Not a train owned by the Reds, Artyom and a group of (ex) Rangers are fleeing Moscow on it. I've been considering buying a Stalker game for a while now, but I'm worried about the janky look and I'm not even sure which one to buy. Any help?
Don't worry, they're not nearly as janky as the jokes and anecdotes would have you believe. Sure they can be a bit buggy (some of them more than others) but the actual gameplay is extremely good. And if you're entirely unsure, just wait for a sale. If you're going to get one then Shadow of Chernobyl is definitely the way to go, but they're all worth picking up. Play them in release order if you do though because Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat have spoilers for Shadow of Chernobyl. Also it's worth noting that Clear Sky is widely considered the worst one of the bunch and is legitimately kinda janky, but when patched up it's worth playing still I'd say.
Yeah, people like to talk up the jankyness - it's become part of the game's mythos, but to, I think, an unfair degree. Shadow of Chernobyl shipped with a number of bugs, but there's been a dedicated team patching even the most elusive bugs out for the last 10 years and they've done a great job. Clear Sky does have a number of questionable design decisions, but Call of Pripyat itself is highly polished and generally stable.
Only reason I feel like Call of Pripyat is generally stable is because the A-life is generally dead :v:
Only reason I feel like Call of Pripyat is generally stable is because the A-life is generally dead :v:
In fairness it gets a bit better after you complete the missions for an area - the trouble is that by the time you do, there's little reason to go back for any length of time.
The STALKER games are the most excellent polished and bugfree games ever made. Made on better quality technology than the most rich Western gaming company, which translates to the game as they are the most high tech games ever made. Featuring 2200AD level graphics, and sounds effects and voiceacting so real you'll think you're in Chernobyl in person! Please, support developers such as myself by purchasing the game. t. sergei grigorovich [t]http://cs608621.vk.me/v608621683/80f7/e9MdZi-4pnU.jpg[/t]
Can we please not try to emulate the Todd meme.
What did he do specifically? All I know about him is that weird 300 hours in Cordon SoC obsession.
...
Shadow of Chernobyl shipped with a number of bugs, but there's been a dedicated team patching even the most elusive bugs out for the last 10 years and they've done a great job.
and he loves shitting on them every chance he gets.
Im so hyped for the new metro game. I guess they are going to include some references to the STALKER universe as 4A has guys who worked for the SHoC dev team, right? As a side question: Wasn't the atmosphere poisoned in the metro universe? Or that was around some places/Perhaps fallout is gone?
If I understand correctly in the related Metro novel (the third one, I think) there's a big reveal related to why this is. [sp]The authorities in Moscow lied to the survivors to make them stay in the metro tunnels but most of the outside world survived the war and thinks Moscow got wiped out.[/sp]
finally gotten started on the military guys in stalker

Those are great looking. It's a shame it can't really feel like the original Berill without textures the size of my pinky fingernail. :v: Try giving them armored shoulder pads and fatter, more prominent clips on the webbing? Flashlight on the helmet? Lacy jungle boots instead of smooth Ruskie jacks? Unless you're going for a more grounded, realistic look than the piles of strange gear of the OG Berill
i'm going for a new look, like i've been doing with all the other stuff speaking of which, have an early wip of the spetsnaz models i'm trying to base the spetsnaz duders on these guys [t]https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/187555235970023424/325426087498743809/eJwdyU0OhCAMQOG7sBdoC2K9DUGCJiJEOiszd5-f3cv3HvW6T7WqXaSP1ZjtGKndmx7S7liyLq2VM8d-DJ1aNVEkpr3mS4YBT4Ep.png[/t]
Stellar work, can't wait for when it's all done.
Yiiiissssss Superb as always cant wait to see them ingame
good to see you back to work Ninja!
Ninja, hit me up on Steam. I got Quixel Suite 2 at a nice price, so I might be able to spruce up the textures a bit with it's material editor. I also know of a guy who makes stellar bump maps who might be able to make them stand out even more (talking Frozen Zone quality for the NPC's)
;52368640']finally gotten started on the military guys in stalker
it'll never cease to amaze me how compatible stalker is with mods, and how far modding has brought this game jesus, makes me optimistic for the new Mount&Blade which apparently is opting for maximum mod ability by the way, i've found that most people who enjoy stalker also enjoy Mount&Blade so check it out if you haven't already
speaking of those spetsnaz duders

here's ingame shots of 'em
sometimes i wonder if the original dudes who worked on stalker a decade or more ago ever browse through the modding communities today and what they must be feeling, seeing such warm dedication after so many years to a product they have personally worked on for so long like i get that they probably don't really care much as it was sort of their job and shit back then, and all the legal shit that has happened with GSC back in the day probably tainted their hindsight as to what it was like working on it, i wonder if it was just a job for them and nothing more at the end of the day, or if it was at any time something much more than just a product meant to be sold off to a consumer you never really see any interaction by the original dev team, it's always the PR guys or the executives making all the interaction, i guess they're just anxious to be discussing the intricate ins-and-outs of the game series with fans and modding communities because of possible legal issues, or perhaps they're just keeping busy with new titles to have any spare time to be helping the modding community with anything, i dont know maybe they're lurking from time to time in threads like these and others, not bothering with accounts and showing up as (Guest)s at the bottom of a forum page, just keeping tabs on what the community is doing, who knows, it's been so many years without anything officially stalker-related, it could be that everyone who has worked on the game, from people who have continued on to work for 4A games, stayed for Cossacks, to people who have left the company altogether, simply moved on. but i bet stalker will always remain to many of the devs as their sort of magnum opus. it's a series that has endured the ultimate test of time, and sets itself apart with its originality and familiar charm. shit, now that i think about it, work on Shadow of Chernobyl began almost 20 fucking years ago.
Ninja. How about exoskeletons? Can't wait to finally see them
Ninja. How about exoskeletons? Can't wait to finally see them
not gonna lie, i'm probably gonna tackle them last, when i've got everything else set up
most of them work at 4A making Metro now bro
Yeap. But you know, like, seeing some of them dropping off some comments or stories about the game dev cycle would be very cool. I guess some of them must be taking part in AP forums or some other places but under a pseudonym.

There is a special 4A section, and they respond to a lot of posts. https://www.gameru.net/
The majority are working on Survarium over at Vostok Games. Which is a dead game and an even dead-er company.
There are still players, there are still updates. It is not dead - not yet.
The majority are working on Survarium over at Vostok Games. Which is a dead game and an even dead-er company.
most of the SoC dev team went to 4A after it was finished, but most of the CoP devs are indeed at Vostok now, I should have been more clear
The majority are working on Survarium over at Vostok Games. Which is a dead game and an even dead-er company.
Survarium's just about to get the first ingame proof of concept of PvE maps, so if anything I' say this is the point where it starts to actually get interesting.
Been a while since I looked at Survarium since I am still waiting on the PvE maps. The PvP gameplay was pretty solid last I saw it almost a year ago and on it's own is rather fun.
I think everyone's waiting on the PVE right now. Once that gets released you'll probably see the playercount jump up a lot.
That and once they fix the old and new gun fuck up of theirs.
That and once they fix the old and new gun fuck up of theirs.
They are fixing that now with 0.47, if it's fixed or just fixed remains to be seen. Gun behavior in survarium is solid, so whenever coop missions and freeplay rolls around it'll be really fun. Apparently they are working hard (hardly working?) on AI and flowpath systems at the moment.
