Stalkers ought to be fairly loyal to one another I think. There is obviously a deep seated idea of stalker culture and a certain code of ethics that they follow... stalkers who break that unwritten code like Magpie get tracked down and killed. I think stalkers who are squadded up have to trust each other immensely and that comes with a certain willingness to fight for each other, even if they only met that morning. I agree they should flee when they are clearly facing death but they should still be fairly brave. If you can split AI "braveness" up by rank, maybe make it so rookies scatter and run easily and the more experienced stalkers are harder to shake. One AI change I'd like to see is stalkers entering the injury state more often before expiring so their buds have a chance to save them.
There was a freeplay mod merge for SoC that added NPC panicking I played a year or two ago. It was pretty cool, I was hostile to some ecologists and when i killed 2 of the 3 the last one just sprinted away from me and hid in the lab building in dark valley, at which point he got shot by a bandit.
Yes, please Could be possible
It's annoying when enemies sprint away at the speed of light. For some reason the run animation alone makes my blood boil.
I mean, yeah, the naruto style third person run animation stands out as a truly awful animation among the many others in Stalker that are merely bad. Maybe NPCs could retreat under covering fire or something?
I disabled the default weapon sway awhile ago because it was constantly bugging out on me and I couldn't get it to look how I wanted. Unfortunately, it made aiming down the sights feel pretty static. I have now, however, managed to utilize the .anm files Stalker uses for camera animation and managed to apply them through code. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebslFxI8MXE&feature=youtu.be The animations can still be tweaked a bit, but this is a huge deal. Currently, there are two different animations being used. While standing still and aiming, there is a small amount of sway applied to your camera. If aiming AND moving, there is a second animation with much more sway. This is just the most basic thing I could think of for testing purposes, but I could easily expand this system to include more sway while you're injured or low on stamina, and even use the .anms for other stuff now that I know how to do it. Tell me what you think of the animations. Never made one before.
So much more stalker-like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKemIJ0G1C8
Someone on their trailer team likes their triphop
Wow, that's basically the Great Swamps. Super looking stuff.
Vostok's new game https://youtu.be/3yC3gkzWkVk
"STALKER-inspired Battle Royale FPS" Dead on arrival
It's sad to see a talented studio like Vostok waste their talents chasing popular genres. They fail to realize that these genres are saturated, so unless you can make a superior game it's monetarily dangerous to compete. This reminds me of another favorite studio of mine, Petroglyph, that went under trying to chase after the MOBA market. At best they will tap into their fanbase, which we all know is basically STALKER fans, so why not just give these fans what they really want and that's a STALKER inspired single-player first-person shooter; if it makes them a good amount of money then think about a sequel with some kind of multiplayer, if they really think it's that important.
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it could only get a publisher if it were a battle royal game.
So metro is pretty much Metro: STALKER 2 edition I'll take two please
You would think the publishers are smart enough to figure out that the market is oversaturated. On the other hand it's probably that the publishers don't really understand how the market works.
You'd think that, but every time theres a trend, theres always a million copycats trying to topple the big dog. It happened with MMOs, with CoD, with Mobas, with Minecraft, now with Battle Royal games. You'd think people would learn but I guess everyone wants to try and be the big dog themselves.
Vostok: Boss Key Edition
Vostok Games? Nope, staying far away. They've been riding the STALKER nostalgia train to hype up their projects. Has Survarium improved at all or is it still trash?
To be fair though, if you try to turn tail and run in case a situation goes south, you're more likely to have some lead added to your daily diet. I suppose a compromise would be if they would try to flee from mutants, because it's at least possible to get away from them unless you're very unfortunate.
Saddest part is that all what vostok really have to offer is advertise their games as: "made by few developers of Stalker"... Beside that, Survarium and Fear of Puppies dont really have anything to offer.
Remember when Survarium was first announced and we were all excited and optimistic?
When booted it up and saw it was a World of Tanks clone, but in first person I lost all hope.
Remember when you fired up Survarium and had to hold in your utter disgust before deinstalling the game?
Use to love Survarium. My eyes were opened after their attempt at PvE. Gosh what a mess.
I was in denial for about a year about the game "this is smart, they are balancing the pvp before trying to balance it in freeplay" "doing it one step at a time" etc. Turns out Vostok were just like Areal devs except they were in it for the long con
Get out of here S.T.A.L.K.E.R.! Someone better make a new thread.
