Is OGSE worth trying? Never played it, what's it like?
It's probably one of the most polished Russian mods for SoC out there. A lot of engine and scripting improvements, generally a pretty awesome experience. But it's still Russian and has some silly difficulty spikes at times, and a handful of weird search quests. Overall, recommended, especially if you have a beefy pc
What does OGSE do?
What does OGSE do?
Adds a lot of new (mostly missing stuff that should have been in the first place) stuff to Shadow of Chernobyl, like: new quests, new areas, vehicles, updated graphics, dynamic campfires, companion system and communication, separate launcher that allows you to tweak whatever game settings and even load saves directly without going to menu. OGSE just feels like overall more complete version of SoC, altho there are some things that are a bit weird (more specifically some questlines you can find). [editline]21st August 2017[/editline] Oh and some quests have consequences to other quests in OGSE, which may add or remove certain dialog options in quests. Many original questlines are also remade or have new ways to complete them. [editline]21st August 2017[/editline] Most importantly though, OGSE is one of the few stalker mods where I have actually managed to sneak succesfully in certain areas and it was great experience, even tho it was still quite difficult to do. PS: Theoretically in OGSE you could plant an anti-personnel mine next to some loot that other stalkers might want to create a convenient trap + distraction while you sneak.
OGSE is a fairly well polished overhaul of SoC. The main questline is mostly true to the original, with a lot of neat additions. There's a bunch of interesting and unique new side quests, although it was already pointed out that a few of them are weird and/or frustrating. What's really impressive is that a good chunk of them aren't just single quests, they're full quest lines, and they're actually done pretty well. They managed to get the AI to a pretty good level too, they're much smarter than vanilla but they generally don't act like supermen. Stealth is actually possible, for instance. The mod also boasts some welcome graphical improvements and optimization. In particular, some of the particle effects are really gorgeous. The 100 Rads Bar looks so much more convincing with cigarette smoke billowing throughout the room... The UI is beta-inspired, old mutants are back, there's vehicles, emissions, dynamic news system, some of the cut maps are back, there's item repair/modification, weapon attachments, new artifacts, new/changed anomalies, new gear, and a number of small but welcome additions, like a jukebox in the Bar that you can fill up with records you find around in the Zone. The encyclopedia has been expanded with entries to cover the things added to the game too. There's also more rumors, stories, lore, and fluff in general, either in PDA, books/ledgers, or through conversing with stalkers. OGSE has a lot of room for personalization, too. The latest version comes with a launcher that lets you enable/disable a lot of gameplay options and even quickload straight from the desktop. Overall, I'd really recommend OGSE if you're looking for a mod that expands SoC in a big way and gives it some new surprises without detracting from the storyline or getting too off the rails from the original game. Just be prepared for some frustrating moments.
So i've downloaded and installed OGSE and i'm getting the following crash, could any of you help?
XR_3DA.exe caused BREAKPOINT in module "D:\OGSE\Program Files (x86)\bin\xrCore_GSC.DLL" at 0023:007BCC85, xrDebug::backend()+165 byte(s)
This is the full install, patch 2.10 and the patch after that.
I had the same reaction. Attention to detail like that really makes the difference. I saw that and wished I knew Russian so I could read that dude's last words. Immersive as heck. [editline]21st August 2017[/editline] Side note, OGSE is the only mod/original I've ever played where the AI actually uses under barrel grenade launchers...
wished I knew Russian so I could read that dude's last words.
"Mother, forgive me"
He says he made most textures on his own, but I think I recognise more than a few textures which aren't his own creation. But other than that, very nice texture pack. Especially the bump maps are very well made.

I doubt he went out with a really good camera and took his own photos of bricks and grass. He doesn't necessarily say he made them from scratch just that they are "new", which could just mean they aren't ripped from Cromm's work like just about every other texture mod out there.
Sorry for digging that up. First of all, yes, in my collection of textures I have about 500-600 my own pictures(walls, doors, ground). But only few of them are used in CoCk Texture Pack. Rest is from collection that I gathered for years from internet from different sources. Point of this texture pack was to replace as many textures as possible WITH KEEPING SIMILAR STYLE OF ORIGINAL ONES. And that is damn hard. And because I do it for free, in my limited free time, I just decided to use images that just fit best to game, not spend time and money making my own images. Other thing is that those are not ready to use seamless textures, I actually had stitch/modify/merge them one after another and then create HiRes bump maps, so I think I have some right to say that I made them :] You can compare it to cooking, I got ingredients from shop and make a dish from it... I think cook should receive thanks for making it, not LIDL or Walmart that just sell ingredients :P Second thing is, yes, there are few textures from different mods, and few default textures with just new bumpmaps. There is just no point of changing something that already look good :] Last think, I created this pack for Call of Chernobyl, but I was actually aiming to create free to use texture pack that everyone could use in their mods for all stalker games. CoC have almost all textures used in SoC and CoP so it was just easier to test them(and I was just playing it in that time...). Sadly, right now I suspended all work on this texture pack, because lack of interest from players and moders. Moddb is not only place that I was looking for info and opinions about it, but for now version on moddb is archived. Hard to tell if I will start working on it again, but for now I decided to stop all work on it.
That's unfortunate. I really enjoyed the textures you put out. You, DonKnotts and Twister are great texture artist and I enjoy seeing all the stuff you put out. Honestly, your texture pack for CoC is one of the better overall texture packs out there. Don knows how to make sublime maps, too. But, he's always working on them and is (iirc) a pro. I wouldn't take down the mod, I'd keep it on the page but make sure to let everyone know development is seized. STALKER in general is like someone in here perfectly said "A graveyard to many great mods". Please don't bury yours along with those mods. That's just my humble request.
I remember OGSE went super crashing in one of the labs and stopped there but so far the whole experience was amazing. It always felt like something is going to happen in every corner and it had a scary atmosphere. Also I still have spooks about that toy.

Fucking thing was beyond creepy.
Does anyone have the translation files for Secret Trails 2/Autumn Aurora? I saw where Stalkerstein and Grunter-Hunter had one made, but all I find are dead depositfiles links. To my knowledge FOTOGRAF never had a translation, TKGP? If you ever get a chance I'd appreciate it.

I cant remember if there was anything else that you needed to download with it, but I'll upload what I have. Heres a link to it https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B27wPR_2oGtkdHM2aTBVNHJtVWM
it's the enemy health bar, not sure if it's an option exclusive to Lost Path

So I've been feeling like replaying the series with some overhaul mods, Call of Chernobyl looks like a good one, is it?
So I've been feeling like replaying the series with some overhaul mods, Call of Chernobyl looks like a good one, is it?
Call of Chernobyl isn't a mod that allows you to play through the series.
So I've been feeling like replaying the series with some overhaul mods, Call of Chernobyl looks like a good one, is it?
I posted something 10 minutes ago but Cloudflare ate it. CoC isn't an 'overhaul' mod per-se, it's actually a freeplay standalone game that incorporates maps from all 3 maps. It's actually quite a polished product, and there's tons of addons and other mods for it. I heavily recommend checking it out if you just want a good freeplay mod.
Ye, found out about that after reading a bit further. I'm interested in the story so I think I'll settle for Oblivion Lost 3.1 for SoC at least
Thanks Wulfram, and TKGP. Is there consensus on Serega-Lus repacks? It looks like a bit of a grey area legally, but no more so than stalkersoup.

I wouldn't use them anyways since I don't feel like downloading and archiving 4 times as many datas as I need to, but you do you.
My only criticism of Oblivion Lost so far (which is mostly related to self control, not the mod itself) is how effective the vehicles are as weapons, so far I've solved every mission and bandit encounter by running everything over :v:
Oh, THIS should be interesting. https://bitbucket.org/revo_lucas/call-of-chernobyl/commits/10f79410beb0263de16fd2eca0780682cb543fda

So after reading the praise OGSE had gotten, I had the urge to install it and replay some good ol' stalker. Innocently enough, thinking the starter village would be relatively the same; the first thing that happens is that I jump out of my seat in surprise because the entire village opened fire on me all at once since I hadn't completed the starter mission. This is gonna be good :v:
