Game has a release date, 31st of october.
Played some spintires MP in preparation, it's a lot of fun how people split the roles. One guy unlocks the garages, another gets the logs, the other removes cloaking and the other idiot (me) loads too much fuel on his truck and gets stuck in a bog.

Well that was unexpected. That looks surprisingly good. How do you even control something like this? Both tilting and on screen controls both seem like they would be bad and not accurate enough for something like this.
I actually really liked GRID Autosport on PC.

Handling model wouldn't be the exact same as on PC or consoles. Even then, tilt to steer is surprisingly decent for many racing games (more-precise than playing with a gamepad), as long as they do not fully simulate things like body roll. Even then, it wasn't awfully bad to play Rush Rally 2 with tilt-to-steer.

I pre-ordered Gran Turismo Sport. Forza 7 can get fucked. I'm hoping that because a big part of GTS revolves around proper racing etiquette, and also considering that it will be released at a similar time to Forza 7 and PCars 2, that the GTS online community won't be as toxic as is the case in most racing games.

oh man
more shit for them but none for us
Two things, FM7 gameplay vids are out on the interwebz, and the demo is coming in ~4 hours
Man, Forza demo really showed me that I cannot drive with a gamepad anymore. It's been so long since I last played a Forza game.

Played a few hours of Project CARS 2 before going to sleep. So far it's exceeded pretty much every expectation I had of it. Unlike Project CARS 1, I haven't yet encountered any game breaking bugs, online actually works, and my wheel stays connected the entire session. The FFB, once I tuned it to my liking, is pretty solid. The physics are good enough to me, and the game's graphics are great and I'm really surprised by how well the game runs for how good it looks. (At least in the dry. I haven't done rain yet.)
I ran a bunch of laps on Watkins Glen to dial in my FFB settings, and then did an online race with LMP2 cars where nothing went wrong and I had fun.
Like the first game, there’s a very slick and cohesive presentation to the whole thing that makes it feel more like a real game made by a game company than any of the other racing sims out there. There’s so many little things the game does that make it feel so polished and intentionally designed.
I don't think I have any real complaints so far, which is kind of bothering me because Project CARS 1 was a tire fire and I gave that game so much (very much deserved) flak when it came out, and for long after release. PC1 was so incredibly frustrating because on the rare occasions that the game actually worked it was great fun. The problem was that that almost never happened for the majority of the game’s lifetime for me. There was always something breaking, always something that required me to quit and restart the game. At least so far, it's hard to believe this is made by the same devs.
I guess if I had to find something to complain about, the car sounds are very simplistic when you watch them in replays. It just sounds like a single sample that gets pitch shifted for a doppler effect. R3E is what I play the most and it's really spoiled me by how far ahead of the curve it is in sound design compared to every other racing sim out there. That being said, the interior sounds in PC2 are very solid.
Oh yeah, and you can now change options ingame. I shouldn’t have to point that out as a spectacular leap forwards for Project CARS, but it really is.
There will most certainly be problems I run into the more I play, but the game makes a hell of a first impression.
fm7 has full on microtransaction crates according to the game files. some are buyable with credits. some with tokens and some with both. there are 8 crates of different "rarities" and you can unlock Cars / drivergear / badges. items come in rarities of common / legendary / rare / super / uncommon.

I'm still not going to get Forza 7, but I tried the demo anyways. The changes to camera movement in all of the camera views is most certainly welcome. And I imagine that the new time of day and weather options will be refreshing.
But things I didn't like were that, for example, the game kind of lost its soul? I remember Forza 4 had a great menu soundtrack and a great menu in general, which was very nostalgic. But Forza 7's... has an incredibly generic rock soundtrack which sounds like a sample song you might find in Apple's GarageBand. And the focus on the Drivatars, for lack of a better term just makes the game look incredibly casual?
Was also disappointed with the Motul Autech GT-R race at Nurburgring. Not because the racing was bad, not because the weather was bad, but because the game is continuing that tradition since Forza 5 where they just chuck all different kinds of race cars into a single match; a GT1 Aston Martin, a GT500 GT-R, and an assortment of GT3 and GTE cars. It reminds me of the GT endurance hopper (single player and multiplayer) in Forza 6, where Aston Martins dominate every single race, because they are just better than everything else. I remember Forza 4 had separate classes for GT1/GTS, GT2, GT3 and Super GT.
The Project CARS I know is starting to rear its ugly head as I played more today. While most of them are pretty minor and just a nuisance, I ran into 2 game breaking bugs while playing online.
The first was that my HUD completely disappeared, which is technically still driveable, but my car also was in a very damaged state and no matter how many times I returned to the pits and reset it, it wouldn’t get fixed.
The second resulted in my wheel and pedal axes no longer responding for reasons I couldn’t understand after joining a server. This is classic Project CARS and one of the issues from the original game that infuriated me to no end. I quit the lobby and started a solo practice event to see if maybe there was something bugged about the server and it worked just fine there.
I was very disappointed, but not surprised in the slightest.

How is the online? Is it still pretty much just fucking GT3 cars at Monza on 90% of servers?

man if they're gonna go back to a rock soundtrack they should just get junkie xl back on board and follow the first game's example

Actually better than the Forza 7 music

Pretty wide variety at the moment. There's probably more GT3 servers than any other type, but they're not the majority at all. I haven't even done a GT3 race yet. The two races I've completed online so far have been LMP and Road Cars E, which was hilarious and a lot more fun than I thought it would be.
Here's the server list as of right now to give you an idea of the selection.

Forza 1 had a legit good soundtrack, especially in the menus.

Project CARS 2 pulled a Project CARS on me. This was an otherwise unremarkable, close, and clean race up until this point.

The game is still buggy, but the game breaking bugs are much fewer and far between than they used to be. There's a much lower, but definitely nonzero, chance of things going horribly wrong in PC2, which is a big improvement over the first.
Also unrelated, but I'm really surprised that when you take photos with the photo mode it doesn't supersample them. It makes the photos look kinda of nasty. Why don't they just save to a file either? It's such a hassle to have to take a photo and then take a photo with Steam to actually get one to save out.
Hmm, good thing I decided to wait. I'll probably wait for it to go on Christmas sale and hopefully by then it'll be patched a few times. From what I've been watching on YouTube the handling is a lot better, so that's an automatic upgrade over pCARS1.
I wonder if PC cars 2 is still impossible to play with a keyboard.
Also how is it that across all generes of gaming it seems like the more "realistic" a game is, the more janky it is?

Due to how niche they are, they lack the AAA funds and manpower to polish everything to a sheen. Most of them spend the majority of their time hashing out the physics because that's the single thing that a sim is expected to do right above all else, and it's why they're making the game to begin with.
Although, Project CARS is a bit weird in that it's practically a AAA game in terms of polish and presentation. They have a huge team for this kind of game and actual publisher backing by Bandai Namco.

Like the game is definitely way better than the first. Even physics aside, just the sheer volume of content is amazing, and they ironically do more race things than even Assetto Corsa with cool stuff like formation laps, pit stops, time of day, weather, and a dynamic track. When it works, it's fantastic. The game usually works too, which is another massive improvement from the first. But yeah, there's nothing to be lost in waiting for a few patch cycles and picking it up on the inevitable holiday sale.
The first was an infuriating mess because when it worked, it was amazing, and it worked just often enough that I kept trying to give it second chances only for the game to completely fall apart and force me to restart the game 2 out of 3 races because something stupid happened like my wheel just suddenly stopped working.
Oh yeah, and in PC2 you can now change your settings ingame, which is a godsend and massive improvement.

you can always import music to the game
Forza 1 had a legit good soundtrack, especially in the menus.
forza 1's garage/career ost is seriously among my favorite game soundtracks ever, certainly my favorite in the series (though fm3 comes close). the racing music honestly falls a bit flat imo, but the menus have a very tasteful mix of pretty melodies, meaty riffs, and a really tranquil, kinda floydian atmosphere in many sections (plus nostalgic value)
[editline]24th September 2017[/editline]
also after buying it on release, i've finally gotten around to properly playing and progressing through fh3 and god, the ai is so fucking broken. which is really a shame since it's a major blemish on an otherwise excellent game
So hey, does anyone know a XInput controller emulator that works with Forza 7?
XOutput seems to be broken on that game, so it's not really useful right now, does anyone know a alternative?
speaking of racing game music, some of forza 4's stuff will always stick out in my mind, such as this one:

That music, in the Top Gear studio menu environment. With the BMW M3 art car currently selected. Makes me want to boot up Forza 4 so badly right now.

What the fuck has happened to Forza? Forza 7 has none of the charm that 4 had.
So who knows how the hell Gr. 4 will work in Gran Turismo Sport? If you look at the car list, you'll see everything from an MX-5 Gr. 4, to an RC F Gr. 4, to even a Bugatti Veyron Gr. 4.
I believe it is a fair assumption to believe that the Gr. 4 cars are road cars with only basic modifications, such as rear wings and stickier tyres, like how GT4 cars are closer-to-original compared to GT3 cars. But that doesn't explain the huge gulf in performance of some Gr. 4 cars. It would be absurd to suggest that all of the Gr. 4 cars are modified to have a similar power/weight ratio, so I'm inclined to believe that Gr. 4 will be a multi-class category, perhaps?
