so since FM7 is expensive and supposedly shit, what are some other racing games on pc that allow for a mixture of different types of cars that aren't supercars in races that is actually populated? One of my favourite parts of Forza Horizon 3 is the mixed production car type races, having races with civics, skylines, BMWs, muscle cars, etc all in the same race is good fun bonus points if the game has some sort of system in place to punish rammers [editline]9th November 2017[/editline] bonus bonus points if it has livery customization

PCars 2 has *some* production cars, but they're mostly supercars with a few lower end ones in there.
I have a multiplayer racing itch, which game can is good for online racing?
Speaking of Payback; -trailer- Still waiting for a bit more info from people who have played it before I figure out if it's worth actually bothering or waiting until it's in a bargain bin, but hopefully it's the former.
It's actually a proper NFS game. Runs great on my low spec PC at low to medium settings. The later stages of vehicles start feeling authentic and fun to drive. There are "loot crates" yes, but they are earned through gameplay. Just remember that TAB is the pause button. I had to go through the intro with the game chopping like mad. Remember to also update your graphics driver. I have the Deluxe Edition and I preordered for €71.99
More info about payback. Some cars are unable to be upgraded past a car ranking of 300, and some cannot be upgraded to 399, which i assume is max, so their upgrade trees probably stop somewhere between 300 and 399. A few cars have big bugs when it comes to placing down stickers (see what certain cars have in forza games, where a sticker may not show properly on a specific portion of a car, or may show twice as well) The classic charger is a MASSIVE example of this and it is flat out impossible to place anything down on its sides.
on the upside payback isn't online only so you can simply just use cheatengine to get the tokens to roll for parts. even then though you still have to spend up to 10-20 mins rolling to get a car to top level

If it's not too invasive I'll probably deal with it anyway, especially if they have indeed fixed the core driving problems 2015 had. Also I'll be getting it on PS4 first, 'cos reasons.
These cars are a lot of fun. I've played about with my force feedback settings and tbh pCARS doesn't feel as bad as I thought. Why the devs thought putting dampers on all of the values by default is beyond me. There's a good thread here that explains things better than the cryptic descriptions in the options. It'll tide me over until pCARS2 drops in price.
Didn't know this thread even existed. I installed some older racing games (because it's all I can run on my PC) and have been meaning to talk about them for ages: First, I went through the Flatout series (only the ones developed by Bugbear). The first is kind of barebones by modern standards, and the focus on physics is gimmicky as hell, to the point where the crashing and the racing don't go together as well as they should in a game made specifically for those things. On the other hand, it's both refreshingly simple and challenging. Flatout 2 tightens up the physics to be less unforgiving, which does remove some of the challenge of the first game. I don't mind, though, because it offers a much more cohesive experience, with a shitton more content. Ultimate Carnage has even more arcade-y handling than 2, and ties up the series nicely with a decent visual overhaul, but has no new tracks or cars that I could spot. Overall, a great series with a nice range of gameplay styles to choose from (just stay away from 3 and 4). Shame to see all Bugbear is doing nowadays is apparently abandoning kickstarter projects? I moved on to some NFS titles, but there really isn't much to say, is there? NFSU2 was cool, but it's all downhill from there. MW outright removes the dyno/tuning options and fucks up the driving completely. For the sake of what, cringy early 2000s cutscenes? I used to think this and Carbon were the best NFS games as a kid (evidently, I had never played anything pre-Underground), but they're lame af. Carbon is basically understeer: the game. ProStreet salvages some of the racing gameplay but does nothing to ease on the cringe. I get it, the announcer fucking adores my character, can I shut him up and skip these cutscenes, please? Why do these racing events look like they're sponsored by Hot Topic? I think I tried one of the later ones, and I shut it down within a minute of playing. I can't run all of the new ones though, I imagine one of them HAS to be good, right?
just bought forza 7 feel like a stooge but fuckit, I really like horizon and I want to do track racing
I've been occasionally playing GT3 for the past several months. I'd say if you don't make car overpowered - the races can often be very challenging and definetely not boring you just made me remember some bullshit on why I enjoyed GT3
I always feel incredibly nostalgic for GT3. That was the racing game which I had the most-fond memories of as a kid (with the original Juiced and Sega GT 2002 in 2nd and 3rd place). Hell, I even bought a PS2 and GT3 again two years ago, just so I could play it once more. But when you compare it to games today, the racing itself is rather boring. There's no balance of performance stuff like what later games have, and the AI was dumb as dogshit. I still love the game though. I'm surprised at just how well the graphics have held up.

Even lacking creativity I still managed to make a quite adorable design for my drift class Corvette. I call it the "Social Butterfly" [vidme]0Aelu[/vidme]

The one real problem I've had with Payback so far is that the multiplayer matchmaking has no balancing at all. At the same time, though, it let me make this.
I love taking a 299 level car and smashing the shit out of people using 399's because they don't know what braking is. Also if you can get either of the skylines to 299, you can get them to the same top speed and close to the same accel rating as the 399 cars, its pretty silly.
The levelling definitely means a lot less once you punch some mods in but seeing people in the basically stock GNX and S2000 having to contend with 350+ 570S' (regardless of how absolutely terrible their drivers are) is something Ghost needs to fix. I'll probably hop my R32 up to 299 once I'm done with the Corvette Grand Sport, which I almost wasn't going to use until I noticed someone had made a Cross wrap for it literally hours before I bought it.

I don't know why games don't just have power-to-weight ratios for performance indicators, with tyre compound as a secondary indicator, as opposed to the dozens of proprietary and incredibly arbitrary systems that each developer uses. If I were ever in-charge of that kind of thing for a racing game featuring production cars, I would do that for the car classes. Eg, - 'R130' for cars with road tyres and a power-to-weight ratio no greater than 130kW/t, - 'S200' for cars with sport tyres and a power-to-weight ratio no greater than 200kW/t, and - 'T350' for cars with track tyres and a power-to-weight ratio no greater than 350kW/t [editline]12th November 2017[/editline]
Been playing since release and haven't seen one.
I haven't played it other than the demo, but I saw this thread on reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/forza/comments/7c7ai1/am_i_playing_a_fucking_mobile_game/ and some members mentioned it

This is the other problem I have with Payback. The world not loading in fully *during races*, meaning you slam into tunnels. Also, more terrible pubbie driving. And some terrible driving on my part, too.
