you to finish first in every singleplayer race to progress through the game, and if you don't finish first, you're considered a loser. Then that attitude is translated into online play. Just understand that you can't win every race. I don't even race online to win; I'm happy to finish towards last, as long as everyone else races respectfully.
if gran turismo's menus and car collection mixed with forza's physics and sound design and everything else i would be a very happy man
New FM7 patch
October 10, 2017
Today we released the most recent update for Forza Motorsport 7. This update addresses numerous issues on both the Xbox One and PC versions of the game, including:
• Fixed an issue where tracks would disappear after a player uses repeated rewinds in a race.
• Fixed an issue where some players’ Forza Rewards gifts were not saving properly after they were initially revealed in game.
• We’ve addressed a game exploit whereby players could use Forza Edition cars to gain unrealistic leveling and rewards. In the interest of maintaining game balance, we have instituted rewards changes for all Forza Edition cars, replacing flat XP secondary rewards with a percentage-based credit (CR) reward. With this update, all Forza Edition cars will offer a primary percentage CR reward and a secondary conditional percentage CR reward. All VIP Forza Edition cars will now offer a primary +50% CR reward and a secondary conditional +50% CR reward. For example, the 2000 Nissan Silvia Spec-R Forza Edition previously offered a primary CR reward of +25% and a secondary flat +5,000 XP award after 3 good drifts in a race. With this update, the Silvia now offers a primary reward of +25% CR and a secondary reward of +25% CR after 3 good drifts in a race. As a further example, the 2014 BMW M4 Coupe Forza Edition (a VIP FE car) previously offered a primary +40% CR reward and a secondary flat +10,000 XP reward at the Nürburgring. With the update, the BMW now offers a primary +50% CR reward and a secondary +50% CR reward at the Nürburgring.
• Addressed an issue where the game would crash during Driver Level Rewards screen, causing extra level-up rewards to be available.
• PC and Multiplayer stability fixes.
No VIP 2x credit change yet, but they did 'fix' the FE car farm thing.
Haven't been able to check if they added the new hoppers and rivals that would come this week or that you retroactively get the Forza Faithful rewards

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who is willing to risk a ruined race in order to spite a particularly annoying AI.
Speaking of ruined races, the Ultima 1020 series in FM7 is literally designed to give you as many as possible. Being a single make series means that you have to take as many risks as possible to defeat Forza's strategy of starting you in 12th place all the time, and this becomes a nightmare when you're driving a car that weighs just over a ton, but has over a thousand horsepower and no downforce whatsoever.
Then the sadistic fucks in charge put you on Long Beach, where the homicidal AI are free to ram you into the concrete walls and tire barriers on every turn where you haven't already done so yourself.
It really bugs me that all the AI cars in forza 7 only use the default paint job. I have yet to see one using a user-created paint, or even just one of the other manufacturer paints.
Like I was in the "rebirth of muscle" championship and every single camaro Z28 was yellow. And there were like 5 of them.
[editline]11th October 2017[/editline]
The damage model in Forza 7 blows. You can crash into everything and your car will look totally fucked, yet you'll take 0 damage. I don't understand it.
I knocked the rear wing off a GT car once and there was no aero damage at all. You only get damage if you drive straight into a wall at 150mph, and then you get 100% damage with no in-between.

Is show drivatar liveries off in drivatar difficulty? Might also be the fact that the game is pretty new and people won't have too many cars/designs yet for their drivatars to use.

This is the reason I stick to either practice sessions or look for relaxed driving games. I don't want to show that I'm a faster or better driver, I just like driving and seeing what my machine could do.

No, it's turned on. And like I said, the AI won't even use the alternate default manufacturer paints.
Anyone here ever played Baja: Edge of Control? Got it earlier on the cheap and wondering if it was any good.

It's pretty good from what I remember, but the races tended to be a slog and IIRC there were no adjustable race lengths. It came out on PC recently with some slight touch ups, I should probably play it again.
Is there a way in Forza 7 to track down the pit crew member who keeps replacing my tires with greased up cheese wheels? Thanks in advance.

Hot Pursuit 2010 is the last truly good Need for Speed game. You don't even have to make excuses for it. It's just really solid and super fun game. It's a shame multiplayer is long dead, because it had really fun MP too.

Not my photo; someone else shared it at https://www.reddit.com/r/granturismo/comments/75w7g6/damn/ but at least GT Sport will have photo potential with the actual races and not just the scapes thing
I tried using photo mode, but I'm still used to FH3's photo mode, so I'm not quite good at it yet

I finally finished first in this race. I changed my strategy to a three-stop, with three 8 lap stints to start with, and a final 6 lap stint. Started on soft tyres for the first stint, so I could gain track position (from 20th) as soon as possible.
For the second and third stints I sought to defend track position and not push too hard, so I went on mediums and ran with a leaner fuel map. For the first four laps of each stint I'd run at 4 out of 6 mapping (where 1 is max power and 6 is max economy), so that I wouldn't be pushing the tyres too hard too early, then I'd run at 3 out of 6 for the last four laps, but also switch to 1 or 2 out of 6 on the last lap of each stint if I had enough fuel left (I often pitted at 1% fuel remaining).
For the final stint, I went back on softs and had fuel mapping set to max power, and pushed aggressively to put as much distance between myself in the 911 and that dreaded M6 (I'm faster through the corners, but it flogs me on the straights). Passed the line in first, with barely enough fuel, and that M6 only 1 second behind me. Close race, but that made the victory even sweeter.
Man, Forza Horizon 3 still doesn't run properly on my PC. It used to startup fine but now the game is stuck on the loading screen, one year after release.

Reading shit like sounds absolutely awesome and I have to say it's amazing how far games have come.
Can't say I'm into circuit racing enough to want to get into that detail myself though. Rally is my love, hill climb and point to point is cool too. Basically any racing that is not on a proper track, just public roads or something.

Dirt Rally is one of my favourite games for that reason. It's relatively easy to perfect a motor racing circuit, but almost impossible for even a professional driver to perfect a rally stage.
But yeah endurance races like that are wonderful fun. However, what I didn't mention was how I had to do a perfect lap every single lap to even have a chance at finishing first; any slight mistake and that M6 would have had me. I almost spun out several times, eg by going onto the rumble strip on a corner exit and modulating the throttle whilst on it, suddenly changing the available grip and sending the car into oversteer. Also if I didn't have the right tyre and fuel strategy, I never would have had a chance anyways.
The Forza AI does my head in sometimes. I don't mind the occasional love taps, the first turn nonsense or even the occasional straight line PIT maneuver. What really does my head in is the way they mash the brake in the middle of every corner. Nothing more aggravating than spending 15 minutes carefully moving up through the pack only to be wiped out when the lead car decides to make sure his brakes work on a barely perceptible kink. It's happened a few times now.
