The Forza AI does my head in sometimes. I don't mind the occasional love taps, the first turn nonsense or even the occasional straight line PIT maneuver. What really does my head in is the way they mash the brake in the middle of every corner. Nothing more aggravating than spending 15 minutes carefully moving up through the pack only to be wiped out when the lead car decides to make sure his brakes work on a barely perceptible kink. It's happened a few times now.
Racing against more-difficult AI usually, somewhat, resolves that problem
And I don't mind the mod card things but I really wish they would let you go beyond the challenge. I'm playing with all assists off, sim steering and all my mod cards are for normal steering or abs on.
I'm really struggling with the perfect pass ones too

I'm playing on pro at the moment, I might try giving unbeatable a go. I find pro ideal for me as it gives us a challenge while giving me a bit of room for error.
I'm being over the top about the mid turn braking, but there's definitely a few bits on a few tracks where they slow down too much
[editline]15th October 2017[/editline]
And j don't know if it's just me but the AI seems extra quick at Sebring, not in the corners but they just seem to pull away on the straights
[editline]15th October 2017[/editline]
Oh and the game is still kind of funny on rolling starts when using clutch and H shifter. It doesn't tell you what gear the car is in before the timer and even if you pick the right gear it acts like you forced it into gear. Starting with clutch in sort of resolves it but it's not really right. It was exactly the same in Forza 6, if you've got damage on 90% you'll incur clutch damage

You're not being over the top; AI in most games are horrendous when it comes to mid-corner braking. It's often how difficulty sliders work for racing games: AI will always go the exact same speed on the straights regardless of difficulty, but the lower the difficulty slider is set, the slower their average speed around corners. Which may necessitate mid-corner breaking.
But yeah Forza 6 was shocking in that regard. They were shit for other reasons too, eg I remember doing the Indy car endurance and a car literally brake tested me for no reason on a straight. Got significant damage and had to restart the race. The AI also has a habit of driving off track, and when they rejoin the track, they tend to cross the entire road and not give a shit about whoever was on the road.

GT Sport has been released of course. Here's a dumb video of me doing a time attack at the Nurburgring in the M6 GT3, plus a replay of it (do note PS4 compression of recordings):

Coincidentally I also upgraded to a PS4 Pro today, and the game really does look stunning in 4K+HDR. While the graphics understandably still don't compare to the real world, there are definitely moments where you could be tricked. Especially in the replays.
Unfortunately, a lot of people online must have skipped the whole 'race etiquette' thing of GT Sport, because the online community is just as toxic as most other racing games. Oh and no one has any originality either; in N300 class, at least half of the lobby will drive a fucking BMW M4 lmao.
hard to have much originality when there's barely over 100 cars.
also the m4 is a cool car so, dafuq

There's like 8 cars in N300 class, and some N200 and N400 cars can be upgraded/downgraded to N300.
Barely over 100 is being misrepresentative; there's something like 170? Sure it's not as many cars as GT6, but there's no longer like 40 different Skylines, and they are cars that are actually interesting, not like random obscure Kei cars from the 90's.
After spending a couple of hours on FM7 multiplayer the AI don't seem so bad.
And why is the beginner hopper in a fucking lambo, everyone else span out on the first corner

too bad it never made its way to consoles, let alone pc
or a remaster

I still don't get why you have to be "original" when playing online, if I like the M4, why not drive it?
also from what I saw on that car list there was very few interesting cars, only a couple BMWs I liked and a couple Evos

gt sport looks really nice, i havnt bought it yet because i dont have hdmi on my monitor and i need to play at my desk to use my wheel
i sort of see the complaints people have but if your playing for simulation style racing id rather have 90+ unique cars rather than 700 shit ones

you can get daytona on pc but iirc it was made with diamond edge cards in mind so its probably unplayable on a modern system

The M4 is like a boy's wet dream in European sports car form lmao. But it's so boring. Like literally its only two quirks are that it a) has inline 6, but also, b) that inline 6 sounds so boring that they have to pump fake engine sounds through the sound system into the cabin, to make it sound good.
Same kinda thing with the Nissan GT-R. And you see that in GT Sport too; in Gr. 3 lobbies, more than half of the lobby will drive a Nissan GT-R GT3 lol.

It's unfortunate that many people only look at the 0-60 times of cars and use just that to determine whether a car is good or not

He's close if you lump together trims/classes of the same car, most of the production models featured in GT:S have 2 to 5 variations counted separately. I've always thought it's a bit disingenuous to separate them. Gran Turismo 2 and 4 (550+ and 700+ cars advertised) have a lot of cars like this like the Skyline and its infinite trims, so the count really isn't that high, though they were still massive and unprecedented at the time.
is project cars as hard as they say it is
Well one thing is for sure, I've lost my stamina when it comes to endurance racing lmao. Trying this Forza 7 showcase where I do 46 laps. After 20 odd laps my hands already are cramping and I'm losing focus a lot. That and extremely worn tyres doesn't help. Unbeatable AI is piss easy sometimes though idk why.
I just suck at simracing. I prefer to coast down roads and obey traffic laws. Getting a license is expensive as fuuuuack here and City Car Driving isn't cutting it for me.
Anyone have suggestions where I can drive a regular road car with traffic?
I have a wheel w/ three pedals and a stickshift

Maybe you should just try making FFB lighter?

On PC, NFS 2015 and Forza Horizon 3 are all I can think of, there's traffic and signage and all that but they aren't simulators. FH3 is Win10-only.

its 10 years old by now, but test drive unlimited 1 is great for this.
there's also live for speed cruise servers, but theyre really just opened up racetracks with props put on to make it seem like street roads

Ohh yeah, TDU was the bomb back in the day.
I'll try to get into it but I have bad memories of the gameplay and rules
with TDU I tend to just cheat in a big amount of money and then just cruise around, fuck the racing.
it's the only game I've ever played with an open world though where I don't feel the need to be full throttle all the time, it's nice to just cruise along at 160-200km/h

It's pretty old (and still being developed) but Live for Speed's cruise servers are pretty fun. They're street layouts using the race tracks and surrounding complex and I think they've got traffic lights and stuff now.
The handling model is :okay:, the low speed physics feel superb which I think is why cruise servers are so popular.
There's a demo available at lfs.net, I think the Blackwood track in the demo has been updated recently to include roads around the track

Yeah, but that's not Daytona USA 2...
So I've dived into racing games for the first time, driving like a maniac in ambulances made me realise how fun driving can be
Playing Dirt Rally right now, which has been an amazing game so far. I have a question though, does playing with a gamepad ever get less awkward? I feel I can't be as precise with my turns as I would if I had a wheel, but I'm skeptical spending a few hundred just to get one. I'm hoping that a few days playing with the gamepad will help but I wanna know what you guys think
Last time I played old Colin McRae games with gamepad it was me twitching the stick like mad back-and-forth
It only becomes more awkward
I'd suggest Forza mostly if you're a pad player. It's what makes Forza. It's one of the easiest games for pads, pretty sure with that in mind anyway
Just out of interest, any wheels/pedals you guys swear by? Preferably a setup that won't move around when mounted

There's nothing special about my performance in this video; I started 20th and finished 19th (everyone in the top 20 qualified within 1.5 seconds of pole position). But what amazed me about this race, and many others I've had in GT Sport now that my sportsmanship rating is up there, is how clean the races are. This isn't some niche, hardcore motorsports game like RaceRoom or iRacing; this is a public match on a mainstream racing game on a console.
Generally in other games, people who start at last tend to drive very aggressively, because they don't have much to lose. But everyone was well behaved in this race, and many others. I suppose that the racing etiquette aspect of the game has actually worked out well.

Depending on your budget the G920 is solid, it's pretty cheap for the full setup and it's firm to the desk and floor so they rarely move.
